ordered a poco f1 for 284 jewros feels decent manwhat to install on it other than google camera and what not when it arrives?!
Anyone know a good phone I could get? Currently have a Samsung S5 but honestly not a big fan of it. Gonna get a new one on my birthday but not sure what to get. Don't want an iPhone or Samsung AT ALL because I already have a samsung and iPhone is too mainstreams
>>69749145If you're keen on using the stock rom, install a web browser, music and video players of your preference as the ones in MIUI are really bad. The rest of the stock apps are decent to great. I'd still flash a custom rom on it, though, even if you want to use MIUI flashing Xiaomi.eu makes the whole experience much better than staying on stock.>>69749167Considering your opinion on Samsung, Oneplus 6 or 6T might be exactly the thing you're looking for. If you want something more exotic, look into Mi Mix models.

>U.S>tmobile, unlocked phone preferred>unlimited budget but i like to spend as little as possible>screen size less than 6 inchesI've had my blackberry keyone for so long that the phone market actually looks different now. What brands have emerged with phones worth looking at?
how useless are micro sd cards in recent android versions like 8.1 and 9? can data be shared between different apps? for example if i download a movie with firefox and choose the micro sd as the destination, can the movie file be seen by other apps, like a media player?i've read that apps can only access specifically designated directories on a per-app basis so that android can clean up the external storage when you remove an app: https://source.android.com/devices/storage/traditionali wanted to buy a 256 GB memexza micro sd to pair with my new phone but if it's going to be useless then it's not worth it
>>69751742I want this phone so bad but they just don't release the global version. there's also rumors about it being delayed and going straight to the note 7 pro
are there any good custom roms for the Mi 8 SE?
>>69751795Remember I'm talking about "Redmi 7" and not "Redmi Note 7".The plain Redmi phones are smaller than the Redmi Note phones, and have slightly worse specs all around, and cheaper.I'm hoping Redmi 7 comes with SD632. Everyone is using 138mm tall 5in phones (Mi4c) and doesn't want to go to bigger, so I have to find something under 150mm tall.Luckily since the 19:9 meme going on, a 147mm tall phone now is much smaller than an older 150mm tall phone, because they're 5mm smaller in width to keep the ratio. Still feels much smaller in hand while having a 5.8in screen.
>>69751788If you download any file in a browser to your sd card it'll be accessible to other apps, if you grant the apps permission to access storage and browse to it.When you get to moving apps and their data over to sdcard that's when shit starts getting useless. You have to remember the internal storage of your phone is like a 300mb/s ssd while the sdcards are like a 50mb/s flash drive, running apps off the card is dumb, but putting music or video files on SD is good.On Android even the internal storage identifies as sdcard so it's not much different.
Why is the XZ1 Compact so expensive in the U.S.? I can't even find it in stock new in stores anymore. Only on eBay and Amazon from thrid parties.
Do any of these not suck or are they all chinkshit?
>>69752347Just buy the apple one or don't lose the one that comes with your phoneIt also depends on your phone. Many phones have an internal dac and the usb-c is just transferring analog, in other phones the conversion happens in the dongle.
Got pic related for $10 shekels I know its botnet but as a dumbphone with shitposting capabilities and Media player is great
>>69752347Google or Apple if you want to go cheap but decent, better ones cost a shitload. Never buy a cheap chink shit one.
>>69752427The lack of apps makes them shit but I always loved the UI on Windows phones.

>>69752782Because I'll wait for them to use a shutter and transparent OLED or just give on on a front camera entirely and stick with a 6t instead
>>69752803Well if you already have a 6t you'd be a nigger if you wanted a 7. Your phone is good to go for many years. We will have in display cameras by the time the 6t is obsolete.

Just got a pocophone f1, and its gorgeous, but I'm a fucking dumbass and didn't see that it wasn't compatible with Verizon (us):is there a workaround/conversion via software or hardware accessories (not gonna chop the phone up)if not: Looking for something from $300-400 I don't use my phone for much, other than tons of music, photos, and meat beating. Really just looking for something with a good interface and smooth experience that will last as long as possible. Not gaming or anything. Im not gonna get a fuckugly or massive phone either (looking at you Xperia XZ1) I've had a LG G5 for a while, (physically broken now, ill miss it so much ) id just switch to a LG G7, but its out of my price range. Do you think it'll get a price drop when the lg G8 is dropped? How does that normally work?
>>69753166LG devices always go down in price fairly quickly. I have a friend that recently got a G7 thinQ with a 4k 42" tv for like $600 on a really good sale.

>>69753166LOLread the OP. Pick whatever phone you like from that list, it's all written clearly.
>>69752248Limited availability = the few sellers that still have it are price gouging. Look if you can import the phone from elsewhere, the only difference between the US XZ1C and the one sold elsewhere is the software and you can easily flash the US firmware.
>>69752347The Razer one is apparently really good but it's also pricey.
>>69752495The cheapest phones are usually carrier prepaid phones, you can get those for $20-100, but they're locked to whatever carrier is selling them so it depends on which carrier your friend is on.
>>69753166Check Best Buy, they're having a good sale on the Pixel 3 right now, it's $350 ($14.58/mo for 24 months) for the base 64gb model, $450 for 128gb.
>>69753864How small? There's Sony's XZ1/XZ2 Compact, but the batteries are <3000mah (though battery life is still very good since the screen is so small). Smallest phone with a big battery I can think of is the Mi A2 Lite at 149mm tall and with a 4000mah battery.

I am thinking of buying an LG Q6 for my dad.The seller is listing one new for 130 CAD. Should I go for it?
So i would like to get a new phone and i want one from xiaomi, but i have a hard time seeing any big difference between say mi 8, mi 8 pro, mi 8 liteOn paper they have pretty similar parameters while mi 8 pro costs like 60% more than mi 8 and mi lite costs 50% less than mi 8 lite. Those are huge price gaps for very similar devices. So where is all that money difference then?
>>69758371Compared against the Mi8 and Mi8 Pro, the Mi8 Lite has a slower processor, worse cameras, no dual band GPS or IR face recognition, and the screen is LCD instead of OLED.Mi8 and Mi8 Pro is basically the same phone, only different is the transparent back, an in-display fingerprint reader and a slightly smaller battery on the Pro. The regular Mi8 is the best buy of the three IMO. Though at a similar price as the Mi8 you can get a Pocophone which has a headphone jack, expandable storage and a bigger battery.
>>69758472>a headphone jackjesus christ, what the fuck? i completely missed that. that just completely killed the mi8 for me. why the fuck would chinks do that? i know they like to steal ideas from others but why steal the most retarded idea that apple ever had?fucking hell, guess i will get the redmi note 6 since it it's not much worse and features like face unlock and screen fingerprint are useless to me, i use fp on the back of my current redmi note 4 and i love it, super precise, super fast, why fix what ain't broken?the only feature i would really really like is the oled display though
>>69758185the phone's nothing special but for that price it's a great deal (assuming that's the outright price, not something that requires a contract)

>>69748432Are these kaios/firefox os phones actually any good? Can you sideload things? (if there are actually any apps to sideload, or if they're stuck in windows phone-tier amount of apps)
>>69759867I have to ask you again, why those two specifically? To answer your initial question, I'd pick the Xiaomi. I don't know whether it's Huawei's hardware, software or a combination of both, but those Kirin CPUs perform a whole generation behind their Qualcomm counterparts and that's why I don't like recommending them.
>>69752347They all suck. Each phone brand has their special snowflake way of wiring analog audio through USB-C pins so passive adapters are not interchangeable. The only option the sucks the least are just external DACs/USB soundcards. Using one of those can mean a few hitches with getting apps to output on the proper sound devices and slightly less battery life.
>>69759974Im renewing my phone contract and those two are the only options in my range and their selection of phones ain't that great. The only other phone othrr than those two in my range is Huawei P smart 2019.
>>69760272just buy a phone outright rather than through a contract, then you can get whatever you want
>>69755072I'm not looking for anything particularly small, the biggest I'd go for is something around the size of a Galaxy S6. And Xiaomi doesn't work for Burgers like me.

>>69763671So can I root any Verizon phones?
>>69763740There's a few Verizon phones where people have found exploits to unlock the bootloader, but the simplest thing would be to get an unlocked phone that's Verizon certified and bring that on Verizon's service (BYOD). >>69766560I plan on getting a V35 in a few weeks. From what I have read, the quality/screen issue is a bit better on the v35 compared to the V30. LG has a shit reputation though. I don't think there are roms for it and they have a weak reputation for updates. They are about $300 in new/other on eBay and about $230ish used. I can't find anything that competes price wise, especially with a headphone jack and all the AT&T burgerland LTE bands. Mi 8 is $400 without a jack and the OP6 is $460.
>>69767422>LG has a shit reputation though. I don't think there are roms for it and they have a weak reputation for updates.this isn't really a big deal for the average person tho right? Is there an android phone or manufacturer that is particularly customizable? not coming with its own apps (other than settings and maybe Phone/SMS) and letting the user install apps of their choice?I don't want to go through some "rooting" procedure and I don't want my phone informing my service provider of what data is tethering.

Hello,Basically I am tired of my LG G5. Excellent phone speed wise, screen and really nice OS by LG, but the "radio" functions literally suck donkey dick: GPS works like shit and is slow as hell (yeah i did the "fix"), and I use it a lot. The radio link sucks even worse. I have no service at all where cheap chink phones have 3G+ on the same operator. I went for this phone because the removable battery and the V20 was not available in my country, and was pleased at first but then it showed that lacks actual phone usability. This phone really needs optimal situations to work and that is not acceptable, as I said cheap Huaweis outclass it far and wide as being phone and data terminals. Can you suggest a really good phone that has similar screen and speed but ACTUALLY works with everything else expected from a phone? Thanks.

>>69769803There's plenty of phones that are easy to root. Just get a phone where the manufacturer allows the bootloader to be unlocked, like Google Nexus/Pixel, Oneplus, Xiaomi, Oneplus, Motorola etc.
>>69769957Is it possible to get root access without installing a custom OS that makes it unable to update?I'm so tired of this, I actually switched from Apple because I believed I wouldn't have to mess around with some form of jailbreaking, (because I didn't have to go through google play, I could just download APK files) yet it turns out the phone manufacturer is more of a problem than the OS.
>>69763364Everyone listens to music or audiobooks on their phones and the only alternative now is either usb C adapter to 3.5mm jack (incredibly retarded and you have to carry it everywhere with you)or bluetooth headphones which is also retarded because that is an extra battery to charge and it will die before he phone battery will
>>69770044>because I didn't have to go through google play, I could just download APK files)But you don't. >>69770922Zenfone with gcam
>>69770616It's not exactly the same hardware, only the sensor. The optics are different and Xiaomi didn't include OIS with it. I'm guessing that has to be the reason why the Mix 3 camera goes neck to neck with other flagships, while the Mi 8 can't, despite them sharing both the hardware and software on paper.
>>69770905>the redmi's was shipped without camera2 compatbility but someone modified the kernel to include it, right? It's not the kernel they're modifying, all that the flashable TWRP zips or Magisk modules that enable camera2 api is add the string "persist.camera.HAL3.enable=1" to the build.prop file, you could do it manually with a build.prop editor (still requires root). Makes you wonder why the manufacturer didn't enable it in the first place when that is all it takes. There's phones that come with Camera2 api enabled out of the box (even some of the newer Xiaomi phones), in that case all you need to do is install the GCam APK to get it working.

>>69771274>I though I only had to root and write some shit on a config file.Like I said here >>69771046, there's basically three ways to enable it: flash a TWRP zip, install a Magisk module, or edit the build.prop file manually through ADB or with a build.prop editor. All you need is root, doesn't require custom kernels or anything like that.
>>69770993Xiaomi seem to be very reluctant to enable some camera features on their phones, could be out of fear it will make their shitty app ustable. Until recently they didn't have 60 fps enabled when filming in 4k or sometimes even 1080p, despite the CPU supporting it and the thing working just fine with third party apps such as open camera.

>>69772376>>69772413Nice sounds like a great deal then. Will consider it, question though. What if I'm willing to pay more for an unlocked phone like a OnePlus 6T? Would either of you recommend it over the Pixel or anything else that would run on Verizon network?

>>69772486Oneplus 6T is also a decent option. Only thing where it really loses to the Pixel 3 is the camera, otherwise I'd say OP6T is the nicer phone, it has better hardware, and the software has more customization/features.FYI, if you want some more options to consider, Xiaomi's Mi Mix 2S and Mix 3 are also compatible with Verizon as long as you have a pre-activated SIM card.If you have a backup phone you can use temporarily, might be worth it to wait until MWC at the end of this month to see all the new phones manufacturers will be announcing there.
Any reason NOT to buy a nos LG V20 at this point or in the near future for light usage? LineageOS support, microSD slot and exchangable battery make it seem very future-proof in my eyes, which to be honest is more important to me than high end 2019 specs.

Are there any disadvantages of using a dual-SIM smartphone with only one SIM card insterted over using a standard single-SIM version of the same device? There's a discount on both versions of Sony Xperia XZ1 on a polish e-commerce platform and the dual-SIM version is only a little more expensive than the standard one. I don't need two SIM cards at the moment, but who knows what I'll need in the future, especially as the difference in price is only around 26 bucks.
How come everyone recommends the 6T over the 6 when the 6T doesn't have a headphone jack and has surprisingly awful ROM support?
>>69773172bigger battery and a smaller, more aesthetic notch are the two reasons why I'd take the 6T over the 6.
>>69772589I'd say your phone not randomly bootlooping is important too. Just don't take a gamble with LG.
Best phone under $400 that offers full ROM and root capabilities? Must have headphone jack. Would like it to have MicroSD slot and USB-C if possible but not absolutely required if internal 128GB is offered.I'm in the US on TMobile and would prefer to stay away from Chink brands
Got a first gen pixel yesterday and by day 2 I'm not getting any internet when connected to my wifi. How do I figure out what's wrong? If it matters, I'm using Cloudflare's 184.108.40.206 app, but the issue still happens sometimes if not all of the time when it is disabled. I suspect its something a reboot will fix, but I'd rather not have to reboot every day.
Is there anything worthwhile about using FrancoKernel? Its the only thing that seems even remotely useful in a world where Android phones no longer lag and freeze randomly every day. Its not 2011 anymore so I don't have much reason to get root and install these sorts of things.
