I’m clothes shopping for my DD and have a question. What are these SD, SD10, SD13, SS16s I am seeing? Which one of these is the closest to DD3 M bust?
>>
>>21291887
>SD10, SD13, SS16
They're different sizes of Volks Super Dollfie dolls (hence the SD abbreviation). SD13 is the closest to DD3 M, just slightly larger so it's not a perfect fit.

>>
>>21292029
Neat, thank you! Is it slightly larger as in noticeably bagging in the way a Volks MSD outfit would not fit on an Unoa doll or just like larger as in you're too big for a small but too large for the medium and you're wearing a medium shirt? I hope that makes sense.
>>
>>21298025
More the latter. It depends on how tight fitting the clothing item is, if it's not tight fitting then it's not that noticeable.
>>

Why are they blonde? Is it the lighting? They have white hair in the game, or am I colorblind?
>>
>>21301909
>lighting
mix of fucked up the white balance and warm lighting
>>
>>21301969
There's plenty of platinum in that pic. It's not lights or white balance. They're definitely a very light blonde.
>>
>>21302077
The lighting is very warm and the hair reflects it more than the clothes. But judge for yourself

You can see how the light changes it. That being said, I think they picked a warmer white, but it's still white
>>
>>21302077
Now that i look back to the pre order shot, the wig are white/blond than in the game where it's meant to look like stainless steel.

Are DD heads not compatible with SD bodies? I mean, I know SDs are strung but maybe a DD could still be attached if they fit the neck size.
>>
>>21303446
They can be adapted, it's not hard but I'm sure you knew that. The right sized cone washer works. But then they'll find something else to complain about like the color not matching or not shaped exactly like the game rendering or some shit. I doubt anyone here even DIY or gets their hands dirty. They only buy shit to be one of the cool kids.

In the previous thread someone mentioned that the Dollho makers had gone bust and they're now dead, and indeed, everywhere I look they're no longer available. So what options are there now? Is there some other brand that stepped up to fill the gap? I tried looking, but I couldn't find anything in particular. yanata3 says he uses a certain onahole, but it's not actually made for dollfies so he must have modified it to fit with them, but it's also out of stock besides. Is finding something like that and modifying it myself the only option now?

I feel a bit bad that I left her in the box for the entire winter. Naming her Gin -- as in silver, not the drink. Still a bit surprised over how tall she is, but she fits on shelf beside my computer desk.

Also feel equally dumb for spending a good hour messing around with putting on the wig, I'll have to give it a brush out and clean up the stray strands.

got any info for an anon interested in the hobby? The link in the op is pretty unclear and outdated apparently.
>>
>>21320151
Just giving info about the most popular vinyl dolls because that's the best starter info I can give.
Volks Dollfie Dream is the big name in the biz and the most popular. Their best shit is hard to get if you can't go to Japan or are uncomfortable giving them your credit card info weeks/months in advance for something you may not be selected to win in the first place.
Azone Internatinoal was their only commercial competitor. They source parts from plastic doll maker Obitsu and recently started designing their own body shapes.
Smartdoll is the new kid on the block and is the brainchild of famed superweeb Danny Choo and initially aimed to beat Volks at what they do.

If you like dolls, buy one you like and play with it. Take pictures and share, or not. Don't worry about taking shitty pictures or getting pointless criticism, this is not a photography group. Sorry if you were expecting something mystic, they're dolls.

To buy one:
Volks Japan www.volks.co.jp ships internationally. They also have a branch in the USA volksusa.com but their prices are so jacked you'll end up paying about the same if you ordered from Japan.
Azone international (azone-int.jp) ironically isn't set up to ship internationally. Buy via proxy or an exporting retailer like amiami or hobbysearch.
Smart Doll (smartdoll.jp) ships internationally

That info might get you on the right track unless you were interested in other types of dolls like smaller ones or resin dolls. If your japanese travel/language skills are elevated we can even provide tips on seasonal DIY markets and shopping locally.
>>
>>21320151
What >>21320325 is all excellent. I would also like to mention that every 2 years, Volks hosts a doll event in California. This is one of the years and it'll be at the Anaheim Marriott.

It'll be a great place to see lots of different dolls (well, lots of different dolls from Volks but still) and you'll get a much better sense of where you'll want to go with the hobby after seeing the dolls in person. Any anons coming to Dolls Party?

Speaking of Miku, is she the only one that ever get re-released? Because in a few hours, Volks USA will make her and the Sakura version available once again. I bet Canadian customs are sure to hit. Making the overall cost of that 658$US doll even more expensive than the 80K yen ones from Mandarake.

But the Miku getting re-released is the Reboot version with the new improved body while all the Mandarake ones are sure to be the old versions.
Shipping cost to Canada from Japan or the USA will be around the same.

This make me want to buy her as soon as the order window open.
Anyone else going for her or the Sakura one?

I'm new to dolls and I want the miku dollfie. Is it safe to buy it now and resell it if I dont end up liking it? How is the market for it?
>>
>>21331301
as long as you keep her in good condition they hold their value pretty well, just don't make her look like this >>21326250 (and don't buy a bootleg lmao) and you would be able to sell her fairly close to her original price. Keep the boxing and all the packaging as well, it significantly contributes to the selling price of the doll even if it's worthless on it's own, and makes it easier to ship. And above all, only get her if you're sure she's the doll you want; if you're new I'd suggest taking a look at all the other DDs as well and see if you like another one more. Good luck if you do get her--hopefully you won't want to sell her haha

I was a bit in doubt when I posted >>21326301 . But then I refreshed the page like mad when the time came and once the BUY bouton appeared. I didn't hesitate a second. Now my order is 100% confirmed!

Sure, credit card, sure, Canadian customs, but fuck it, I'll get the most recent one with the improved body. I won't save any money overall compared to the 80K yen ones at Mandarake, but at least I'll get the best one. In case you're wondering, no custom fees were ever charged from all my Mandarake orders.

As I post this, I'm surprised normal Miku is sold out already. I thought the order page would be open until the deadline and they'd produce the number of units based on how many ordered. Look like the number of Mikus were indeed truly limited. Anyone have an idea of how many units were available for that release? Also, it seem that only Miku got re-released so far.
>>
>>21331985
Good to know about less customs I guess. Also, they're staggering the rereleases in stages; there were two SD girl rereleases and one DD rerelease this time. There'll be more later
>>
>>21331999
The no customs things however is only for Mandarake. They seem to be totally customs proof. However, the possibility for anything ordered from the USA to have no customs fees are pretty low. I'm pretty sure this here Canadian will pay more than 100$US in customs alone. I will see hot it will go in around 2 months.

Depend on the store. But I never ordered any media from Mandarake. Only toys and figures. So, no customs ever. Even for pic related!

Ebay, Amiami, HLJ, BBTS, all are sure shot customs bitches.
All my fingers are crossed so that Volks USA stuff go under the radar when the time come.

What do you mean by that?

But assuming you are used to collect anime figures and the like and you want to go to the next level, go for a complete fully licenced Dollfie Dream. A "character model". Pick your favorite one.

However, make sure you are REALLY passionate about that character because at those prices you better be committed.

Have a spoon-fed link for the easiest way to get one for somewhat relatively good prices, used or new:

What's the difference between the bodies of DD standard version III and the f3? I'm only seeing the busts maybe have a more natural sag on f3.
>>
>>21338148
Joints can be tightened/loosened and go a little further. Also, the wrists rotate after the joint now.
>>
>>21338148
the busts are the same, it's just the lighting. The difference is the internal frame (the skeleton of the doll), on which the f3 is a new frame with supposedly improved posing and flexibility. I don't have one to compare in person though, haha. The f3 is also supposed to be more adjustable, so you can more easily tighten/loosen parts of the frame if it's getting floppy or too hard/stiff. Ankles look a little different now too
>>
>>21338165
>>21338168
Thanks. Has not even any jap done a photo comparison of the poseablity? Searching for both review and レビュー for the f3 comes with nothing but regular images.

>>
>>21338494
ehhh sort of, you can google the vinyl manufacturing process to see how that's done, and the faceups are machine painted (using masks and sprays, I believe). They're limited quantity but they do produce 500-1000+ (conservative guess) of each doll depending on expected demand/preorder status/production capability. They just shipped only 39 to the US office for the hell of it I guess
>>

That's it. The JP store sold hundreds and had some in physical stores for sale as well. The 39 was just something to appease us gaijins.

Considering the current social and cultural drama that's occurring with the USA, that's pretty generous of them to send anything at all.

>That's it. The JP store sold hundreds and had some in physical stores for sale as well. The 39 was just something to appease us gaijins.

I firmly believe Volksusa doesn't get volume discounts from Volks jp. It's almost as if Volksusa has to buy them at full price to stock their store.
>>
>>21338590
Or maybe you know, pay the shipping and customs to get stock to their US store.
>>
>>21338590
Tax plays a part in it I know. One of my JP friends said his Miku was 66k, which is only $600 compared to the $660 on the USA store, but then he had to pay about 6k in taxes.
>>
>>21338590
Shipping is expensive and volks usa does not move enough merchandise to really get any good discount rates like bigger companies do.
>>
Volks USA is a joke. If you want to return or exchange anything, you have to pay for the shipping to return it. Then pay for the shipping again if you want them to ship you a replacement. The only good thing about them is that they ship things fast to you, then you could resell on ebay for double the price once you buy out volks USA inventory.
>>
>>21338604
That's why 1TB PS4's cost less in the US than Japan, right?

>>21338679
The Miku After Event prices are on par. 71k/72k is in the neighborhood of $660. Which further suggests that any "stock" VolksUSA needs for their shelves like bodies and base models seem to be obtained at retail and not wholesale.
>>
>>21338838
>then you could resell on ebay for double the price once you buy out volks USA inventory.
We have to go deeper. What's your ebay store? I need to stock my store.

Before buying a 1000$ doll, do you actually love dolls? I'd suggest to start at the 1/6 scale and start with "cheap" 10K/15K yen dolls. If you're here, it mean you love anime and such, so the Azone 1/6 dolls would make a nice starting point.

There's a fuckton of official creepy BJDs if you're fine with not having an anime doll, otherwise it shouldn't be hard to do a custom creepy DD face up. Do things like adding a dark eyeshadow under her eyes, use smaller sanpaku eyeballs or large deadfish eyeballs, dark lips and/or a wider drawn mouth, and paint extra monster features.

What's dollfag life like in Western countries? I've shopped for clothes and accessories in Tokyo before, but do you otherwise just have to lurk like yahoo auctions and get pegged by proxies?
>>
>>21349605
Imagine:
A world without at least a dozen market events held every year throughout your country.
A world devoid of boutique shops.
A world saturated with goods made for other types of dolls except your own.
A world where you're perpetually picking through scraps and used goods online, constantly worried about the dollars you'll be out if it doesn't fit.

It's amazing anyone picks up the hobby in the west at all.
>>
>>21349605
>do you otherwise just have to lurk like yahoo auctions and get pegged by proxies

Pretty much. There's a ton of cute shit we'll never get. There are other bjd websites that sell plenty of clothes and wigs that fit DDs but the variety is never what you'd get in japan. And of course there's no sense of community which is the biggest bummer. The couple doll conventions we get are all geared towards resin bjds so showing up with anime dolls makes you a weirdo.
>>
>>21349605
I mean I live in the Pacific Northwest, we have two decent size bjd/Dollfie shows here (I’m lucky enough to live three miles from where one is held) and several general doll shows through the area as well. There’s also a lot of Japanese immigrant and descent people living here, so there’s a high amount of import shops. I can go to a local Kinokuniya to pick up doll books and Rement.
>>
>>21349807
The challenge makes it fun!
>>
>>21349807
>A world saturated with goods made for other types of dolls except your own.
This is true for a lot of resin BJDs but absolutely not for Dollfie Dream.

>A world without at least a dozen market events held every year throughout your country.
This actually does suck, but we do have a handful of nice doll events that happen to have market rooms. I wish we had a shopping focused event though.

>>21349916
>The couple doll conventions we get are all geared towards resin bjds so showing up with anime dolls makes you a weirdo.
Have you guys ever been to these things? That's not the case at all. There's not an event ratio of anime to resin dolls, but you won't even be close to the only one there and I've found that a lot of resin collectors love DDs but just might not consider it a doll they'd actually collect themselves.

>>21350028
Kinokuniya has been a godsend for me. I don't have to wait two weeks for last year's hot issue of Dollybird anymore. The new stuff is right there.
>>
>>21351676
Where do you go to find these doll events?
>>
>>21351819
Thats's a legit question, more people would about these events if they were advertised well
>>
>>21351676
>This is true for a lot of resin BJDs but absolutely not for Dollfie Dream.
please elaborate. Short of getting on a plane or sucking a proxy's dick all I could find was clothes for "dollfie" that *might* fit dollfie dream.
>>
>>21351892
just use yaj
>>
>>21352124
Well that really applies to a conversation pertaining to the western market doesn’t it.
>>
>>21351892
Where are you looking if you don't mind me asking? Additionally, Dollfie does fit Dollfie Dream (I think it's SD and SD13 that are most compatible). While we're on the topic of acronyms, DD is going to be a lot better than Dollfie Dream for finding clothing. A helpful tip I learned from collecting resin dolls is that you should find popular dolls with similar measurements to your doll to use as search terms. You might also try looking for Feeple 60 but keep in mind that there is about a 2cm difference between their waist sizes (Feeple 60 being the larger one here).

Etsy is where I stick to for new items. If you ever have questions on how the item you're looking at fits a DD, just ask the seller for measurements. I use Instagram for secondhand items (#bjdsale). I don't really use Instagram for specific items the way I would use Etsy but it's nice to just scroll through and see what's for sale. Sometimes you can find nice things for a good price because the seller is just trying to downsize/make enough money for rent before the end of the month. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Fashion is my passion.
>>
>>21351819
Sorry anon! I forgot to reply to you while replying to the other anon. I use Den of Angels for this information mostly. There's a whole subforum just for conventions. I'm also pretty active on Facebook and Instagram so if I see multiple people talking about a doll show, I'll look more into it. When you actually Google doll shows, it's kind of grandma doll shows only, so I wouldn't really bother with just searching for doll shows near you. PNW BJD Expo is one show I went to this year. It was very fun and happens yearly. I am also going to Doll Party in LA, which happens every other year. There are also some anime conventions that have doll programming blocks. I believe Anime North is one of those and that'll be at the end of the month. Off the top of my head, I know Resin Rose and Austin BJDC are also going to be later this year. I think those are both in August.
>>
>>21352902
> I use Den of Angels
Oh, so secret club stuff. It's no wonder BJD's in the west is so difficult.
>>
>>21352981
I also agree that it is a fucking retarded system and most people are moving away from DoA (forums in general really). The forum itself is honestly dead outside of people trying to fill their post count for marketplace access, the conventions subforum, and of course the marketplace which was the most over-hyped thing EVER by the way. Everything worth seeing on the marketplace is being cross posted to Facebook and Instagram. I have a lot to say about Den of Angels but I won't shit the thread up with it.

I've been wanting to put together a doll Discord for a while since that's way smoother than a forum but I feel like those always devolve into a bunch of underaged kids shitting the place up with stupid questions. I will gladly be here to post information about upcoming conventions if you need it though. The conventions I mentioned in my previous post are the big ones coming up.

I think it's also the lack of any kind of bridge on the nose and how the mouth sort of protrudes a bit (by this I mean that it's level with the nose and cheeks, sort of on a plane that's perpendicular to the floor instead of slanting back a bit? not sure if that makes sense). She looks like she's a cute doll with an invisible thumb pressing down on the bridge of her nose and squishing the whole face in

I agree completely since while I'm not interested in DDS and DD boys as shotas at all and the curves aren't much of an issue for me, MDD bodies' chub doesn't work well for making boys and being unable to sand those tiny breasts off doesn't help much either.
Having male DD base bodies is the absolute dream but its probably going to be quite a while before we see DDSB and DDB getting another shot at standardization, which could easily fail as it did before due to custom DD boys seeming to be more popular in the west and Korea/China than Japan. Though, I'm having hopes of seeing an official male MDD sometime soon because of the recent DDB character dolls at least.
It makes me wonder whatever happened to the new Obitsu 45cm male body since its been a year since the prototype was revealed with seemingly no new information on it.

If you want more detailed tutorials then it's the same thing as bjd faceup tutorials, which are more common in searches, you just won't be applying fake eyelashes or as much lipstick for anime style. You can use watercolor/acrylic paint, chalk pastels, or watercolor pencils. No markers, oil pastels or oil paints.

The main thing is you'll need to learn how to draw anime faces. If all you know is [black splotches for top eyelashes/eyebrows/mouth] then your anime faceup will range from looking like shit to a factory-printed faceup at best. Go for softer looks. Like >>21368294 says you can try again by removing mistakes with doll makeup remover, isopropyl alcohol, paint thinner.
>>
>>21368294
this. lower your expectations. there's no tutorial that will teach you how to paint your dream doll. and honestly I'm opposed to tutorials for custom work. most people who need these kind of tutorials have no imagination and you end up with a bunch of hacks all making the same thing.

Her head sculpt is very nice to be used for mature dolls, I love how it actually has a nose and not some barely existent bump. But it doesn't look similar enough to Sheryl despite them clearly making an attempt, like with the thicker eyebrows and the irises not touching the bottom lid. Should be a longer face and smaller eyes.

Ya’ll are busy saying Smart Doll sculpts looking poorly sculpted when Volks is out here making dolls that look like they have downs and misshapen eyes.

DoA is awful, DollDreaming or whatever their new name is has been quiet, but a lot less cliquey and elitist. A doll discord or irc would be good imo.

I like SmD, but Danny Choo is an insufferable manchild in a hobby full of them, self included. Still gonna give him money, but I'm not happy about it. He's been banning people from his store for questioning him on the social medias and it's honestly pretty pathetic.

Pic unrelated, out with my girls today.
