we need a redo on this thread its already overalso lmao @ matt
>>20994687There's a lot of people who never use RTK and reach fluency. And the gap between when I finished RTK and when I learned vocab for each kanji in RTK was so long that I had forgotten most of RTK's keywords so it's basically as if I hadn't done it. And I learned words fine.
do you think the tears well up in matt's eyes when he reads djt and sees people making fun of him
why would he cry about djt he doesnt even read comments about myself
if ur gonna make a shittier op than me can u at least put a minute of effort into it

>>20994867>>20994881Well I hate making new OPs because I don't wanna get a number wrong or something. I only do it because you faggots take too long. 2 minutes without DJT and I start hyperventilating.
that aint a minute of effort either
>>20994881i think itscool were really to talk about erromango island again in tyool 2019
>>20994855But at least you can write characters from memory. Who cares about the keywords, that's not the improtant bit.
>>20994904>But at least you can write characters from memory.I can't write most anymore because I've forgotten. And I was OK with forgetting because writing is a worthless skill that I could learn later more easily.
matt not knowing what a labrador retriever is makes me think hes just retarded in all areas of life
i bet matt sama's accent is WAY better than anyone's in this thread
>>20994930what if in his mind he was doing it on purpose to try and make himself seem more japanese but then the huge lol is that japanese ppl know what labs are too but he wouldnt know cuz he spent all his japan time in the toilet lmfao

a certain someone just tweeted that he's having a hard time with bopomofo and is hoping childrens songs will help
>Kana wasn't that bad, because every single sound was familiar. But Bopomofo....omg. I'm having a hard time with it. There are so many sounds that sound foreign to my ears. I'm about to search for some kids resources and learn through songs along with my deck.

You could have prevented the public humiliation of Tae Kim and the gradual obsolescence of his guide. You could have prevented it. But you didn't. You twiddled your thumbs and cheered him on, hoping everything would resolve itself. But you should know better. A single person can't fight back against a circlejerk of eternal beginners alone. You could have prevented the death and obsolescence of DJT and the end of the filtering-out and fixing-in of sane learning materials. You could have prevented it. But you didn't. In the name of fairness and neutrality, you filled the guide with garbage, triggered hundreds of hours of arguments about RTK, redistributed terrible anki decks and kanji books made by people with negative amounts of understanding of Japanese, and exposed it all to the wider internet, attracting political spam so bad the thread got banned from /a/. But you should know better. Neutrality attracts conflict, of all kinds, intellectual, ideological, and civil. You could have prevented the rise of Matt and MIA and the degradation of input-based learning methods. You could have prevented it. But you didn't. You pointed and laughed, saying, that's hilarious, nobody's going to buy that. But you should know better. Underage weebs and mentally unwell young adults don't have such clear judgment as you.All we've got left is George, our nico nico douga memes, and our porn. Lots, and lots, and lots, of porn.
>>20995393Once a thread is sufficiently shit nobody wants to seriously engage with it anymore.
Was gonna mention Steve but he's just having his brain rot away due to old age, nothing special there.
what r u talking about the guide is perfect look at this guide
>>20995397That doesn't have anything to do with my post. DJT was cozy on /a/ before the OP site got too "good" and the thread started attracting people from other boards and sites.

>>20995393Who cares? Any general thread is doomed to go to shit sooner or later (assuming it wasn't already shit to begin with). The "solution" is obviously to make non-general, non-template threads about the Japanese language. But that would be too hard, wouldn't it?

>>20995488If you want to make a thread that functions as an entirely separate entity from the board it's on, go ahead, but don't be surprised when the board's users feel alienated from you while outsiders flock like flies.
>>20995515If you actually looked at this site, you'd understand that it's your own fault, not the fault of people posting about getting closer to the media the board is for.
what's a more specific aspect of japanese learning that a thread could be made about??
>>20995531I don't even know what you're talking about. This thread has been filled with people who don't care about anime, VNs etc since the /a/ days, and it's because generals are cancer.
this yojijukugo goes out to carbin初志貫徹
Yeah I'm glad this thread's residents don't liveblog their anime and VNs and manga and light novels and games that would be really annoying. That doesn't mean they're not consuming them or that they don't drop recommendations on other people.Alternatively: Oh no, the thread isn't filled from top to bottom with bad image memes made by people who watched three episodes of some show and spent twenty hours shitposting about it in a template thread with its name in the subject field, it must not have anyone who cares about actually consuming media in it.I know you've felt this way for a super god damn long time, but get real. The reason that 4chan is full of paranoid boogeymanning, eceleb trash, and ideological spam is bad moderation. It doesn't matter what thread it is. If it's interesting, bad posters will come. You have to deal with them. Self moderation has never worked. And it's never going to work. No matter how much you think it should. Don't pin the management's failures and willful ignorance on the attendees.
On that note, I'm going to go devour a delicious volume of エロマンガ先生, topped with mayonaise and apple cider vinegar. Farewell.

self-moderation would be 100% possible if we gave OPs the same level of control over their threads that they have over on 2chan but that'll never happen
as long as i get to be the op
>>20995615>needed to note down unknown grammar despite not understanding what I'm reading.why do so many of u post about doing this dumb shit
>>20995393>You could have prevented the death and obsolescence of DJTThis happened as soon as DJT was moved to /jp/. That alone cut new blood coming in from /a/, which before you get board-elitist about, means far less new learners and less people learning Japanese. Activity on this thread got cut in half, more than half. Maybe it's about 1/4th as active as it used to be if that. Anyway, instead of a huge flow of people coming in and learning Japanese, it's just a couple of /jp/ rejects. Hell, 50% of the posts in this thread are Jamal sucking his own dick. DJT is less a place for new learners nowadays and more a general thread for regulars to have fun in. Barely anyone's actually learning Japanese like they used to.
>>20995613Not all of them, though.

how about this y’all look up a word1. if you know the readings and the meaning seems easy to remember/logical based on the kanji, just reread it in the sentence and continue2. if the kanji or reading is new to you, or the meaning is not intuitive, add to SRS deck3. study that deck for two weeks then throw it away and hope you see it in context again soon enough before forgetting

I just read the first couple pages of re zero today. When I started 2 years ago my reason was to read the ln in original japanese. I have made such amazing progress and this is a big hit.
>>20996759what’s so bad about third person?
>>20996771its horrible. Why even read a book if it is just describing scenarios? books are for being able to experience a story from a perspective impossible in visual mediums. >>20998214Take a step back and reevaluate. You can take a few days or a week off and think about your learning process holistically. What were your original motivations to start studying and are they still what motivates you? Where are you now compared to where you thought you'd be in terms of aptitude? What aspects of your learning approach are inhibiting you? >>20998436i make 3000 euros a month trading csgo skins so im not too concerned
so i wanna go into a bit more detail of what it feels like to get "high" off meditation. 耳を澄ませfirst a disclaimer, if you go into it "trying to get high" you're gonna fuck it up cause your attention will be on the desire/craving to "get high" rather than the actual concentration and awareness necessary to do soanyway the actual practice of meditation involves concentrating on the breath, confronting whatever your mind poops out as you try to do so (theres a LOT of poop built up in there guys... years worth of constipation aka stuffed-down emotions), clearing that poop through nonjudgmental objective awareness, then returning focus to the breath. you do this over and over.when your awareness becomes free enough of constipated mind-poop (like anxiety, boredom, distraction, random thoughts, anger, etc) you can access intense clarity and joy that legit feels better than or at LEAST as good as orgasms..... its a delightful tingling sensation you can feel spreading from the head/heart area, throughout the entire bodysometimes i just sit there soaking it in like a 10+ minute orgasm... i just did that earlier and i feel great. a sense of joy and lightness continued even after i got up.
What does that have to do with japanese?
>>20998498>high>meditationnot reading this stupid shit.

>>20998657imagine spending all this time studying japanese in order to watch the second season of blue fucking exorcist
>>20998606How long have you been studying? Congrats
Nobody learns japanese to watch anime, dweeb, because literally 100% of them are translated.
hypothesis: there is a limit to how much you can "take in" a day. people only think reading 8 hours a day is better than reading 4 hours a day because they're smart enough to absorb all the information they take in during that 8 hours. there's a selection bias. in reality if every dekinai attempting to learn japanese started reading 8 hours a day they'd be too stupid to get more than 2 hours' worth of learning from it.
>>20998675That's why I'm studying it. I'm not interested in eroge, manga or VNs.
>>20998674Hard to tell, I stopped and paused a lot, so very inconsistent ... I learnt the basics about three years ago, but then didn't do anything for a year or so. So in total maybe about two years, but not as intense as I'm doing right now with regular anki.I didn't take any of the JLPT, so I can't tell where I'm on that. Maybe high N4/low N3? I'm not too sure.
>>20998662lmao no. It's just one of my favs and what I decided to pick as the first one to watch since I'm catching on to the manga.Better than eroge anyway.
>>20998606>with jp subswithout them you'd understand 25% or less
>>20998697I don't believe you. What's the point? That's like learning English to read Harry Potter.
>>20998657nice! thats a good idea. and i don't even know what miasma means in english lmaolike 4 years ago i watched that anime with english subs, trying to understand the japanese in the background and could hardly understand anything. i might try again now but raw and see how far i've come lol you inspired me to go back to it, it was a really good anime
>>20998685meditation can most likely increase that limit, whatever it is for anyone. less mental junk/mental noise = more mental resources for japanese
>>20998685Yes if you assume those hours are spent consuming material which is challenging to you. Then I'd argue its even not feasible to for 4 hours at one thing, at least not without breaking it up into 1 or 2 hour intervals. However once your base level understanding is reasonably good you can easily do 6+ hours a day. Of course you won't learn that much, but at worst its good reinforcement.Overall the importance of reinforcement is bigger than people seem to give it credit for. Everyone seems focused on learning new things and mining new words. I treat reading and watching stuff as the most enjoyable way to practice what I already know. Learning new things along the way is a bonus, but also way more exhausting.
>>20998715>What's the point? Some of my older hobbies had run their course and I liked the idea of watching raw anime so I figure why not. Learning a language isn't some giant odyssey which requires profound motivation or dozens of practical applications. I just do it to pass the time.
>>20998719English isn't my mothertongue and I never looked that word up either, but it means like some kind of spores / gas that was believed to cause sicknesses.
>>20998725your motivations are valid. do whatever you want>>20998724>Overall the importance of reinforcement is bigger than people seem to give it credit for. agreed. i strongly believe that our input in any given day should consist of materials at different levels of difficulty. i personally try to have one anime i'm watching raw thats super easy, and one thats medium/hard difficulty that i watch with subs. same for listening -- a hardish book with lots of markings and farming, and a super easy book i can breeze through. that kind of alternation seems to mix things up, eliminate burnout and provide lots of reinforcement.
>>20998711Well, maybe. But everyone's got to start somewhere. And I'd rather do things I like with an aid instead of sitting over something boring which is closer to my level.
>last night, too busy with the happening to watch anime
>>20998685It's not a limit, it's diminishing returns. And the useful amount of input increases the longer you've been at it. If you've been reading and listening to significant amounts of Japanese every single day for two years, then every hour you spend on Japanese counts, unless you start depriving yourself of sleep to add more hours of Japanese (don't do this). On the other hand, if you're a literal absolute beginner who barely recognizes the kana and maybe knows like twenty words, then 30 minutes of reading will probably push them beyond their limit, and nothing they do for the next several hours will stick.

what is the best vn of all time frens? looking for something good; difficulty does not matter as I have been at it for a while, but i would prefer to be fairly comfy.
is that jamal's vn chart really trustworthy or is it just a joke with many hard stuff?
it's not that hard but yeah bro
>>21000330im not very deep into my eroge ventures but its the best chart ive seen
>>21000330Literally the best chart ive ever seen. He talks big shit but he knows what's up.
So is the /jp/ anon guide, the true guide?
>>21000442>learn basic grammar and then start readingVery lukewarm imo this pic isnt meme heavy enough

would persona 3 or 4 be too difficult for an n4 dekinai like me?
>>21000093why would you even attempt to do this without rtk. just do the stories method faggot stop trying to take shortcuts that don't work.to learn stroke order:>do rtk>while doing rtk put everything into jisho.org with the #kanji function and after a few hundred you will be able to write pretty much anything with correct stroke order learning proper stroke order is a drop in the bucket
>>21000507just play 1 of them if u wanna play it to play and not to be critical of japanese text

Is anyone else here an alcoholic? Is it better to try to do my reps and read while drunk or try to catch up while hungover?
>>21000591Thanks anon.>>21000628I only ever played 沙耶の唄 until now
>>21000638I don't know about alcohol, but I rep better while wearing my sister clothes.
>>21000093>What's a good book that makes it harder to learn the stroke order...stopped reading there
>>21000653That's interesting anon, I'll keep that in mind.

>>21000948boring shit will burn you out and make you stop reading but when someones lookin for easy shit instead of compelling shit your warnings prob wont reach themonly after theyve made the decision on their own to read a compelling eroge will they learn

get this fucking addon for your anki it will change your life. ANKI SPEED FOCUS MODE https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1046608507
I know djt will prevail but this is really satsubatsu if you think about it
>>21001029i used a similar addon for 2.0 but couldn't find one for 2.1 when i moved to it. then i realized i could roughly tell when 3-5 seconds pass without using an extension so they're pointless.
>>21001049i dont see any reason to move to 2.1 it seems like it just makes a lot of stuff not workbut yeah having to think about how much time is passing is different than it happening automatically, there isn't really that same racing against the clock feeling. for example like the kanji game on kotobaweb if you've ever played it. its a lot less fun/addictive with no time limit set
lolling at the idea of someone writing romaji text in elaborate cursive
if you're a girl you don't belong here. get out.
if you're a girl please come to brasil baby please i treat you so right i give you kiss
>>21000998I'm feeling things
So... it comes to this.
入口より、中のほうが高くなっているI didn't know this meant "the inside is higher than the entrance" until I threw it into google translate.
>>21001109i recommend getting them all out of the way within the next 2 minutes. if you take 3 months to get through them then that's just too much wasted time.
>>21001109just remember the point of doing reps is doing them not to "get them done"
>>21001110That's like a textbook sentence.
>>21001134What through me off was 中のほう because it's the first time I've encountered it. Now I realize it just referred to the "side" of the "in" but I had forgotten that ほう can mean that.
>>21000948that is why you start with yotsubato and other easy manga then go straight to mid tier eroge.
>>21001152thanks, just recently learned it :)
>>21001150It's just the <X>より<Y>のほうが<adjective> set phrase.
>>21001168No idea what that is. Been like 3 months since I read tae kim though.
i finally made my anki just the way i like it and im fuckin stoked- found out how to bulk-import words from my phone's dictionary app in like 5 minutes- downloaded addon that auto-inserts sanseido definitions- downloaded speed race focus mode add-on that auto-fails me if i don't pass the card in 10 seconds, greatly increasing review and learning efficiencysmooth sailing from here guys
>>21001174It's time to re-read it, that's basic of the basics.
how do I not mix up 糧 and 糠
>>21001150if you read more you'll get used to that usage of の方 soon. its everywhere
>>21001188they're not the same kanji and don't look similar
>>21001189Problem is I've been reading a good bit and this might be the first time I've seen the construction.
This guy is just roleplaying
I think I'll just hand write these two kanjis a hundred times. I feel this might help.
how do I not mix up 人 and 鬱
>>21001217I'm not. It might be that I've encountered it a bunch but I was able to figure it out in the moment and didn't get tripped up until this time for some reason. Unless you meant the kanji guy.
>>21001181all you need to do now is delete anki. I remember when i used to use anki and do all these weird things, after quitting june last year i was so euphoric and am still super happy with reading and watching epic nipponese.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52gvscii7nk
>>21001233Do you constantly look up every word when reading tho? Like if someone were to use the reading method and not use anki at all. How could you possibly remember what kanji is what, when you see a couple hundred before seeing the same one again in such a short time
>>21001225the one on the right is wolverine with a shovel in a forest with a tin can that makes you sad or something
>>21001245I read for like an hour today and looked up like 4 words. I was reading 素晴らしき日々 dont know if that is considered hard but i find it quite easy.
>>21001233anki is definitely not necessary but i still think it's a good tool for "perfecting" your skills with less common wordsthe most important thing is that you keep reading
>>21001233lmao weird thingshonestly im really enjoying it right now because the balance i have between reading/listening is great. 3 hours of reading and listening to every 20 minutes of anki.and nowadays literally every time i read or watch anime for >10 minutes, i encounter a word i recently learned via anki. feels greatso as long as it keeps paying off ima keep doing it. ill likely take a break from it when i stop seeing real life gains
>>21001261I view anki like cigarettes, there are useful aspects of it like how with smoking you get breaks and get to make friends while smoking, but it gives you cancer. anki is similar in how it can introduce structure and goals to a person who is not very motivated or interested in japanese, but the mentalities it gets you in and the time it wastes means that i can not think of it as anything but harmful for japanese. Honestly I never felt like anki was helpful at all back when i used it, like i would see a word a lot in anki but i would associate it with the deck as you are aware of intervals and what cards are in your deck so when i saw the word naturally i would not remember it, plus i just simply was miserable using anki. I would put off everything for hours every day because i needed to do anki first thing and it would waste and ruin so much time.
>I view anki like cigarettesStopped reading right there lol
anki aint all bad if u dont overdose but the people who most highly praise it are people like >>21001245 who have not yet discovered that their brain is capable of learning through natural exposure
>>21001307sounds like you just got obsessive and didn't know how to balance it adequately with input. thats not really a problem with the tool but your mentality around it. all anki is supposed to do is tag new bits of information (words, grammar structures) between exposures until they're healthy enough to survive on their own. my process is input --> anki --> back to more input (which i can then get through more of faster because i know more). it all reinforces eachother. i don't use premade decks and haven't since i began. comparing anki to cigs is like calling water poison because you can die if you drink 10 gallons at once. well, yeah.. but in moderation its great for you.
>承るHm. Don't like that.
>>21001382well i am better than you so suck my cock.
reminder to occasionally check translation you can find online for manga you're reading as a good motivator as to why you should learn japanese and to have a few good laughs
ankis fine if u know japaneseif u dont its not
how to use anki: do it when you feel like doing it and want to take a break from reading how not to use anki: slogging through hundreds of core 10k reviews every day
>>21001421if you want to take a break from reading you don't actually want to learn japanese.>>21001412opening wide in preparation i see.
>>21001428>if you don't want to do the same thing all day you don't actually want to learn japanesewhat are you doing here shouldn't you be reading
>>21001436i don't take breaks, i just call it a day then watch some anime, Living your life to learn japanese is pretty pathetic.
>>21001446i don't know what your point is anymore
>>21001436i dont want to take a break from reading either but im here for the same reason that other anon smokes
