Retards, hot weather is when ivy/prep/trad shines. Simple fabrics made of cotton and linen, complimented by tasteful watches and sunglasses. When the sun goes down you can throw a light layer on top. Literally watch talented mr ripley or jean-luc godard films that take place in summer (pierrot le fou comes to mind). Rather than looking like an uptight prick you can look like you spend your free time sailing and drinking good wine
>>
Articles of clothing inspo for summer:

1. Shirts

- cotton t-shirts (plain or thick stripes)
- button down (linen, poplin, oxford)
- lacoste polo
- rugby shirt

2. Pants
- cotton chinos
- linen pants
- nantucket reds
- white/tan jeans (these are ivy as fuck, do your research)
- shorts (imo swim trunks are the only acceptable shorts, but im sure there will be those who disagree)

3. Outerwear
- Sport coats (seersucker, linen, madras, poplin)
- harrington
- light parka for summer showers

4. Footwear
- canvas deck shoes
- weejuns
- boat shoes
- barefoot (trad x999)

Feel free to add to the list

>>
>>14338563
Put it on.
Put pants over it.
Stretch arms above head to let it loosen a bit.
>>

Possible errors may include:

>Shirt too short
>Shirt too wide
>Armholes too low

>You could tuck the shirt into your underpants.
>You could wear high-rise pants
>Wearing a vest may help (but then again, lmao vests, amirite?)

If everything fails, use shirt stays.
>>
>>14337458
Fucking hell, go to a doctor.
>>
>>14338563
Put shirt on.
Put pants on.
Before closing fly and waist button, put one hand in your pants and pull the hem of the shirt down, the other hand holds the pants up.
Close fly and waist button.
Slip your fingers between shirt and pants, palm against the shirt, leave the thumbs out, both hands on both sides of the placket. Pull both hands in opposite directions towards your hips to clean the front of the shirt and bring excess fabric to your back.
Profit
It works for me. It's a bit billowy in the back but I like it like that.

Are pastel (especially pink and yellow) shirts lost to fratcore now, or do they still have a place?

post some inspo, summer's coming
>>
>>14338739
fratcore is a yellow or pink shirt with some sort of pastel bottom. a yellow ocbd with khakis is a solid look.
>>
>>14338739
>>14338747
I think it's more of a fine line than other color shirts but I'm probably going to invest in both pink and yellow for the summer. My style has traditionally been more conservative but I've decided I don't care anymore.

what color jackets go well with pink or yellow, if I wanted to keep them on in slightly less casual settings? I feel like you'd have to opt for a navy blazer to prevent it from looking too flamboyant

That's what I think and also sometimes it can be really great though most of the time people amazingly fuck up just like prep. Also, one question brought around a lot is how to atualize prep fashion, how to bring it to the 21 century. I think is very telling of the situation that most reference books of this style are from like fifty years ago. Also very few fit pics (original content). It's very alarming. I'm starting to think that most people in these threads just wanna larp and complain about how things were better in "the good ol' times". And thus is covered the subject of time.
A much more relevant question is the one of space. I'm not gonna pretend I'm an american. And a huge number of people here aren't either (I'm including the europeans). This makes some stuff troublesome weather-wise. Sometimes is just too hot to wear layers. And more important than anything: there are different cultures worldwide all with its own quirks and traditions. So I'm not gonna copypaste the Ivy style because this is the complete opposite of being effay. I'm not gonna larp as the white trust fund kid that I'm not, because most people here aren't either. I'm gonna take from this system what serves me and discard the rest. I'm gonna take the stuff I like and throw into the trash bin the rest. I'm gonna own it, make it my own. And mostly I'm not gonna follow those bland charts. They absolutely suck.

The amount of emphasis mutts put on their schools is amazing. Did an exchange to an ivy a few years back and was overwhelmed with the bland sense of style and overall mediocrity of the people.

I never said I was. My point is: you must embrace your local culture, your cultural heritage. Not deny it, not try and larp as the WASP that you're not.
Also La sape is a more extravagant and poorer version of prep. Prep is more subtle and pervasive, La sape is more quirky and flashy. Prep if done wrong turns out Sape. The best Sapeur fits could be Prep. They have an obviously intersection. And that's the annoying truth you people are trying really hard and unsuccessfully to deny.

I just ordered some Cordings cotton chinos, and they fit perfectly. They are technically "dry clean only", and while you can machine wash them, supposedly they shrink. After washing a pair a couple times, on delicate, with cold water, turned inside out, there was no shrinkage from what I could tell.

They sit just over the hips but below the navel, having a 11-12" inch rise (depending on the waist size). For reference, Levi 501's have a 10" rise. They taper down the leg, so they are not a "sack", nor are they slim or in any way hug the leg. A good compromise for a guy who wants to mature out of slim fit but isn't used to having a more "expansive" silhouette. You can order them hemmed to your liking, but imo its best to order them unfinished (at 37" inseam) and then get them hemmed/cuffed yourself, especially if like myself you're ordering internationally and dont want to fuck the length up.

I got navy, khaki (british khaki) and putty (what we'd call khaki). Immensely pleased with how they've turned out, blind buying pants can go very wrong. Might grab some in cream next time they have a sale, and some of their cords/moleskins/gabs when I feel like leveling up my game
>>
Milano or Clark fit?
>>
>>14342716
The problem with these prep/ivy threads being on /fa/ is that the people who frequent this board use fashion to make up for their lack of personality. This contradicts with ivy/prep, which is meant to help someone blend in visually, by being [mostly] bland and inoffensive. Paradoxically, this emphasizes their personality and makes it their defining characteristic (as it should be).

>>14341895

>>
>>14350644
The original purpose of prep is a class indicator, also the more “fun” elements of these styles (what made them stick apart from the run of the mill dresser of the early 20th century) are meant to show some personality. For example I have a bow tie with lacrosse sticks on it because I play lacrosse, is that supposed to make me blend in? Of course not.
>>
>>14350644
>This contradicts with ivy/prep, which is meant to help someone blend in visually, by being [mostly] bland and inoffensive.

>>14342716
considering the "uniform" of the 21st century is skinny jeans, t-shirt, hoodie and sneakers, yeah, ironically chinos+ocbd does make you stand out.
>>
>>14337904
I'm the opposite, matter of personal taste I presume
>>
>>14352438
Which is why i included the qualifier. What i said is true and your bowtie sounds gay, it does not express your personality any more than a band t shirt expresses someones personality

Trad is not dead and Brooks Brothers aren't going out of business.

Trad/Ivy provides congruence.

You can't step out of a Porsche 911 or a high-end SUV in sexcore without looking like a drug dealer or an eastern European pimp.

And there is only so much charcoal suit + white shirt one can wear outside of the office without coming across as an autistic psycho.

TL;DR when you have money, trad/Ivy is a must at some point.

Is it true that trad and preppy are just as much of a mindset, personality traits, the way you behave, and your manners, than simply the way you dress?
>>
>>14353044
Yes. Trad/prep without proper behavior makes you a classless frat boy
>>

What sorts of behavior do I need to emulate?
>No swearing , ever
>calm composure, not acting spastic
>able to articulate sentences well, no stuttering
Anything else?
>>
>>14353070
Little things like standing for handshakes, holding doors for ladies, table manners, not playing on your cellphone in public, robust vocabulary, being able to quote presidents and classic writers when appropriate (reading classics and listening to old political speechs is a great way to brush up on your vocabulary anyway), and being able to speak directly about your positive feelings (i.e. if you have a good friend, bluntly tell them "hey, you are a really good friend and I appreciate that").
>>
>>14353070
Also, don't complain ever, and when speaking about a third party, be accurate and fair to them. For example,

Bad:
>Coworker: Hey anon, I heard our boss chewed you out pretty good and now you have to work on Saturday
>You: He's being a dick and trying to say these forms are due Monday when they are clearly marked for next month.

Good:
>Coworker: Hey anon, I heard our boss chewed you out pretty good and now you have to work on Saturday
>You: He maintains these forms are due on Monday, but my understanding of the situation was different.
