Is wanting to be /thinspo/ and having an ED the same thing? I feel like every source I've read about /thinspo/ conflates it with having an ED, even my own friends and family think I have an ED because of my interest in it. i used to have an ED and in no way i wanted to get back to obsessing over my body that much and have no passions, no hobbies other than thinking about food. but lately I've noticed I've put on some weight as soon as I've stopped going to work and it sucks. not being naturally skinny really does suck and you can use all the discipline you want but maintaining it for years is impossible, first of all because i want to live and have goals and i need health for that. second of all, people would bother me to no end to get back to normal. third, discipline is a limited resource, unless you are irreparably sick. I was 290lbs at 6'0" and dieted down to 140lbs, put 20lbs of muscle mass back on in the gym, and have maintained 160-165lbs since then, for the past 7 years. I eat 1800-2000 cal a day with a cheat day where I exceed 5000 cal once every two weeks to once a month if I don't feel like I need it. Last time I 'broke' that dietary rulebook of mine was 2 years ago. If you're diligent enough it just becomes second nature. I don't even plan meals anymore. I just guesstimate calories and am usually correct, but this ability was gained around the 4 year mark into dieting. On really active days I add an additional 500 cal that I can eat, as well. It stops being hard if you can be diligent for a year or so. Also, I was not 'naturally thin'. I'm the kind of person who gains weight easily. Both muscle mass and fat. The trick in my case was not ever letting myself undereat. If I want to lose weight, I only do a 300-500 cal deficit. It's time consuming but it's mild enough that the hunger never gets so bad that I feel frustrated, like the way you do now. P.S, therapy will help with ED. If you want any other info about how i've maintained my healthy weight for so long just ask, I'll probably keep this thread open for 20mins or so.

Metabolism is based on weight and activity level, not bodytype or any bullshit like that, short of having a disorder that causes it to be abnormally high or abnormally low. You calculate your BMI and activity level on one of those online calculators that then tells you an estimate of how many calories you burn a day, or if you want to be really accurate you can log an average day for yourself activity wise, and then go have your BMI and daily caloric expenditure figure given to you by a doctor. Lets say for the sake of this example you burn 2600 calories a day just by existing, and you're sedentary. A pound of bodyfat is equivalent to roughly 3500 calories iirc. You limit yourself to 2300 calories a day and stick to it religiously. With your 300 calorie a day deficit, it'll take you 11.5 days to lose 1lb of bodyfat. If you make that deficit 500 a day, it'll take you 7 days to lose 1lb of bodyfat. Weigh yourself once every 2 months or so to see a difference, because bodyweight fluctuates with water retention and by time of day (you're lightest in the morning, heaviest before bed, this can differ by up to 8lbs or so). Weigh yourself at the same time of day every time you do, for this reason. These rules do not differ from person to person. It doesn't matter what you eat, at all, so long as the calories are properly accounted for. You could eat nothing but straight butter, and if you followed a 500cal a day deficit, you'd still lose roughly 1lb bodyfat per week. What you eat is still important though, filling foods (fiber, protein) will keep your hunger levels down longer, making it easier to stick to your regiment. It also matters in the sense that despite losing weight, your nutrient intake will still have influence over your body composition. Try to stay high protein if you don't want to lose a whole lot of muscle mass along with the fat. It's literally that simple.
