how do i get into type design bros? like what software specifically?
>>
>>358224
You can try basic lettering in Illustrator, but for actually making a typeface you need Fontforge or Glyphs. The software's definitely the easiest part though.
>>
>>358226
is it possible to crack fontlab?
>>
>>358223
pretty cool man. can you recommend any tutorial on getting to do stuff like this?
>>
>>358241
Probably, never tried

>>358242
You can't really learn this stuff through tutorials, since it's minimally about technical skill.

Read The Elements of Typographic Style

Understand the lineage of writing systems, the history of type production techniques, and how they both influence contemporary forms

Analyse and deconstruct every font you see

Get some calligraphy pens, brush pens, tag markers and try to sketch as often as possible

Get moderately good at bezier curves

Trust your eyes, not your brains

Good luck anon

I haven't worked on anything serious but I made this adaptation of Schwabacher typefaces based on text on 8-bit consoles.

Reference image.
Also, the two symbols at the end are old currency symbols for Mark and Pfennig respectively.

quite cool. interested to see more letters in the EMO style

are you working on a decades-old macbook with a 480p display my friend? if so, i salute you. consider a more consistent stroke weight

this is cool. would like to see it in use

thanks, mostly just for myself and experimentation. I wanted to try out reverse contrast in a marker tag hand.

really like the cuts and imperfections here, would use

>>358889 #
this one is really good, do you have any background in calligraphy?

>>359655 #
very cute. patiently waiting for bitmap fonts to be cool again

>>359854 #
nice rhythm and almost-serif-stress

>>359869 #
probably Glyphs

some new weights and styles here. not sure any more if monospace was a good idea desu
>>
>>358223
made this a few years ago
how do you turn these into usable fonts?

With type design software and a lot of patience.mThe weights here are really inconsistent and the O is wonky as fuck, but those Fs are very nice.

do I retain full rights if I use it?
Thanks for the feedback man, one last "?"
Do you think serif on the letter G over-hangs enough, or would you bring it out more?
>>
>>359929
this is what it looks like now
I think the G looks more balanced like the serif hanging like this oddly enough

of course, just like if you used Illustrator or InDesign for a logo or a book.
>>359931
This one is definitely better. Try looking at it upside down and preferably in black on white. Your colours have too much saturation and not enough lightness contrast, it can really screw with the perception.

>>359908
Glyphs or fontforge (free) or robofont or fontlab are all good to make your letters into a useable font.
These pieces of software will make it a bit easier to draw smoother curves as well. How are you currently going about drawing the letters? Your lines could be smoother.

>>359928
bubbly, nice, did you make them?

>>359943
liking this a lot but the 'i' feels strange, could you try a different tittel?
>>
>>359955
looking good!

>liking this a lot but the 'i' feels strange, could you try a different tittel?
I'll have to try making it shorter or placing it higher.
>>
>>359955
believe it or not, I'm doing everything on adobe illustrator
thx, I'll check those out
>>359942
hey, I liked your criticism on G
can I get your opinion on some of my small caps?
I suppose I have no choice but make a's tail a bit less eccentric?
>>
>>359943
the straight horizontal lines for the 'i' and 'f' stick out, especially given that you don't use horizontal straight lines for the top part of the 'l' or the second stroke of the 't'.
