I figured out the same thing. Face pulls and neck training and probably do light weight/high reps for arms after you plateau.

probably SS but I have serious issues with it. Do Bill Starr's 5x5 since it's what he Ripp'd off. Personally, I suggest every beginner do some upper body calisthenic work before they touch a barbell to strengthen the tendons in their shoulders and elbows. Beginners have notoriously bad form so beginners + bench + linear progression can be a recipe for disaster.

Try the recommended routine for beginners, it's a bw program that incorporates barbells for squats, romanian deadlifts and deadlifts. Do it for 12 weeks while looking up other exercises and shit, once the 12 weeks is up you can move onto whatever program you want that's barbell based.
