I suppose this is technology related.

Why shouldn't I put sausages in the toaster? They'll still cook, right?

Did I kill my microSD card, /g/?

>struggling to copy over file from S8 to laptop over USB
>while connected, try just copying it over to the SD card on the phone
>meanwhile navigate on laptop to phone SD card (before it finishes, it's a large file)
>after around 10 seconds, transfer just stops
>forget to close file manager before disconnecting USB cable (not sure if that made any difference)
>SD card no longer recognized on phone
>open and close tray a few times without luck
>try rebooting phone without luck
>try putting microSD card in adapter and connect to laptop
>'fdisk - l'
>I don't see it
Had a bunch of music and backup of phone, so I didn't really lose anything too important. Still.

'dmesg' shows the following:
nmc0: card never left busy state
nmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card

Anyway, wat do? Can I save it?

>>

>They'll still cook, right?
Yes, they will cook. However, cooking meat drips fat. If you don't clean the thing religiously (in a way toasters are not designed to be cleaned), over time if you keep doing this the fat will build up and eventually you put a piece of toast in there and that bitch is gonna set on fire.
I didn't put sausages in my own toaster, but the situation was close enough that I can assure you this is the outcome. Why the fuck do you want to put sausages in a toaster anyway?

My laptop camera has crapped out on me. I want to try to use my android phone as a web camera.

How do I connect an android phone to my windows 10 PC and use it as a web camera?

I'm thinking USB/Bluetooth and some sort of program? But which one...?

> IP streaming camera
Shit quality, also lag and having to do more workarounds to actually use it for anything. I'd rather just plug the phone in via USB or use bluetooth to connect it.

No idea if it will actually work, but first thing that came up when I googled about it. Seems to match your problem description. Also might be an advertisement for that shit that they want you to download, I dunno.
>>
>>70973229
Hmmm... I have tried three programs now with no luck. Iriun, DroidCam and IPCam

I get picture but no sound. My computer is capable of sound. Using the default camera app on my phone to record video allows sound but no sound is being broadcast. So weird.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction anyway.

Sometimes my computer doesn't detect either my external hard drive or my phone when I plug my phone in. Happens on both linux and windows. It also sometimes won't power my microphone if i try to fuck around with what's plugged in via usb and what isn't. Does that mean I need a new PSU?

It's a bug with FoolFuuka on Chromium-based browsers that has only been fixed on 4plebs so far, especially since nobody has had contact with the fireden admin in some time.

I think probably because piercing ears is considered a cultural norm, whereas cock piercing isn't really widespread like that. Also, most people consider it somewhat odd for males to pierce their ears. Are you really going to get your cock pierced? Hot.

Am I too sensitive if I had to leave work and go home early because a customer called me a nigger? I know it's just words but I thought it was really hurtful, and I felt so humiliated since everyone could hear them call me that right out in the open, also my manager and co-workers heard and they didn't say anything to them. I feel like somebody should have stood up for me or even just said something... Legit thinking of quitting this job since it's not the first time something like this has happened.
>>
>>70975127
Shut up, nigger.

Sorry, couldn't help it.

Is that the real reason you want to quit though, or are you perhaps just looking for one?
>>
>>70975127

You're not being too sensitive, and within the workplace this is even worse. The word has a long history of being used to humiliate and denigrate black people. I can't say that it's the best decision to leave the job - that really depends on whether you can get other work, but I don't think you're too sensitive, and depending on where you live, you might be able to complain about it. I know that in Australia, if someone did that to you and you have witnesses, you'd get leave, probably offered counseling, etc. If the person who used the term was a co-worker, they'd certainly be disciplined, and maybe even terminated. If an employer failed to act on your complaint, you'd even have a civil case against them for making work impossible for you. Sounds like you're American though, so...
>>
>>70975127
talk to HR, if your work environment has one
or complain to the closest thing you have to HR, your boss if you need to

I'd say you are being too sensitive, but that's not a reason not to complain if you feel uncomfortable or distressed by this encounter

Is my SSD haunted? It won't let me boot on any computer I have. I tried it in a Thinkpad R400 and I got stuck at the splash screen, tried it in a MacBook and nothing happens at boot at all. I tried to start my main PC with it connected via USB and it doesn't boot. Eventually my PC recognised it and I could see that the filesystem was unknown, probably because it was corrupted. But I can't mount it, so I can't format it on my PC.
Does anyone know why it is doing this? Normally with a dead drive the computer will still boot and/or give an error message.

>>
>>70975703
Have you considered not using Windows?
>>
>>70975703

There's really no way to ever know for sure. Generally it's assumed that a clean, non-pirated copy of Windows 10 would be clean, so then the issue is making sure you don't install any dodgy programs, and even then there's a small chance - CCleaner was generally considered very safe, but even they recently had an issue with code being inserted into some versions. Just keep track of what programs you install, make sure you download them from legit sources, etc. Use a decent adblock and try to avoid highly suspicious pages. NEVER accept executables or programs from people without knowing what they are.
>>
>>70975780
Sadly, windows 10 is pre-installed on this and i don't know shit about installing and uninstalling operating systems
>>
>>70975801
You make a bootable medium, usually a flash drive or DVD, and you select that medium in the BIOS. It really is very simple.
>>
>>70975815
Well, what would you recommend anon(s)?
personally for a OS I'd like something with a UI clean as windows 10 as I've gotten use to it.
>>
>>70975883
Probably MX Linux. I think that is generally considered to be the new best for novice users.

I client of mine is running a pretty big Wordpress website, I'd like to set-up a local version of that WP on my laptop but it has tons of files to download (mostly uploads) and I feel like classic FTP transfer is way underpowered for that.

Getting WP website from online to local is always a huge pain in the ass: downloading all the files, exporting/importing the database, making sure nothing fucks up during the import of the db, modify the DB to work on localhost... Is there a good process/tool out there to simply get a local version of a WP website?

Also: what's a good practice to backup such big websites? Should I just run a full backup every few days (including the huge uploads directory)?
>>

>NEVER accept executables or programs from people without knowing what they are
While you're correct, how to stop webm from executing code?
>>
Is Android just a Linux distribution with a custom desktop environment ?
Does it use X or another windows manager ?
>>
>>70975994
A webm can't execute code, it's just a data file which is read by another program, such as your web browser.
It could be possible that a vulnerability in your browser allows the webm to execute some arbitrary instructions, but that's rather unlikely.
>>
>>70975267
Linux ?
On Ubuntu, there was something about modifying /etc/mime.types so that your browser is recognised as able to play flash files.

>>
>>70976084
No, not in the same way e.g. the Nokia N900 was.
The HAL layer on Android provides a "Graphics" interface upon which apps (everything on Android is an app, including the System UI and your launcher) can draw using 2D and OpenGL ES APIs in either Java or native code, which then get composited (in hardware, since Android 4.0). It's the rough equivalent of Linux/DRM and a Wayland compositor on a GNU/Linux desktop.

So, It just tried showing a friend this >>70962101, and windows explorer basically shit the bed. It worked fine earlier (>>70970299), so I don't know what's different now.
I was able to bring up the task manager, and command prompt from that (which is why I can still use the computer). I tried running it again, and like explorer.exe, the command prompt window is also frozen and unkillable through the task manager too.
Snipping tool works fine until it tries to save, where it hangs until I try to kill it (and then miraculously starts working again). To take a screenshot, I had to locate and start gimp, and paste in the screenshot there (fortunately the print screen key works fine).

What do? Ultimately, I can just save what's open and restart the computer, but anyone have ideas on how to recover without restart?

So, for about a week or something like that any time i open a YouTube video in Firefox it no longer automatically starts playback. I have to manually click play on the video itself.

This is unrelated to the "auto play suggested videos" function and it makes no difference if I turn this on or off.

Anyone have any idea why this would occur? It's starting to get annoying to have to click on every single video to start it.

It works perfectly fine in Chrome.

Can any audiophiles explain this to me? I use foobar and I noticed some of my albums, the sound is really really low. Actually I don't think its just foobar. Like certain albums I've downloaded play at a really low volume, the quality is fine, its just plays really low. I usually keep my system volume at around 24-30% when listening to music but certain albums I have, I need to crank it up to like 40+% which is pretty jarring because I have to increase and decrease the volume every time I change tracks if it involves that album. Oh jesus. You should have done that years ago. I don't even touch pre sp1 ISOs now. You could try the updates in https://pastebin.com/quC0gz4j

And see if they get you going, although you really should make the jump to 10. It's going to be an XP style wasteland soon.
>>
>>70981136
No it's fine. Only things to consider are having whatever operating systems which regularly write to the filesystems on each partition having trim / unmap enabled for unused blocks. The way trim works it doesn't matter where on the drive the unused blocks are or what partitions they're on so having two regularly trimmed partitions won't work any better or worse than just having one big regularly trimmed partition.
Other thing is SLC cache on MLC / TLC / QLC drives. You might find one of your partitions becomes slower if you regularly use the other one because the drive caches stuff within that partition more. You probably won't notice this though since it's not really any different than what happens anyway when you regularly access different files within one partition. Might make booting the other operating system slower if you don't regularly boot that one.
Reading your post again, I've just realized you're talking about one Windows install with two partitions so you don't need to worry about any of the caching stuff / slower booting because you're not booting different OSes which only access their respective partitions. Also you'd probably never end up with trim not running if you always have both partitions mounted in Windows. In this case, why do you want to make a separate partition if you're only running one operating system? It will just make it easier for your filesystems to become fragmented and harder for them to allocate space compared to one large filesystem.

TL;DR I want to learn Python, but I'm afraid of where to start.

I'm majoring in finance, but now I feel like I'm making a mistake with this field and would want to switch to some programming jobs. I don't have much experience in programming, I tried both Python and R at one point but I never got past the basics. I'm now at a job where I dealt with technical support, basically relaying what went to shit on the customer side to the developers and had some python and json scripts sent to me for various work purposes, which I had to edit on a daily basis. One of the devs asked me if I ever considered going into programming since he was surprised at how I had a knack for pointing out where the errors occurred while we did the debugging and that he felt like I could pick it quickly. Honestly I've always been around computers but programming always seemed like a big leap so I never went into it.

My question is, because I'm in totally different field, can I still catch up to all the stuff taught in more technical universities? Because I'm worried if I go just in Python alone I'll be missing out on all the basics that I need to understand prior to learning any specific language. If I do this I want to do it properly and not end up like a code monkey or something

Is this thing ripping all the information from my phone and beaming it to the Chinese Communist Party?

But Huami (American/NZ) is exclusively partnered with Xuami (Chinese) for their distribution. I don't know if that's relevant.

Honestly, I'm of the opinion that America will legislate its way out of its privacy nightmare like with tainted evidence. Yeah, it exists and it's influencing public opinion, but I can't go to jail for it and I've long since accepted I'll never be publicly-liked enough to be president or w/e.

PFX's exported from one pc report a wrong password on another.
I have two windows pc's where it works properly, and two where it reports a wrong password.
I have been searching for a solution two days now. Has anyone worked with this or maybe has any idea what might be causing the problem?

If I have a fullscreen game up running at 60fps, but my desktop is set to run at 30fps, what framerate will my windows run at while the game is focused? I've observed that the system does switch back and forth between 30 and 60 fps when I tab in and out of the game, and also that the windows don't seem to get rendered at 720p (the game's resolution) after I alt-tab back the first time, since they don't get all smushed together like they do the first time I alt-tab out. So should I assume they're running at 30fps or 60 while it's focused?

it's because of your monitor's refresh rate, if you don't wanna see the cursor then you should either get a crt since they have got higher refresh rates than lcds and are cheap, or get a 144hz or higher lcd, but that shit costs a fuck ton

About 70% of the time when I turn my PC on it goes to a screen that says "preparing to configure windows" then "configuring windows update", then a % number slowly goes up before stopping and saying "failure configuring windows, restarting" and then restarting. It does this whole process about two or three times before booting normally. I have no idea what's causing it and it's driving me insane because it takes what should be 30 seconds to boot into 5-10 minutes.
Windows 7, can post any other specs if needed. I have updates off currently but have had them on in the past and have tried turning them off/on and it makes no difference.

My Windows machine refuses to connect over ethernet. Router's fine, other devices work fine. Latest motherboard drivers, too. Disabled IPv6 everywhere.

afaik CentOS is the community supported version and RHEL is the enterprise version.

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/27323/is-centos-exactly-the-same-as-rhel

Not to be rude at all but this is a question you could have easily googled. Just searching 'CentOS vs RHEL' brings up a bunch of pages detailing the differences.

I will assume you're on windows. I would first try just to get a bootable live usb of some linux distro (ubuntu for example) and see if your ethernet works booting that. Then you'd know if it was an issue in windows or not. If that doesn't work either I'd say RMA the mobo or buy a network card. This might not solve your problem but it's a start.

I have a movie I want to watch, but whenever I load it with mpv, the video is hopelessly corrupted. I'd just assume I got a bad torrent, but just to test things I loaded it in VLC, and it works fine on that program. What could be the cause of this? I'd like to keep using mpv of course, I'm not going back to VLC if I don't have to, but I don't know how to fix this issue.

Anyone here uses streamlink?

It allows you to record streams through the command line, it has a built in retry option, but that only works until the first stream starts broadcasting, any subsequent ones won't be recorded. Is there any way I can automate it so as soon as the stream goes down it starts to attempt to record a new one, including modifying the filename by adding a number at the end?

Well, the hard part is figuring out what you did wrong, so you don't immediately do it again. Pirating is a likely cause,or downloading a bunch of programs you don't have a good reason to trust. The easy part is the clean install.

One normal shutdown wangblows uses fast shutdown (caches some stuff in .sys files to boot up faster on start ) but restart reload everything again on start.
Reason why some programs ask for a restart not "shutdown and start"

You have 3840W to work with, so 3760W for a computer and two monitors. You're fine, the computer would be the big user there, and that's like 1000, maybe 1500W.

That's what I want to know. I get torrents from piratebay a bit often, that might be it, although I only download from top users. At least this answers why my computer has been really slow recently.

How can I backup all my files without an external hd? Will I have to buy one? From what I've seen a 1TB one would cost me more than 1k bucks around here.
And I need to find out the root of the problem first, there's no use in backing up corrupted files. Maybe this is when I'll finally make the jump to linux and not only use it on VMs.

This process makes me anxious because I'm an utter brainlet btw.

>I get torrents from piratebay
Media files? No problem. EXEs? Fuck no. 100% no. You can't trust software when you don't know it's author and that it hasn't been tampered with.

If your internet is hella dope you can upload them to the cloud, but I prefer to just have a second drive. If you care at all about your shit you should have two copies already. All drives die eventually. Plus there's a million other things that can go wrong, and you don't sound like the most tender caretaker either.

> a 1TB one would cost me more than 1k bucks around here
Ameribucks? Christ, I'm glad I don't live where you live.

>there's no use in backing up corrupted files
Your files aren't corrupted, you just have some shit infecting your OS. You can the copied files once you've reinstalled your OS, but the big thing is just not running or installing programs you don't trust.
