$670 Canadian, interested in the chromeexcel, left most, that's SO much fucking money. My leather jacket didn't even cost this much. Are they worth it? White's MP service boot
>paying that much for fucking chromeexcel
>>13903663I own a pair and have another one order through White's that i hope will be done and to me by the end of the month. Best boots i have ever worn, hands down. That's why i bought another pair. I have them in chromexcel and that's when i found out i hate Chromexcel. But i ordered a pair in White's brown oiled smooth leather so i can wear the hell out of it and not feel like babying it like with Chromexcel, which scratches and scuffs super easily so I'm afraid to really wear it hard. The Arch Ease they do is amazing, no boots I have owned have supported my feet the way White's do. Get them and you won't regret it.
A good pair of shoes will last you a lifetime.$670 over 10 years really is peanuts.
>>13903675they have other leathers, i just prefer the look of chromexcel, i agree given the type of leahter it's insane, but the thing is they hand make every single one, so they drive the price up. personally I would prefer them machine made if it meant a lower price, but hey these are the boots I like
>>13903692That's what I tell people who ask my how i justify my boot purchases. In ten year I'll still have my boots but over those ten years how much will they have spent on new Vans or tennis shoes?
>>13903688wait WHAT, please enlighten me, I love the smooth finish and look of chromexcel but they are super easy to scratch, i only figured I'd buy the chrome because every other version has a rough texture, are you saying your brown oiled is a smooth finish? could you upload a picture?
>>13903700>>13903692this is honestly how TO justify it, really hard to any other way. Issue is not being lazy with the care and the fact that it's a near $700 lump sum. It's super easy to shake off a $100 purchase every year for 7 years
>>13903688also i they''re apparently 570 off white's but 500 off bakers, is there a difference between buying off the two?
>>13903705Order through Baker's and you have way more leather options for cheaper. They're cheaper than through White's and you can get 10% off for signing up to their newsletter. They have all the Chromexcel as well as black and brown dress leather, black, brown oiled smooth, roughout of all colors, horsehide and more. >>13903708Baker's has more leather options and also let's you choose speed hooks. There is no reason to not go through Baker's.
>>13903692>a lifetime>10 years
>>13903710why... im confused, is there a reason white's lets bakers do that? I don't get why that's a thing. But yeah if you could upload a picture of your boots im really interested in what the smooth brownoil looks like
>>1390371110 years without possibly resoling them, leather itself will literally last a lifetime with proper care
>>13903717They just have a partnership is all. I don't know the politics of it. My brown oiled smooths are in production, I hope to get them by the end of the month. If you check out Baker's they have all the leather options. I think there's almost 20 to choose from. As for what it looks like just Google "White's ..." And pick the leather. https://www.bakershoe.com/product/whites-military-police-service-boot
>>13903726ooh sorry I didn't realise through the text that the ones you have are chrome mb. yeah was only asking because the bakers website doesn't do well with pictures
>>13903688Did you up for a structured or unstructured toe box?I have clown feet so am going to try and get some custom white's made and that's the one thing keeping me up at night.
>>13903733what's the difference? also i believe that they do custom work without any hassel considering they're all hand made anyway
>>13903733>>13903740Their structured toe isn't like Red Wing where it's a big bump or anything. It's literally just a plastic insert in the tow that prevents the toe from collapsing over time. It doesn't add to the shape or anything. I see no downside to having it. >>13903731Like i said, just Google it and youll get lots of pics. All their smooth leathers can be done in roughout as it's just the other side of the leather.
>>13903740>>13903740an unstructured toe box does this.
>>13903733>>13903745would prefer the structured, also big fan of the cap
>>13903750Structured toe is not the same as cap toe. Cap toe is just you preference if it's your desired aesthetic. I think the MP boots look best with the cap toe
>>13903755i know the difference, im saying i'd like both, cap asthetic structure for support, ooor are they not usually done at the same time?
>>13903760I'm wondering this too. Do you need a celastic cap if you're making a cap-toe boot?
>>13903760The celestic insert in the toe is from the inside just to give structure to the toe. The cap toe would go over the toes. You can get both.
>>13903763yeah that's it, celestic toe cap
why is chromexcel such a big thing if it's so dainty?
I just hate how the finish scratches off so easily. Just barely touching it means it's gone and once it's gone, it's not coming back unless you use polish or something. That really bothered me and made me want another pair of these in oil tanned leather instead for more durability.
>>13903790then i don't understand why chrome is even popular, i understand shoe polish once in a while but still
>>13903778Some chromexcel leathers have creasing aesthetic that's less cool than normal $400 leather shoes, that's the problem it seems. That's right, some customers cannot accept work boots look realistically bad when worn.
>>13903790Are you not putting a couple layers of polish on them before wearing them? If not, holy shit dude what are you doing?
>>13903828I didn't know any better my first time. I wore them straight out of the box.
>>13903855Son you get moisturizer like a lotion for them. Dry leather looks like shit and cracks. Polish is needed to protect them so they don't scuff and scratch up. Especially on the toe cap and back heel. If you are going to spend money on shoes at least know how to protect your investment. You might as well buy 20 dollar Walmart shoes with your ineptitude.
>>13903675>chromeexcelthe anti-cxl meme is so freshCan we anti-rubber doles too?Like insist massive rugged boots only have thin slippery leather soles?
>>13904343It is new. And I'm partly responsible for it in the boot threads. CXL is shit though
>>13903692>implying $670 over 10 years is something to brag aboutMate, I have 60 euro leather shoes that last me almost 10 years now. For $670, my grand-grandchildren better wear it too.
>>13904356CXL isn't necessarily shit but do you actually mean it isn't necessarily good either? Do you really think CXL is like a discount way of processing leather compared to other methods? I've some footwear that is oil infused pull up leather which isn't CXL and they are really great. CXL itself isn't super impressive but imho it is decent when decent. >>13904670>I have 60 euro leather shoes that last me almost 10 years nowSo you've been wearing the same cheap shoes for a decade? I don't understand what this could possibly mean to someone wearing a variety of much nicer shoes. You can use a garbage bag as a raincoat too. You can sleep on a park bench using newspaper as a blanket.
>>13903663these dont look like 700$ boots frankly
>>13905282Wait until you see them in person. They are absolute tanks. I feel like they could survive a nuclear war.
>>13905282Also they're $450 boots if you order through Baker's with the discount code. You do realize that CAD and USD hae a different conversion rate, right?
>>13903663horween chromexl , imo, sucks. it creases like a motherfucker and ages terribly. google images of the alden indy chromexl, and youll see what i mean
look, lets do some soul searching here for a minute. not a single one of you trend hopping fags is going to wear the same pair of boots for 10+ years. you know it , and i know it. sure, they will last that long. but as soon as a newer, hipper trend hits, youll put these in the back of the closet, and they will stay there. dont try to convince me otherwise. show me ONE item that you have been wearing, on a consistent basis, for 10+ years. you cant. you like to buy new shit regularly to keep up with the jonses, and add it to your rotation. i know you. stop trying to justify these purchases of 800 dollar leather jackets and 600 dollar boots by saying "but theyll last a lifetime!" when you know for a god damn fact that after a few seasons, they will never see the light of day again.
>>13906146Service boot type boots have been popular since they were introduced in WWI. They're never going away
>>13906146Most cotton clothing or wool clothing worn out after 4-6 years anyway so your expectations are unrealistically high and at zoomer age people can't do that, do you expect a 24 years old zoomer wear same red wings and a leather jacket from 14 years old, is he dwarf?Only items that manage to endure 10+ years are my adidas climacool trackpants and my cologne bottle while I throw off 2 sweatshirt, 1 sweatpants, 1 chino pants, 3 jeans, 5+ polo shirts, 1 scotland wool sweater, etc just by having holes of various degrees.
>>13906315I literally have a t-shirt that I got for Christmas when I was 18. I am now 28. Clothes last as long as you take care of them. Most of my clothes are 4-5 years
These style of boots are all over the place. Nothing wrong with paying for quality but $120 is my limit.
>>13906327>Clothes last as long as you don't actually wear them.Fixed
>>13906394Then you will never get quality because you're too cheap.
>>13906400>owning clothes you don't wearIShiggydiggydo you guys don't do this.
>>13906146oh look, a tween doesn't know most 40 year olds have underwear older than he is
>>13906481Now that you mention it I can think of regular clothes I see my dad wear that he has had most of my life. I'm almost 30.Most adults keep their clothes a long time, I know that this is a concept that most of the underages on /fa/ with their jogger pants and techwear can't seem to grasp, but the older you get the longer you keep your stuff. The idea of an adult buying boots and keeping them for 10+ years isn't that strange.
>>13906394120 won't get you anything that isn't utter shite
>>13905315they look cheap>>13905290
>>13907027to the untrained eye
>>13903688>Chromexcel, which scratches and scuffs super easilyThis is completely untrue and the assertion is without any reference point or comparison. This guy is even advising a complete stranger to get a particular last because it fit him well? Read as - one guy had a bad experience and now thinks everything in the rest of the world is exactly the same as his particular circumstance.
>>13907599If you don't believe the top finish of CXL scratches easily you've never owned it and your opinion is invalid
>>13909170>the top finish of CXLCXL is a method of infusing fats back into the leather so any top coating is an entirely different matter which is completely independent of the CXL process. Perhaps your issue is maybe with Horween putting out too much of this "brand" of leather to discount shoe manufacturers? I'm not 100% sure I buy that either. It could just be you? The comments you are making seem more for Red Wing's heavily processed and shaved down leather.
>>13903663>Are they worth it?As in are the 3x better then a similar 200 dollar boot no, not even close, but the quality will be noticeable better. I mean you could look at it as an investment but that is kinda bullshit, if you take care of a 200 dollar pair of boots then they will likely last you just as long. The people who say to the contrary probably are not even 2 decades old so what the fuck do they know. If you really need to justify it just realize that its only 670 dollars which in the grand scheme of things isn't a ton but you might be dissapointed when you spend the better part of a grand on a pair of boots that the vast majority of people will hardly notice. If you really like them get them its not going to ruin you financially but it is a safer bet not to, as with any expensive article of clothing its not going to change your life so keep that in mind. Expensive Clothing =/= Happiness
>>13909493This is poor advice. Do get them but get fit properly and really consider the design that will suit your needs. White's are a thoroughly decent product.
