Olympic Weightlifting General

These die all the time but let's keep this one alive

Is there that many people willing to break their bodies for a one time lift?. I suppose I understand the feeling, "Wow, I just lifted that, can't believe it". But at the same time I would have to think, "Wow, I just fucked my body and my bones and lowered the life expectancy of my body by overabusing it one more time and for what?. To entertain other people?".
>>
>>51136224
Yes there are if you want to win. This happens in literally every sport. In weightlifting the risk is actually relatively low.
>>
>>51135731
I dunno man,
Being the only one in my gym that can snatch, clean, power clean, and jerk feels pretty fucking good. Especially when you do it next to the cutie pie thots that barely squat 90lbs

For me it's that it involves pretty much your whole body and lifting big weight overhead is a great feeling. It also requires timing and dedication to get down. It's a lot more fulfilling than just regular bodybuilding stuff which bores me to tears.

it's true though. i'm an owg fan but this place is dead as fuck. and when it isn't you can't get any kind of solid advice or replies. we oly lifters are a narcissistic bunch.

im of course the only exception

I doubt anyone here or on /plg/ even knows what we are doing, we just sorta do meme shit and see if it works for us.

I finally have an Oly gym nearby. First week down and I love it as much as I always expected.

Pleasantly surprised by the snatch. I was always very intimidated by it but it's actually easier than it looks (to do at all I mean).
>>
>>51140748
The lifts are tricky but I think the internet overcomplicates them.
>>
Whats an average Oly routine look like?

I'm not asking for one just what can I expect. I'd like a pretty intense one and have alot of free time. Is 5+ times a week too much.
>>
>>51135731
bumping because I have a soft spot for oly lifting during the olympics, good times during 2016 in sp and here.

there's a >crossfit gym literally 2minutes by walk from my house and I'm thinking of going there to learn the lifts once I build my home gym
>improve athleticism
>looks fun
>I already look good so no need to focus on purely building muscle
>>
I've recently lost a lot of strength or something. I hit 230 on snatch three weeks ago and ever since I've been struggling to hit 205. Before I was able to hit 205 every session like it was a joke. Do I just need to take a break or what the fuck happened?
>>
>>51141048
>230kg snatch
Lasha?
>>
>>51141067
Pounds friend. Pounds. You really think I would hang out on a Sudanese potato farming forum if I had a 230 kg snatch?
>>
>>51135731
Anybody know of a good Olympic gym in the NYC area? Preferably on the NJ side of the hudson. I want to learn Olympic lifting but I don't know where to start.
>>
Whats a good benchmark goal for a beginner.

Is 100kg for each lift achievable.
>>
>>51141304
No. A 100kg snatch is a low intermediate level lift.
>>
>>51141370
What makes you say that? I mean, maybe among competitors that makes sense but i would say for hobbyists a 68kg snatch brings you to the intermediate level. It all depends on your bodyweight anyways
>>
>>51136224
at top levels of sports yeah all the fucking time
>>
>>51135731
Whats the bare minimum I can add to make my upper body at least keep up my ever growing legs and butt without me fucking up my recovery??
>>
>>51143474
I do dumbbell bench and dips. I also do mild cardio (echo bike). Fuck what they say, just do you man
>>
>>51139924
>OWL
>narcissistic

You dont know that many powerlifters, do you?
>>
>>51143488
Do you match the extra upper body pressing with pulling (chins/rows/etc)?

Or do you think the classics/pulls will keep me covered?
>>

I have a similar problem where everytime my snatch gets up to 90 I start to fall back. For me it's knee pain - patellar tendonitis that gets progressively worse with regular Oly training. I have tried everything to increase strength, mobility, etc. Maybe I'm just old. In my 40s.

nba players die of heart failure in their 40s and 50s all the time
nfl players and fighters all have brain damage
the thing is that they lived to see themselves at their absolute peak. not many people can say that, physically or otherwise
some people are just willing to sacrifice themselves for the high of being near the top

I dunno man. It's not really pain for me. I get the weight up and over head it just seems like my receiving position is shit. Once I try to receive the bar my shoulder just buckles and I drop it. Dunno what changed from one week to the next

How's your ankle? Anything worth mentioning from training?
>>
>>51145417
change one thing about technique everything changes. ankle is on and off, doesnt hurt but its just fucked up. feeling bitter about weightlifting but im still training. kind of disgusted by the weightlifting community, full of freaks and absolute cringelords.
training snatch and clean pulls seriously for the first time and im training my squats beltless and stopping myself from valgusing and that's changing my lifts fundamentally but im sure it will ultimately pay off in the end.

How much do you weigh?

working working on weaknesses, not exactly peaked for 145/175. doubt in my mind, concerned that it is a waste of time
>>
>>51146328
It isnt
Got my knee fucked so I'm having same feelings, but if I rush the rehabilitation it'll fuck me up in the long run
>>
>>51146328
Nah man its honestly good to hear that you were working on that valgus knee and the other things you listed. No matter how much you enjoy this sport it isnt wise to keep pushing through the pain or ignoring weaknesses and ruining your body over it. Unless ofcourse you plan on being a top competitor one day but you are still young and have alot of progress you can make without breaking yourself down so badly.

Be patient, and let yourself enjoy the strength and athleticism and all the challenges that this sort of training gives you.
>>
>>51146450
i have more pain and discomfort now that im working on weaknesses than i ever did before. even on my nastiest valgusing in the squat with the heaviest weights i basically had no issues. still just assuming that its for the best

What was diagnoed as a sprain turned out to be a ruptured band after three months.

So I started weightlifting 8 weeks ago. Had like on and off coaching during the time. Finished the training block with my lifts at 62/80. Is that decent progress? I had about 6 months of gym experience before that.
My goal now is to get 70/90 before the end of the year. How plausible would that be?

Every professional sport is unhealthy and destroys your body.
>>
>>51140867
When you start out 5 times a week is doble since no coach will let you lift heavy when youre a beginner so recovery is not the issue
My first program was only technical stuff and some random drills my coach made me do to fix some bad habits
