What are some good and productive things you guys do in your spare time? I feel like when I’m not at the gym or with friends i’m just screwing around the internet

Guys im learning electric guitar. Currently at intermediate level. I still need more practice before i can actually perform and solo but i also want to start drawing again (used to be my main hobby as a kid before adulthood ) . The problem is im always tired, sleepy, unmotivated and uninspired because of work and life. I dont have the passion i used to lads.. now i just use my phone or watch youtube/netflix when i get home.
>>
>>50811129
This is why you run away from anyone without a real hobby or interest. Netflix binges and basic anime doesn’t count, I’d say an actual interest in film does. If someone doesn’t have at least a dream career they probably suck.

Play go. I constantly am playing quick correspondence games. Whip out the phone and play a few moves while I take a break or over lunch or whatever. It's made me so much more analytical. I adore it entirely like nothing I ever have in my life. When I play a serious game I am literally in meditation. Learning a language,
if you want to learn a language and you're currently not doing it you're a fag
>Pirate language Courses such as Pimsleurs
>Join free Discord servers in your target language
>Use free resources such as Duolingo, Ankidroid, etc.

I walk everyday for an half an hour and use my mp3 language courses, I look like a faggot muttering to myself in French but at least I'm doing it.
Also train your Pc-Muscle, get an e-reader pirate books and manga. Learn game, don't be a fag or make excuses talking to girls isn't such a big deal once you get past Approach anxiety, don't buy any programs though. I recommend The natural lifestyle - Tnl YouTube channel.

Biggest advice I can give you is make sure your living space is clean and tidy, and look for opportunities to get out of the house.

I guarantee you'll get an hour or two of drawing done if you just get your arse down to the library with nothing but a pencil and paper instead of trying to do it in your room.

Also for guitar specially, I recommend aiming high from the start rather than learning a tonne of basic crap. I went through a metal phase and within a year went from unable to play guitar to being able to play the most complex old megadeth songs pure by learning the riffs slowly then gradually speeding it up. Learn tough songs from the start, but you have to love them
>>
I'm reading, writing a novel (already some 90k words in), lifting and doing kickboxing. They're all legit hobbies but most normals just don't want to do anything with me and most friends abandoned me.

Well for me, I've moved more into the historical and "alternate" gaming scene. The people there are all friendly 50-something boomers with jobs, families, accomplishments. There's no GW fuckery going on - much cheaper models. And people seem to care more about the craftsmanship/story/aesthetic of it than playing it as a competitive game, which I prefer. When I play 40k it's always against a grey horde of minmaxed goons. When I play Hail Caesar or ASOBAH the other army is full painted with names and lore.

Very good. I learned French very quickly and Spanish is easier than French.

Focus predominately on oral and aural ability. Use written purely as a reference but you need to focus and being able to understand spoken Spanish, and pronunciation. Vocab and grammar will come with time. Also getting a native speaker to chat to is really helpful

>>50813582
I have considered alternate games but never looked into it deeply. What gets me is how cheap third party companies are for far more detailed versions of games workshop units. For example this figure is $20 cheaper than the GW keeper of secrets, yet far nicer.

Eh, it's a deeply philosophical work of fiction in which the main character is a human chameleon capable of changing every aspect and feature of it's body. I'm not going to lie, all the years of training, dieting, bodybuilding, all this study of muscles and nutrition and whatnot has greatly influenced some aspects of this novel, although the main theme of focus is not change (ironically).
It's mostly an experimental work, I've been writing for years, mostly short novels and stories for magazines and literary circles in my city, but this one is the crowning piece.

Use duolingo to get the basics down, do it a few hours a day. Then get into Spanish groupchats or something. After 2 months of this I got a Chilean girlfriend who couldn't speak English so I had to force myself to learn it, while texting use google translate but pinky for single words and learn grammar for hours a day. When you learn to conjugate verbs in all tenses shich is the hardest part, and when you got the basics down learning new words by the day is easy.
I think I could speak it fluently after about 6 months of this.
That said I speak 5 languages and have a knack for learning languages.

Is basically all I aim to do. Anything else are distractions (social media, video games), chores (food, hygiene, laundry) or social stuff (meeting friends etc.).

Theres this trend in the "self improvement" community that you have to this and that and learn this and study that and read this... fuck that bs man. You don't have to meditate, "food prep", read 5 books a month or be this jack of all trades type (which doesn't exist). Rather focus on like 2 or 3 things that really get you somewhere and work hard on them. Like borderline obsessed hard. Great men aren't those jack of all trade types, they knowledge might be narrow but very, very deep. Become result orientated and only do what moves you towards goals. Outsource whatever you can (food, laundry, etc.) and become and expert and one or two things. You can spread out later. Trying to pick up everything, studying for school, going to the gym, reading books about history, learning how to cook, learning how to fix your bike, learning how to meditate, learning how to play an instrument, doing some gay ass "side hussle" etc. is how you end up being 27 years old and your biggest character trait being you "know alot" of stupid trivia and reddit tier facts that make your 6/10 date chuckle.

At this point id love to be interested in video games again.

I used to enjoy being at home doing my own thing, wasting time, who cares if youre happy.

Now i cant enjoy it, its boring, all i do is browse 4chan, watch youtube shit, and waste time.

I'm theoretically productive, i regularly go to the gym, i do my university work, i work a part time job, and i see friends, but between all that, i feel empty and have nothing to do. It's like im constantly fighting to keep the creeping depression at bay. When i have a few empty days it always comes back.

I think you need to do something that's actually goal oriented and fulfilling. Are you doing university because you have to or because it leads to a place your really hungry for? You gotta ask yourself who you want to be and work towards that goal/dream.

Also Jordan Peterson once said that life isn't about being happy and that was eye opening to me. I realized you're not suppoesed to be happy sunshine all the time, it just comes once in a while and otherwise you should just continue your journey and search for meaning rather than happiness.

>I think you need to do something that's actually goal oriented and fulfilling.
I am but its just kind of a waiting game.
>Are you doing university because you have to or because it leads to a place your really hungry for?
I'm actually a mature student, I'm half way through my bachelors at age 26. It was my choice to do this after a long period working dead end jobs. After graduating i plan to piss off to China to teach for a while, save money and fuck bitches. Live the easy adventourous life. Travel is the only time i truly feel free and happy.

I know life isnt meant to be happy all the time, but it isnt meant to be boredom, worry and low mood either.

Practice every day

Get your amp next to your bed and try to learn a song every other day to break the plateau and get inspired

Listen to awesome guitar music, solo over it

Try to get some feel in there, don’t just mindlessly shred or go the scales up and down

Use the skills you acquired from learning some songs to create own riffs

Get yourself a looper and play your own stuff
Solo over it

Best advice: find some mates to jam with, it’s literally the most rewarding feel to just let go and groove

I live in a old monastery rebuild into a bunch of apartments. One of the requirements of living here is doing something to give back to the community. The garden is located on the monastery grounds. 90% of the vegetables get distributed to the poorest people in the city, the rest are for the volunteers.

Go becomes the focus object. It doesn't happen right away, but it does. It doesn't work for me playing internet go, but in physical space. The tactility of placing a stone, the game on the board gradually becomes something of a mandala, the relaxed nature of expressing one's self with each move -- it just starts adding up. Then one day when you're strong enough, perhaps 5 kyu, while playing with a friend or clubmate, it will just happen: one or two or three hours will pass incomplete silence as the both of you complete a game.
There's nothing else like it!

Try hiking for your cario. Plan a few hikes in interesting places

Buy an instrument, learn to play it. you can get a ukulele for like 20-50 bucks.

Grow a plant. They sell kits in home desperate for like 20 bucks.

Read a book. You most likely have a public library some where near you.

Shooting takes a little bit to get into but can be really fun and take up lots of time.

Cooking is easy to get into since you most likely already have to do that so you don't die.

Anon, literally just pick something you like, do a bit of research and start doing it. You're already spending time dicking around on the internet, why not make it productive time? If you cant think of something, like 80% of the boards listed on the homepage of this website under "interests" or "creative" can be turned into a good hobby as long as you dont spend your whole day lurking and browsing.

Here's my two cents in this blog post chain. Being a master in one field but a complete looser in others will make you economically powerful (If you chose something economically relevant to master) but an overall unattractive humans, humans are generalist problem solvers. If you're a top engineer at google but can't even hold a normal conversation, you're not going to be much popular, outside of the superficial appeal of your money and status. However, once you get good at the meta game you get good at all the games, there is nothing more attractive than a man that is great in everything AND a master in something (top 10%). The pursuit of mastery is good, but only as a mean to get your head out of the water first, and be a member that society will tolerate. It should not come at the expend of literally anything else, unless you want to be grand master (top <1%)

Guitar can be really fun and extremely rewarding, and learning enough to impress normies is quick and easy. (A few months if you are intelligent and take practice seriously.) Want to make it even easier and impress normies faster? Start on a classical/nylon string guitar. Learn common chords, strumming, and finger picking patterns asap. A lot of impressive sounding stuff(again, to normies) is easier than you'd expect. Women are usually really easily impressed by even amateur guitar.

Fap to increasingly degenerate fetish shit as often as possible until trannies turn you on. Continue until your standards for trannies lower and eventually progress to including twinks. Homosexual arousal is learned behavior and being "gay" is simply a shallow identity for people who chose to perform homosexual acts. Anyone can become gay if they really want to just like faggots can stop being gay if they want to. It's a choice. No one is "born gay".

>I just don't like to do things that aren't escapism
I feel you, but that's the point. You want to escape because you don't feel good about your life. But you'll have to force yourself to suffer through some self improvement before you'll feel better about your life. It gets worse before it gets better. But if you don't take the leap, it only ever gets worse. You can buy time with increasingly degenerate forms of escapism and instant gratification, but if you're remotely intelligent, eventually it gets old and leaves you feeling empty and dead inside. You're going to have to face this no matter what. Either you choose face it now, on your terms, or you wait until you have a breakdown, and far less years of youth to work with.

consumption of most creative endeavours is fine as long as you perform analysis on the ideas and deeper meaning behind them. This will sharpen your mind, analysis of great TV and film and their themes is just as good as great literature.

My most recent ex was a competition rider in her youth. She's on an SSRI, an SNRI, an antipsychotic, takes Klonopin when needed, and self-medicates with weed and alcohol daily. Sweet, sweet woman but completely bonkers

Pretty based. I usually take 10 minute breaks during work by playing 5|5 chess games, i love it.
Would love to eventually get into Go

You could learn a language or how to play an instrument I’d like to but I haven’t got started just yet. Normally if I know I’m gonna do nothing but fuck off and stare at my phone I just go for a walk. Can’t really call it productive but it’s better than staying still.

What site/app do you use, anon?
>>
the best bit that /fit/ does is when they talk about their hobbies and complain about how stupid the hobbies holes have are but guys here have hobbies just as terrible

I got mine from here: https://shop.steprevolution.com/products/stepmaniax-stage

Expensive, and rarely in stock, but it's arcade-grade. Otherwise you'll have to try your luck with metal pads online. The computer part is easy, just download stepmania 5 (https://www.stepmania.com/download/) and throw in some songs.

Fuck I always find these threads super late at night and all the motivation keeps me up at night and goes away in the morning. Guess I'll stay up at night and do what? How can I just "do" something that requires a constant habit? There can be endless options for what I can do, but I don't even know what I actually have legitimate passion for. It's all contained in a mindset I don't know how to create.

I wish. It's more like weird-looking leg-vibrating. But it's fun, great cardio and less expensive than a treadmill.

Online Go Server (OGS) for games, Sensei's library for info, Kiseido and Amazon for literature, Yellow Mountain Imports for supplies, Kurokigoishiten if you want to see/get the high end shit straight from the source. As for apps, eh, they all pretty much suck except for iOS exclusive SmartGo. In general, interacting on a 19x19 grid is very uncomfortable on even large phones.

Learning Japanese, how to draw, meditation, and I haven't touched my guitar in months but there's that too, I suppose. I've also been getting into learning to make myself have more dreams, working my way up to lucid dreaming.

I've been going to festivals, raves and regular parties way before i started programming.
Hilarious that you think you have to be a shutin incel to code.
Maybe that's your way of coping with being an intellectual failure, you tell yourself you can either be a chad or smart.
Hint: you are neither

>when your career is so shit and meaningless you feel the need to justify your existence with a "productive" hobby.
I hate people like that. Had to talk with some 40-something married cunt the other day who kept complaining about her husband wanting to rest at home while she was collecting useless fucking hobbies like playing in a shitty band, taking dancing classes or doing fucking ugly pottery.

What's worth doing is worth doing well. You only have enough time to do one or two things well. Collecting hobbies is for dilettantes.
>>
>>50826207
Bruh you just gotta try shit until you find something that clicks. No point trying to power through something you don't enjoy doing just because you think it'd be cool to be good at it.
>>
>>50828741
>I hate people like that.
Then you hate 85% of people.

Good.
I much prefer talking with people who have dedicated themselves to their craft than hobby-devourers.

Kinkakuji is for Chinese plebs who need to be directed to their designated photo spots. Ginkakuji is for people who appreciate serenity.

What if they love their craft too much to sell it and don't want to taint the beauty of creation with the stench of needing money?

Although I'm a Brazilian myself, and thus have a higher standard for what violence and shithole means, I really enjoyed Colombia, especially Bogota.
Don't come to Brazil, though.

>not wanting to experience all life has to offer
I'm not saying you have to get into hard drugs or become a serial murderer, but having varied life experiences are much more fufilling (IMO) than narrowly engaging life in only a handful of ways.

That's good too. I don't necessarily mean craft as your main job, there are people who do a job just to support themselves and perform their craft in their free time. But it's vastly different from just being a hobby bulimic and throwing your interests around like badges of honor.
