Only brought us degeneracy. These men looked like men. Individualism could be expressed by wearing different hats, ties, pocket squares. Even by wearing shoes or the little pattern of your suit. People weren't so eager to get at each others' throats. Nowadays I only need to look at someone wrong and they will try to look for a fight. Back then, one could carry a gun legally. Why don't you show a pic of ancient Rome and lament how no one wears a toga anymore, like a real man.

If you want to wear a suit and tie in public, do so. You'll only look like a total dork if you don't have the confidence to pull it off.

People began to drive cars. Hats to protect people from the elements became unnecessary because they were in a building or a car for 95% of their day.
Additionally, the culture began to focus more on hairstyles which a hat kind of defeats the purpose of. Think of greasers, beatniks; in the UK, mods, rockers, skinheads. Hats didn't fit.

Jacques Cathelineau (5 January 1759 – 14 July 1793) was a French Vendéan insurrection leader during the French Revolution. He was known among his followers as the Saint of Anjou.

When the French First Republic was established, the revolutionaries committed atrocities against the civilians of the Vendée during the Reign of Terror. Cathelineau rallied an army of peasants loyal to the monarchy and the Church and waged an uprising against the revolutionaries, capturing several villages and castles, leading more volunteers to follow him.

As the War in the Vendée grew in success, Cathelineau joined forces with other counterrevolutionary leaders and was made generalissimo of the Catholic and Royal Army. He inspired his troops by fighting alongside them on the front lines, which proved to be his downfall. In the summer of 1793, while he and his men were storming the city of Nantes, Cathelineau was shot down by a sniper and died soon afterwards. Without his leadership the royalists were defeated and soon they broke up into different factions. After the Bourbon Restoration, in honour of the heroism and sacrifices of Cathelineau, his family were ennobled.

People began to catch on to the trap of consumerism.
Don't need a hat, don't wear one.
Don't need a tie, don't wear one
Don't need a suit, don't wear one.
People began to dress according to their needs, rather than some random, proscribed, meme of the day.
Technology changes the scene too.
Central heat and A/C meant you didn't need multi-layers of clothing to stay warm inna winter.
Private vehicles meant you didn't need overcoats or other cumbersome pieces.
Finally, people realized what a pain in the ass it is to play dressup every fucking day. Simplification and streamlining became the style of the day.

If you kept your feeling out of this, you'd have a good argument against classic style. Then again, what if heating fails you or becomes costly? What if A/C fails you? What if you just want to go for a walk on a rainy/snowy day? Only thing I find comfortable in modern fashion is the range of freedom in wearing only a tshirt and running shoes. Then again, it does not make me look as good as a suit or some smart casual look. I don't feel as comfortable either.

Back in the days, your status war a function of your wealth and your willingness to obey the laws of society. This is signified in the way you're dressing (able to dress).
>Be richfag, buy suit in the best fabrics
>Be honest poorfag, buy shabby suit but keep it clean to show good intent
>Be literal scum, give zero fucks and wear literal rags
It was a simple and quick way to mark your place in society, it reinforces the perception as to what it is and gives you certainty.

Nowadays, your status is defined by millions of things - wealth and power, still, but also tons of personal qualities like creativity, independence, charisma etc. How this translates to the fashion world is there are no more hard and fast ways to translate status to clothing - a world where high status people can wear t-shirts and sweaters like tech billionaires or leisure wear and lingerie like some entertainers. It's a world where the loser dresses like the winner of yesterday (see the reddit uniform) and the winner dresses... frankly I don't know, I'm not one of them. It becomes a game of showing off your qualities, a game with unclear rules and subjective winners. In short, it makes fashion stressful and uncertain for those who don't wish to play such games because they keep losing them. They'd rather just wear a suit as befitting their economic status and be done with it. Alas, that is not how society works any more.
>>

You're idolizing of the past - things were different back then, not necessarily for better or worse, just different.

It's like those "born-in-the-wrong-generation" guys, who wants everyone to listen Led Zeppelin and hates rap. I detest rap as well, and ironically enough i mainly wear suits, but i appreciate that i have the *option* to do so, and that it isn't a choice that is taken for me. I enjoy being able to form my own life and career, instead of having to take over the family business and so on. What you're talking about existed because people didn't have a choice in the matter, and they rebelled as soon as they got one.

Why is it so hard to just do your thing, and appreciate that you're free to do so, while others do theirs?

You can wear them, back then you were obligated to, now you have freedom to choose, that most people don't shouldn't be your problem.

The aesthetics of the 1920's will never be replicated.

Buddy the fact that men and women can even drink together in the same establishment shows how far we've fallen. Men and women drinking together is a product of sick 1920's Flapper degeneracy.
