I see all these OnePlus 7 Pro clones and copies coming out in the coming weeks but none of them have the 90hz display, what the fuck is even the point?

What do you mean by cutting corners? They're not the ones excluding a micro SD card slot, headphone jacks, 4000 mAh batteries and even IR blasters. Even their mid range devices have been progressing in every regard throughout the years. On the other hand most flagships are excluding that. Not to worry about software - they're as developer friendly as OnePlus.

What the fuck kind of an explanation is that? And it's not like anyone could see that without having the phone in hand, although that's not happening outside of the US. You're also getting just about average battery life with the latest Snapdragon SoC and a 4000 mAh battery.

Since when do Android UI animations run at more than 60 fps? This is kind of a drastic change and as far as I'm aware it hasn't been announced yet or at all. Not sure what you'll be achieving with a 90 Hz refresh rate display when the UI animations are not programmed to go over 60 fps.

Looking for a new smartphone
Budget is ~$250
With T-Mobile, but I'm assuming that doesn't matter if the phone is unlocked
Priority is
Good camera (at least 10MP, I don't know if that's considered good now a days)
headphone jack

not so high priority, but would be nice
expandable storage
ability to rice it out ( I never ended up doing this with my OPO, but having the option was nice)

If it's relevant, I currently am using a OP One, got it way back before launch when there was that whole code invite scheme thing. Solid phone, but after trying everything software related and a new sim card, I keep loosing or not getting signal. It's gotta be a a hardware issue, and the cost to repair would be about half of what my budget for a new phone is, so might as well get a new phone.
I probably just missed a phone call for a new job interview and thus lost the job, so a new phone is now highest on my financial priorities lol

My sister needs a new phone and I think she wants the Pixel 3a because she values long update life, good battery and so on.
Is there any non-shit brand I can get her instead?
I see the S9 is the same price and has a much better processor but she is hesitant to buy an old phone as she's always ever gotten old phones.

Is there anything good in the Pixel 3a pricerange that has:
-NFC
-Fingerprint sensor
-Good standby battery life
-Snappy (responsive either by being powerful or software optimization)
-Doesn't require custom roms to be good

>>
>>70974129

The oneplus 7 is fast as fuck, but if the K20 is just as if not faster for half the price of the pro? It would make it a great buy. It’s also confirmed to be getting an Indian release so global version will be available.
>>
>>70974061
Does a score like that really matter to you? I have a smartphone with a SD 650 and I honestly can't complain about its speed.
>>
>>70974146

It’s hardware so yes you will. But 5 devices are backwards compatible so they will work just not with the benefits. Signal quality is better though going from a 4.2 device to 5 earphones.
>>
>>70974166
The K20 is competing with the non Pro though. Unless it has the same fancy features of the Pro, it's not competing with it at any level outside of the usual SoC/RAM specs.

>>
>>70974174

Only in the sense of a comparison. If a £300-400 phone can compete with a £1000 phone in benchmarks then it’s certainly a factor to take in. It’s not the be all and end all but really makes you think.

Of course the scores will be very similar. They have the same processor, same RAM, same GPU. It literally doesn't mean SHIT. Yes. I hated Bluetooth because of connectivity problems mostly more than quality but 5 improves both those things. I’d only update your just for it if your having major issues with cut off or you want more range. Sound quality isn’t going to get a massive boost really I feel.

Not sure what you're taking about here, but I would like to touch on:
>The cheaper phone will still lack the extra stuff that makes the more expensive phone worth its price so it's not a competition at all
Your more expensive OnePlus lacks a micro SD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, IP rating, wireless charging, good battery life even with the latest SoC and 4000 mAh battery because of the 90 Hz refresh rate display, IR blaster etc.
So, what exactly is it worth without all that?

Will android tablets ever catch up to the ipad pro's? There difference between them is night and day.
>>
>>70974750
This is why the 7 Pro looks good to me, I finally get a high refresh screen and all the issues with battery life are really exaggerated considering the screen. In 90hz mode it's only about 20 minutes worse than an S10+
>>
>>70974772

doubt it, because most of the companies producing them on the android side don't seem to invest much into development anymore, which is fine imo, i'm not really sure about tablet purchase habits in the west but i'm a slav and here most people buy a tablet for their kids (ipad 6 for example) to play games on, or older people being gifted some tablet to read news on from their children

Smartphone's primary function for me is music. I use the same headphones on my PC and phone.
If I need to quickly go somewhere I just unplug the headphones, grab my phone and go. If I need to search for a fucking dongle every time as well then I'm sure to miss my bus/train/plane.
Also, what if I lose the dongle while traveling and there are no electronic stores nearby?
Dongles are a shit alternative to 3,5 mm jack.
Bluetooth is shit generally.

See you'd be right if the competition of Chink phones coming out had a good display.

Also something tells me the 7 Pro will be the best optimized out of the bunch, just slapping hardware in and hoping it works together in phones doesn't usually work out for great performance on every front.
>>

>See you'd be right if the competition of Chink phones coming out had a good display.

So you do admit it's a fringe case? Alright, fair enough, but for everyone else outside of the US - they just can't see it in person to know what kind of a difference it makes. Nor can most people see it on video really, at least not in 90 Hz.

Back of the phone is the worst possible position. Absolutely retarded.
So that leaves the sides or the front and the sides are usually too thin for a scanner.

That is true, they have been "hacked" by making a 3D printout of the finger and in theory optical ones could be fooled by a photo of it, but I haven't heard of any cases of that. Arguably in such scenarios you'll probably have bigger worries than that.
The true redpill is that they bring more problems than advantages: they're slower than classic scanners and lack a tactile component so you need to rely on muscle memory to hit the scanning area. Their only two advantages are cool sci-fi looks and being the only way to mount a front sensor on a bezelles device.

There really are no usable custom ROMs for the S9/Note 9 after all this time, so, you're stuck with whatever data your Samsung Experience or whatever the fuck they're calling it now may be transmitting. We know that it has "accidentally" sent photos from your gallery to your contacts randomly in the past.

>size, display
last phone was 4.6" so this one is a lot to handle one handed but UI helps (gestures, one-handed mode, menus scrolling down more)
displays is great, last phone was amoled as well so I didn't want to downgrade, gestures over nav-bar to avoid potential burn-in.

>battery
again not a heavy user and it's brand new but seems to hold up well, with light use I end up with about 40-50% at the end of the day, I only charge up to 80-90%
>misc
a lot of samsung bloat, they try and get you to sign into their account everywhere and I had to suppress a few notifications but it's pretty easy to do and then just forget about it, watch out for stuff in the initial phone set-up as well
speaker isn't good if that's your thing
built-in call recording is a nice touch
>on-screen fingerprint
this is post-patch where they improved it, I mostly do ok with it, the major issues it has is with weird positions like the tip of the finger
if you hit it smack in the middle it's always a match and the unlock is fast enough for me (not as fast as others I've seen with different sensor types)
if you absolutely need to unlock with a fingerprint 100% of the time as fast as possible without even glancing at your phone don't it though

To be devil's advocate, the tests aren't equal in the slightest. Zach drops the phones on flat concrete and that guy dropped the OP on pebble-imbued one. You can see where they punctured the glass because of the smaller contact surface. However you can see the marks align with the part of the screen that is the most exposed because of the curve, so there is definitely something to Samsung using a smaller curve and Gorilla glass 6 this year, but I guess the people at OnePlus didn't get the memo. Also the fuck is with the entire frame bending upon that second to last drop, this is the first time I see something like that, granted I don't really enjoy such videos so I haven't seen many.

i'm also very clumsy and don't trust myself with a flagship phone which is like an entire week or 2 week's salary
>>
>>70976644
Shieeet, bro. That'd make the OnePlus 7 Pro the smoothest android phone to date
>>
>>70979246
>i have a job i just use the money i save by buying xiaomi shit into bills and better food
here you go folks. Xiaomi - the phone for you if can't afford food
>>
galaxy s10+ or oneplus 7 pro or wait for note 10
and why?
>>
>>70979278
Samsungs are good out of the box, but have shit updates.

all others might as well be xiaomi quality.

Xiaomis at least get updates and lineage.
>>
Why does nobody talk about the Xperia 1? it seems like the best phone out there, albeit a bit overpriced.
>>
Just bought s10+ works like a charm.

Also the factory protective foil put in the screes is fat repellent, so i use it until it starts getting off on its own since it protects and its free.

So I have a Moto X4 that I absolutely love. It's one of my favorite phones ever. But it's reaching two years of faithful service, and I'm beginning to think about getting a new phone. I live in USA, if that helps. I'm looking for something as close as possible to the x4, maybe with a bigger battery/CPU/RAM, but not much take else. Form factor is big for me, so I'm hoping for something much the same size.

Pixel 3a
>>
>>70979544
unironically this.

I have the XL and can whole heartedly recommend it based on the battery life alone. idk if the regular one compares, haven't used it.

Asus Zenfone 6 launch stream is starting in a few minutes:

>announced an age ago
>still isn't out yet
>gigahuge phone from a company mostly referenced in these threads in regards to their old compact flagships
Ignoring my personal massive list of complaints about the device there really isn't any reason for it to be brought up here. Rather, why would anyone talk about the Xperia 1?
>>
>>70979278
cope because i saved $700 while having the same spec'd phone as you :)
>>
>>70979647
seems to be the best layout/aspect ratio. Sony has the best Android skin IMO. It Doesnt make any of the dumb compromises of all the overly talked about flagships.4k display is a dumb gimmick, but whatever. Seems to have good cameras. Honestly, I would get it, if it didnt cost $300 more than the OP7 pro.

If only iOS was usable in a tablet
>>
>>70979544
>>70979564
I thought about it, but no expandable storage is almost a deal breaker. Is it really worth it? I'm on Fi, so if I get one I get $100 in free credit
>>
>>70979654
Pretty sure Xiaomi cuts corners on everything but the SoC
>>
>>70974772
ARM tablets seemed irrelevant, once intel got competent enough low powered chips that you can now get full blown windows tablets (some of them can run linux to before some fag screams at me). The only reason would be like a small tablet, which I still use my shield tablet for travelling, but honestly phablets are cutting into that market as well. Phones are basically small tablets, and large tablets can now run full blown deskto OSes.
>>
ZENFONE 6 ?
>>
>>70979708
Who the hell cares about expandable storage in 2019?
>>
>>70979766
me.
>>
>>70979708
absolutely worth it.

>no expandable storage
yeah it sucks but you can always get a USB OTG flash drive or a MicroSD reader
>>
>not even 12GB RAM
wtf is Assus doing
>>
>>70979090
What specifically is wrong? Their mid range devices are among the top performers in battery life tests, they also don't lack a micro SD card slot, a headphone jacks and an IR blaster. Displays have been getting progressively better as well (you can see professional tests on Notebookcheck.net).
>>
I want the note10
When is it going to be cheap
>>
>>70979642
why.. he.. is.. talking.. so.. slowly.. ?..

I have 32 gigs on my pixel and being an animal and downloading a ton of pictures for years and all my apps only take 20 gigs, what do people do on their phones where they need that much space?
>>
>>70976713

Pixel 3a as it will get updates more and has a better camera.
>>
>>70978365
I don't, it's a phone.
6 to 8 difference maybe but 8 to 12 I can't imagine being that noticeable if the OS isn't shit.

Can someone TL:DR this for me? I'm out and can't watch the stream

in the need of a new phone, any advice?
>150-250€
>headphone jack
>lineageOS support
>I don't really give too much of a damn about the rest of the specs

was pretty disappointed by my last phone (redmi note 4), did not even last 2 years before falling appart.
>>
>>70979642
OK, he's convinced me. The flip camera is not retarded.
>>
>>70980128
>lineageOS support
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Moto X4, Sony XA2, Pocophone
>>
Wait so if the OP7P comes out tomorrow, do I have to buy it from their website to buy it or would Best Buy or some shit also sell an unlocked version of the phone?
>>
>>70980191
if you're in the US you can only get it through T-Mobile or oneplus.com.
>>
>>70979642
>>70980151
Too bad about the rear mounted fingerprint, though.

I mean I use T-Mobile but I don't want a locked phone, guess I got to buy it online.
I just didn't want to wait kek

Also yeah US here.
>>
R.I.P.
Oneplus 7 pro. Best phone May 14th to may 16th 2019. Almost made it until it's launch before getting dethroned.
>>70980233
I prefer that though.
>>
>>70980488
T-Mobile lets you unlock it (both SIM and bootloader) as long as you have paid it off fully
>>
I would pay $200 more for the new Zenphone if it had a QHD edge to edge OLED and a 3x optical. Would literally become my perfect phone.
>>
>>70980563
I seriously don't see the appeal of this phone. It costs quite a bit and has a camera gimmick. The Mi 9 seems a better option.
>>
>>70981167
bezelles snapdragon 855 device with headphone jack, microsd card slot, capacitive fingerprint scanner and a huge battery for a compelling price
