Holy christ I must be retarded because I cannot fucking find a spool or roller or whatever the fuck it's called to mount this fucking spring on this fucking shaft.I'm trying to mount a spring on a shaft (it's a constant force spring for a counterbalance system but that's beside the point). The shaft is 8mm or 5/16", the spring's inner diameter is about 2.3" so the spool should be 2.6 to 2.8" diameter.Where the fuck do I find a god damn spool or roller or bearing or whatever the god damn fuck this shit is called? I swear to god everything I can find is a super thin sleeve bearing (like 3/8" OD) or one of the two diameters doesn't match what I need. What is the part called? What should I be searching for? And where the fuck can I buy one?
>>1628389>What should I be searching for?a guy with a lathe.
>>1628389Why not just thread a nut on and get a big-ass washer?
>>1628431This guy is correct. You need a specialty bushing made for this, probably with a lip on one side to keep the spring from slipping off. Usually one sees an oillite bronze bushing in these sorts of applications but 2.7 inches is pretty big for bronze stock. If it's just moving a little use soft steel and grease it well. If it is a rotating element or uses the spring like a one way brake, use the bronze (and still grease well, probably with moly grease).
