People who parrot Bose = garbage never heard a bose. It's a meme. They're not audiophile grade stuff, but they don't have any offensive characteristics or bad distortion.
You could do a lot worse than the Bose you've chosen, even when compared to wired headphones.

Boomy bass, grainy treble, manufactured by a company that won't support it (forget about buying new earpads once yours are damaged), original MSRP put it as a more expensive product than headphones like the DT880, K702 or HD6XX which is just plain ridiculous. X2 is only worth it, if knowing all the caveats you still want it, at much reduced prices. If you see them at $300+ tell the seller to choke on sewage and die.
>>
>>69322405

I just bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 250-OHM version, and I need a headphone amp but I'm not sure what to get.

I'm looking to spend between $100-150 on one, but I don't know if I necessarily need one or not because I have a Pioneer DJM-300 which seems like it's powering the headphones fine(?); or is the headphone amp something that would hook into the DJM?

If somebody could provide me with some help I woild grestly appreciated it!

Had the ATHM50 but didn't find they were that portable. Hated the cable noise. Thought that they were kind of comfortable but got sore after a couple hours.

I've got sennheiser momentum in ears at the moment and I love the sound signature, but the comfort is only ok.

I've got air pods and the sound quality is ok, but I find they are very comfortable and portable.

I've been looking at the sennheiser HD 450 BTNC and they look alright. Only issue is when I tried them on the cups were slightly small for my ears, but I'm guessing this can be replaced later on? I also liked the optional wired mode.

Bose have a dynamic EQ based on equal loudness that changes the amount of bass depending on how loud you listen to music. You wouldn't understand how bassy they really sound if you've never actually listened to them and graph read a FR chart taken at 90dB where the dynEQ becomes more linear. They're plenty bassy enough, not any less than the other headphones that anon liked. And the comfort and noise cancelling is superior to any of the alternatives except for the sorny 1000xm3

5 more dB (depending on the graph you're looking at). it's easy to EQ out as it's just a low shelf cut whereas with the m50 and dt770 you'll have to EQ the upper midrange + treble

Full contour style, but probably with a bit more of a boost than what is necessary to follow the equal loudness curves. It's clearly following the contour : the boost starts very very down low, and progressively tapers down until you reach 100hz-200hz. QC35 have a decent amount of bass but they don't have excessive midbass.
Heavy processing of sound isn't audiophile stuff but truthfully it's enjoyable to relax with low volume music in the background and still be able to hear the bass. Music rarely is enjoyable at non-dangerous levels of decibels if you don't toy with EQ or V shaped headphones anyway.

Do it, I personally liked the sound of the 60e compared to the 80, and they're great bang for buck if you like the admittedly peaky mids at around 2, and 9khz.
Also very easy to drive at 32 ohms, even some phones and portable audio players can do an ok job with them.

Horn speakers are cool, single driver horns tied to a sub at a high frequency like 300 ish Hertz is subjectively quite nice, as you can get a bit more volume and dynamics out of the full range drivers, which they aren't typically know for at volume.
Look up frugalhorn lite, it's made for the fostex FF85WK driver and delivers great results at a modest price if you don't mind some DIY, you can also buy premade flat packs for building the cabinets and have all the damping materials and wiring supplied.
As for the sub(s), I'd probably cop out and buy a small velodyne or REL personally.

Have fun anon!

Look bro, I'm not fanboying over JBL (although other people may be). I just think the LSR305 are genuinely good for the price. "for the price" is the kicker. They don't "punch over their price" or whatever other bullshit people love to tell themselves about cheaper equipment. The fact is, a truly great pair of speaker is not going to cost you between $200 or $300 when buying brand new.
They will all have compromises in some way, and the more you spend the less compromises you deal with.

With that said, I'm fond of active speakers in general but I'm fond of convenience and not having to deal with much bullshit.

idk after going through a few chinkshit monitors as well as lsr305 (since you obviously compare them differently) and they all gave me a sour taste in my mouth because of pure component selection.
I never spend over 300 on speakers, so I'm used to what that pricepoint gives you.
Surprisingly, I found passive speakers much better just on quality of components. When I got elac debut 2s, every single part on it was made to a higher standard than the JBLs, mostly because they require much fewer parts. A crossover board, jacks on the back, a cabinet, driver, and tweeter. All of these were just better build. The finish was better on the cabinet, the driver had a more sturdy cone, the rubber was higher quality than jbl's cheap rubber.
So many things were just objectively better about buying passive speakers that I wondered how jbl got off selling theirs for 300 dollars except you're paying for the plate amp, something that should not be in consideration unless you're a professional and you absolutely have to have neutral monitors for mixing and engineering, as I don't know many passive monitors that go for a dead neutral sound.
When I used the lsr305s, they were great. Sounded good, everything was good. But for 300 dollars, I may be privileged because I can go around to goodwills and pick up old hifi gear on the cheap, but there's certainly better options on amazon, just whenever I post links you just say the jbls are better for no fuckin reason and ask for me to spoonfeed you meaningless measurements that have nothing to do with the sound.

social outings are just excuses to drink so you don't feel stigmatized for ingesting toxins. >>
>>69329026
no, I stated that the variability between lambdas is about as large as the variance of hd580 variants, a few decibels here and there. slight tonality differences. even the cheapest and oldest lambda destroys midfi headphones

does that answer your question, anon?
>>
>>69329005
Anythings possible here, That is what makes it great right?
>>
>>69329026
He meant that there are only little differences between the models in terms of sound. Nuance's. The build quality of the l700 is above the rather cheap and flimsy l300. Never had the l500 in my hand so can't talk about that. The l300 was a no-go for me though, after I got to hold them in my hands I decided to save up for the l700.
>>
>>69329087
You mean l300 is like the hd 600 and the hd 660s is like the l700 in terms of value? Will i not a big difference in sound with the l300?

The anons who recommend DT 880 might be taking piss because they are not the warm headphones that you are looking for.

Been using an ath-m50x for a few years. I appreciate the neutral sound but I feel like I have to turn up the volume to uncomfortable levels to be able to fully distinguish all the detail in the music. Do more expensive headphones not have this problem?

>>
>>69329504
this post is incredibly misleading and disinfo. just quote the reviews you are referring to that don't agree with them being the best instead of relying on word of mouth. if you don't want to do that then just stop posting or audition them yourself.
>>69329540
feel free to attempt to find a review of a stax lambda that is negative when it comes to sound. the only ones you will find are people complaining about lack of impact (usually unsealed L300 impressions or comparisons to ZMF which have big midbass boosts which is emulated via EQ)
>>
>>69329570
Well HD 600 are usually regarded as good but i hated them.
>>
>>69329579
lambdas are compared to the hd600 not because of the sound but because of the price comparison to the rest of the headphones in their bracket.
>>
Lol Amazon doesn't sell them on Germany anymore. Guess they really are getting discontinued, kinda sad really. If you live in the US you can get the hd6xx which are the 650 but in black. I prefer the 58x which happens to be cheaper too, it has more bass but it isn't as veiled as the 6xx/650. They are on Massdrop.

>>
>>69329649
hd600 has a narrow soundstage compared to everything so that's nothing new. stax has a larger soundstage than say, an akg, but not as much as an hd800. bass can always be boosted to preference as long as you have a front chamber seal. the hd600 has a leaky one and is not good for bass boosting
>>
What is the general consensus on DT 1990? I haven't been in these threads since the last time I purchased headphones and I'm thinking about upgrading to those from DT 880.

any lambda is good, some of the older models may or may not have a 13khz peak that makes them too ethereal sounding. i'm unsure. my friend upgraded to stax from an akg and was lamenting that he was not used to the soundstage when gaming and it was distracting. that being said he had a modern lambda can't say with confidence when it comes to the older ones
>>
>>69329728
Not really that much of an upgrade from what I've heard. there are many that say that they prefer the dt880 which surprised me. Look on YouTube and other comment sections and try to demo them in a shop if you can.

your iq is disgustingly low. everyone knows california may be shit but the bay area is one of the most expensive places to live with the highest incomes and you want to divide the conversation to try to insinuate that I'm poor or that everyone has access to hifi headphones. regardless of all that, what does living in a poor area have to do with anything? if you don't have physical access to a headphone then just buy used. sell it for the same price you paid for.

Only thing I would complain about is that the cups are a little bit shallow, but it doesn't really annoy me. Perhaps you can get thicker pads if that's the issue. It might take some time to get used to them but they're comfy afterwards and sit tightly. The build quality is absolutely amazing and shits even on most hi-fi models.
It's unlikely that you will find anything better until stepping into the 1k+ range territory unless you want closed backs.

It’s not. Most people have access to at least one decent hifi store because they don’t live in commiefornia. Even when I actually lived in third world toilets myself I was able to locate hifi stores fairly easily. Speaks a lot about California honestly when I was able to find an incredible selection of headphones in a shitheap like Taiwan.

>>69330252
oh also you said not to buy headphones that you can't demo yet you post here with advice on which headphones to buy. why should anyone to your experiences of the hd800 vs L700? they are meaningless, everyone should be going to their local store after all and not buy something they can't listen to themselves.

Analytical, there isn't a big difference though and you're basically getting a free pair of high quality replacement pads, you can cut holes in the balanced ones.

>You also don’t realize that your special little method doesn’t account for people living outside of the United Shithole of Amerimutts but ok.
the majority of countries have a used market. not sure how that matters though, use whatever method. local meetups, buying/selling, hifi stores. they all have zero cost associated with them. all of them should be employed. i'm not stubborn enough to disregard one of them because I can't refuse to admit that maybe there just might be a hole in my logic.
>Take a weekend trip there or go to a local meetup. Hardly inconveniences.
one or two locations in europe. one in southern california. japan, singapore, one or two shops in china. what do you have to say to all the people not living in these locations that want to audition stax?
>>
>>69330614
>I'm giving you chances to be a reasonable person with reasonable advice but you aren't taking them for whatever reason.
Perhaps it’s because your idea of reasonable person is “conforming to my opinions with no room for dissent”. At the very least it’s starting to look exactly like it to me.
>the majority of countries have a used market. not sure how that matters though, use whatever method.
Something about shipping costs and the existence of a large enough hifi scene to find the specific headphone you want.
>all of them should be employed.
And I consider all of them to be some form of demoing? Don’t tell me you’re fucking sperging out because I mentioned a different form of try before you buy and didn’t specifically include your version.
>what do you have to say to all the people not living in these locations that want to audition stax?
I did say local meetups.
>>
For me, it's the HD600.
>>
>>69330669
>Something about shipping costs
sure, I'll admit it's typically not zero cost. I've lost $ over the years due to shipping. if you're smart you can mitigate/avoid and even turn a profit.
>Don’t tell me you’re fucking sperging out because I mentioned a different form of try before you buy and didn’t specifically include your version.
no, you called me an idiot when I told you not everyone have has access to hifi stores and then proceeded to call me a third worlder because you couldn't envision a scenario where someone could possibly live in a rich area without access to niche headphones that are superior but not popular among the upper class because they don't market to foreigners

your turn to admit you were wrong.
>>
>>69330766
>I've lost $ over the years due to shipping. if you're smart you can mitigate/avoid and even turn a profit.
And why exactly would anyone do that aside from in a last resort scenario? Either way this process in any country is very long term and time consuming if you want to resell the headphone. If I did this with IEMs I would have bought and resold probably 20, 30 IEMs now, most of them kilobuck range. Assuming I don't feel like dropping $20-$30k on IEMs all in one go and want to do things the money efficient way and buy them one at a time that's what, one IEM once every, say, 2 or 3 weeks? Depending on how long it takes for you to find a seller, buy it, ship, demo it, realize you don't like it, find a buyer, and then receive payment. Or I could literally shoot down one IEM a minute at my local headphone store AND tell the shopkeeper what I like and don't like and get recommendations. Which is what I did.
>you called me an idiot when I told you not everyone have has access to hifi stores
I called you an idiot when you acted like only one hifi store existed in each city in every part of the world.
>proceeded to call me a third worlder because you couldn't envision a scenario where someone could possibly live in a rich area without access to niche headphones that are superior but not popular among the upper class because they don't market to foreigners
So stax are the only headphones in the world that anyone should try? Come on now. I like my L700 as much as anyone else but this is beyond stupid.

I can be overly insulting when typing but I'd hardly consider myself wrong in telling people to demo their shit instead of buying blind. Just offensive in presentation.
