No it just makes horizontal photos horizontal because unlike windows or many photo viewers it strips the rotational exif data, displaying your file as it actually is. Open the original in a basic app like Paint and you'll see.

If you're willing to go a bit out of the way between the two cities, Kusatsu and Manza are technically 'between' the two, otherwise there's Kaga onsen but think it's a bit average.

If you want something more along the tokaido between the two, Hakone or something around the Fuji five lakes is probably the answer though.

But far out they sure made them look exactly like it was going to ruin someones day.

Also re-looking at these pics has made me realise what a square resolution my camera takes photos at. Any reason not to change it to one thats 16:9 for better computer/phone viewing?
>>
>>20935218

Bombs and drop tanks are the same shape for a reason, aerodynamics.

As for your camera, you should shoot in whatever the native aspect ration of your camera is, that way you use the full sensor. You can crop it later if you want a different aspect ratio, and you would have had the same effect as switching the mode on camera. If you need help framing, there are different focus screens available for DSLRs that will have frame lines, or if you are shooting mirrorless it should be a menu option somewhere.
>>
>>20935955
Well now that you say that it seems obvious, haha.

Ok i was wondering how that would work with the aspect ratio and if it would then just be "losing" some pixels.
The struggle to frame that photo is because the helicopter was flying kinda high, i think i was at like 20x optical zoom to get that pic, so just following it overhead was difficult. But thats not a bad idea, i will see if the camera has that option as it will help for some things.
I was using one of those "bridge" cameras, that are sort of considered between a point and shoot and a DSLR, dont have the money for a DSLR right now (or moreso the good lenses to go with one). Plus i like the relative simpleness and stock having like 40x optical zoom with no need to switch lenses and things.

I don't have much experience with different countries but Japan is pretty bad in regards to that kind of shit.
The road rules are basically if you are past the line when the light turns red you can still go, so they push the limits as hard as they can, often crossing the line after the light has already turned red.
And it's not just common, it's just about every time the lights change.

in Takayama? It's fairly small town, so you can really explore everywhere within two or three days. If you haven't booked somewhere yet I recommend Ryoukan Takayama (first result on booking.com), it's really comfy. There is the "old town" there which is really nice, lots of old buildings and shops to enjoy. There are some free museums which have quite a lot of old drawings and armour in them. I would really recommend climbing the mountains however (they are really easy to climb, it's like a walking trail). On top of one has the ruins of an old castle, though there's not much to see, and on the other is a really comfy cafe (the owner speaks English well, but it's a little bit expensive). I can't remember when, but there is also a festival which happens in Takayama. And of course there is the main shrine there.

This photo is in the mountain which had Takayama Castle on top of it. It's so pretty in the winter.

I'll only be there for one day and one night unfortunately, but I'll try to see what I can fit into the time I have. Thanks for the help
>>
How come Japan is so aesthetic? even the shitty parts look comfy.
>>

In most countries a degenerated area would be a sign of crime and poverty but in Japan it's most often just a result of the ageing and shrinking population

I think they have a really developed aesthetic sense. Not saying "japan is superior" or anything because they could be lacking in lots of ther things, but they just take a lot of care about how things look and feel, more than almost anyone else. You can see that in videogame covers, house decoration, food presentation or anything visual.

I regret not making time to go see Osaka castle when I was in Japan last. It may not be an original, but I love how well they've made not just the castle but the moats, walls, and gates look like how the originals did historically.
>>
>>21004016
Because you're not there. Or are only temporarily.
>>
>>21005557

Osaka Castle itself is actually a pretty awesome museum.

If you want to see a castle to see an original one, I’d say go to Himeji, it was just refurbished and is a cool one.
>>
>>21006789
I've been to quite a few originals actually, I just missed out on Osaka. I did Himeji and Hikone on my first trip, Matsumoto and Hirosaki on my second trip, and did Hikone again on my third trip (was basically tour guide for a friend that had never been to Japan). Kind of wish I'd done Osaka castle instead, but I really like Hikone.

>>21004016
People photograph the interesting and novel parts of Japan
Poke around for more than a few hours and you'll see the boring parts of Japan
>>
>>21006789
>>21006809
If you go to Himeji spend less time climbing the keep and more time touring the castle grounds and ancillary buildings. The keep is nice but boring and they make you wear leather sandals that constantly flop off your feet when climbing the stairs

Tokyo can be quite nice in February.
>>
>>21015726
Jan/Feb is perfect for wintersports and beautiful snowy scenery in Hokkaido and the like if that's your thing, and the snow festival/setsubun/some other stuff.

Southern regions are dead vegetation and a bit ugly but on the flip side far less Chink tour groups ruining the popular sites.

Going in a month for the first time, would it be worth picking up a used camera for like 250 on the first day or should I just stick with my phone? Would like to take pics like in this thread but im guessing there is a learning curve.

Get the camera, that country is worth it. While most of the 300$+ smartphones can make a decent photos, the quality of the picture heavily depends on the light. Forget about nice photos after 6pm. I made a mistake to go there only with my smartphone camera

Dunno where you are, but cameras are cheaper in the US than Japan.

Aso, get something with at least an APS-C sized sensor, an old rebel or NEX would be a good bet.
