Second best running gag in the series is "Santa Claus committed some unspoken crime against Uncle Scrooge that was so heinous, it made Scrooge swear an eternal blood feud against him."
>>

How was the episode?
>>
>>107609547

Well it may not be bad but it’s certainly skippable.
>>
Just the sight of someone holding that jar made me nervous, and the jar breaking was even worse. It looked like just a reference that won't get brought up later, but I couldn't help thinking of how much serious trouble that liquid caused in the comics.
>>

Damn thought it was the darkwing episode after seeing dangerous
>>
>"Who's the loser now, Coach Dad?"

Beaks has dad issues. That explains so much, actually.
>>
How come Huey was so supportive of Fenton's relationship but with Scrooge he spent the whole time teasing him?
>>
>>107610126
You could say that for the entire tech industry desu.
>>
>>107610164
He was just trying to fit in with his brothers in that ep.
>>
After today's episode, is it safe to say Beaks is a legitimate sociopath?

But both Goldie episodes have been great, though it's mostly because they are the only Scrooge solo adventure episodes without any kids dragging him down
>>
>>107610451
Okay I’ll give you Goldie being at least debatable since she’s nothing more than a discount Catwoman in this and Catwoman is pretty damn far from “best girl” material, but Gandra hasn’t done anything or shown any real awfulness, and Webby has actively brought down the quality of episodes that she’s in.

how is Beaks not going to be finished after this? Beaks and Glomgold are fucking PR nightmares
at least the other villains don't have multi-billion dollar industries on their shoulders
>>
>>107611099
Waddle is Apple. Mark Beaks is Steve Jobs.
He can do whatever he wants and be praised for it by millions of blind apologists who see him as a living god.
>>
I don't get the Glomgold thing. Is the woman the boss now or is Glomgold still at the top? Also, why is she so condescending? She isn't the one that made the multi billion company.
>>
>>107611188
This. I mean, clearly it wasn't Beaks. Is Beaks a twelve-foot tall hulk who climbs buildings? No! Clearly this is just competitors trying to potshots at him by saying "ooh look, he's that monster that sorta looks like him" because they can't beat his innovation.
>>
>>107611306
The shareholders made her CEO when Glomgold went missing. Now they're kind of co-CEO I think? Glomgold owns a lot of shares, but not enough to outvote the other shareholders. He might have 50%.

It could have almost destroyed the enitre planet by melting a hole to the centerof the earth and destroying its core. Scrooge and his nephews had to travel to the center of the earth in order to recapture it. And because the stuff can destroy anything it gets intocontact except diamonds, the solution is literally indestructible.

And later on it was stolen by one of the world's greatest thieves.
>>
>>107608881
So, what are the chances that the nanites will show up again?
>>
Did they just spill the jar of Omnisolve? And nothing is addressed about it? Writers are hacks.
>>
>>107611825
Seems to have only melted the cleaning, probably not as powerful as it’s comic version.
>>
>>107611870
Eh, it can be handwaved as a prototype that's not at full power yet.
>>
>>107611306
She's kind of like, a co-CEO. Her role is to keep Glomgold from ruining the company to get back at Scrooge as he does, literally every day.
So she's kinda like a checks and balance system to Glomgolds insanity to help keep the company from running itself into the ground.
>>
>>107611357
Jesus, Beaks could easily rob the money bin if he wanted to.

>>
>>107611306
She probably got officially demoted to COO after Glomgold came back, but her real job is to babysit him and make sure he doesn't lose too much of the company's money or tank the company's reputation too hard going after Scrooge.

Luckily nothing, since Scrooge and the others managed to contain the whole thing. But what nearly happened? The planet was about to get destroyed just because Scrooge dumped a jar of universal solvent on the ground.
That shit was the most terrifying thing Gyro ever invented, IMO. It dissolves everything it touches except diamonds, which makes it's extremely dangerous stuff to handle and impossible to destroy.

So yeah, after thinking about it I'm not really fond of the show's direction with Glomgold. See, in the comics and Last Ducktales his role was being Scrooge if he never tried to make his "fortune." A worthy rival. Here he's more or less some playmate of Scrooge who he lets mess with him when bored. It doesn't help that already know his VA from playing Lord Hater. I know this show isn't really trying to take itself seriously, but did we need to make Glomgold like that when we have Mark Beaks for the "silly, not that threatening business rival"?

I also have the impression the showrunners don't really now what to do with Donald, considering how quick they were to write him out once Della got back on the scene.
>>

Counter Point
Donald was literally only in the comics and OG ducktales because he was a recognizable character whom kids would say, "HEY LOOK MA IT'S DONALD!" and attempt to get their parents to buy them the latest comic/let them watch the latest episode.
It's not a bad thing that the show is going in another direction attempting to make every character BUT the one of the three main disney cast be unique and likable outside of the trait of, "they know donald duck".
>>
>>107622015
He was used well in the pilot, the Gladstone episode and the 3 Caballeros episode (which are pretty much his only major appearances in adventures).
>>
>>107610980
>>107614188
Finally, he can top Graves in bed!
>>
>>107622074
They could have just shipped off Donald to the navy if they didn't want to use him rather than use him as a selling point and having him be one of the five main characters of the opening.

I still don't understand why the fuck can't the writers just use him more? They clearly like him since every character sucks his dick nonstop the few times he gets to be relevant, he was the most competent person in the S1 finale and he looks like the greatest parent that has ever existed compared to Scrooge and Dell but he spent nearly all the first season in the background of Scrooge's mansion because he didn't like adventuring but even after getting over that in the S1 finale he is now getting less screentime than Glomgold.
>>
>>107622165
The pilot was really great in general and unfortunate that they screwed up the Caballeros because Donald did his part in that episode
>>
>>107621583
>For Mighty Ducks.
From what I've seen from a few torrents, there isn't a decent recording of any episode anywhere. Really sucks.
>>
>>107622292
Probably because as previous stated, the writers want to give every character an appropriate amount of time to grow as their own character on the screen, and Donald has literally had like 40 years of character development. Plus, shipping him off to the Navy constrains him to never show up in the show.
I don't think it's a "writers have no idea what to do" situation, but more of a "we're trying to make every character as flushed out as possible so they can stand on their own merits rather then be related to donald" type of thing.
but also shipping him off to the moon is weird as fuck and kinda just felt like something that had to happen for the plot to move forward
>>
>>107621618
>bloated cast
You can blame that on the decision to include both Launchpad and Fenton who were both Donald stand-ins (Scrooge's right-hand/muscle).

>>107622015
They are yeah. But they don't really want to obvious.

>>107622074
>Donald was literally only in the comics and OG ducktales because he was a recognizable character whom kids would say, "HEY LOOK MA IT'S DONALD!"
And Launchpad/Fenton's are only here since they were in Vanilla Ducktales as Donald's replacements. Your point?

>It's not a bad thing that the show is going in another direction attempting to make every character BUT the one of the three main disney cast be unique and likable outside of the trait of, "they know donald duck".
You seem to be implying that they can't keep Donald actually relevant and do what you say. Then again, maybe they can't.
>>
>>107622357
They shipped him to the moon to keep the Della Melodrama going. They don't seem able or willing to have both Donald and Della there in Scrooge's home bantering with him and parenting the triplets. Again cast bloat.
>>
>>107622292
>They clearly like him since every character sucks his dick nonstop
Literally the only character who sucks his dick gets it played as a joke
I mean he wouldn't be off the show for most of this season if he was the favorite
>>
>>107622074
>Donald was literally only in the comics and OG ducktales because he was a recognizable character whom kids would say, "HEY LOOK MA IT'S DONALD!" and attempt to get their parents to buy them the latest comic/let them watch the latest episode.
I don’t give a rats ass about the old Ducktales, but do you wanna know why people kept buying the comics after that first hook? Because they actually DID use him, and they did it damn well too. They didn’t “bait” anyone. They took a character, used him to create worthwhile stories, and sold them fair and square, which is more than Nu-Ducktlaes has show themselves to do with him.

>>107622537
They only included Launchpad since he was in Vanilla Ducktales. I can hardly think that Launchpad has shown himself to be integral enough that you can't scrap him for Donald (who in the comics is a pilot himself).

>>107621574
>>107621641
They could parlay and help each other out, Glomgold will get rid of Gizmoduck while Beaks takes care of Scrooge.

>>
>>107623235
made for the 87 show.
>>
>>107623310
Was he added afterwards like Harley Quinn?
>>
>>107623326
No ducktales-onwards characters were added to the comics. There's Ducktales-branded comics where these characters appear, but the wider world of duck comics doesn't have them, which is very noticeable since before Ducktales, everything did get mashed up- so you end up with Mad Madam Mim being allowed to live with Magica deSpell, but Launchpad forbidden from appearing. Probably internal licensings and politics at Disney causing that.
>>
>>107623235
>>107623326
He was an OC from the original Ducktales. I've seen a small number of spinoff comics for that show, but none of the ones I saw had Gizmoduck; just Webby, Launchpad, Beakley and the butler guy. None of these characters managed to stick in the wider world of duck comics, and they only ever appeared in those stories that were specifically Ducktales stories.
According to Inducks, Gizmoduck did appear in a tiny handful of comics; it's just that I never happened to encounter any of them.

Yes they bond over being fans and that no matter how big a beating Darkwing took he always got backup. Drake and Launchpad wanted to fix the movie so it was more like the show and not griddy. In the end Launchpad convinces Drake to do the Darkwing thing for real. So they have an excuse for why Launchpad is gone. Surprisingly the theme song is not played once and Dewey does the perfect cast.

I'd say consistent delivery regardless of his range. Kenny also seems like a fantastic guy to work with, so being personable is probably a huge perk. The same goes for most studio work. Though the thing to really nail it is that he can function and act perfectly within his insane range of voices. A good VA is one who can operate their spectrum with the same level of consistency and on demand. If you're interested in the path to becoming a VA, Dee Bradley Baker's website is a fantastic resource.

He's competent at a lot of things, but it sounded like watching or making movies wasn't one of them. Still, I liked his insistence on mustache-twirling villains.
>>
>>107625595
>>107625639
The only villains confirmed fictional are Megavolt, Quackerjack, Bushroot, and Liquidator. There's an easy way around that.

First, the now criminally insane Jim Starling/Negaduck will steal various experimental technologies, some of which have already been seen on the show (von Drake's rapid plant growth liquid from the Doomsday Vault episode, Gandra Dee's electric handprint from her episode, etc.)

He gives this tech to some small time criminals (perhaps a group of Beagle Boys who've been cut off from the rest of the family for some reason), and they become his gang, the Fearsome Five.
>>
>>107625639
Was Bushroot in any previous DW appearances in this Ducktales show?

He'd be great material for a new DW show

I fucking hated the comics featuring her. The same with all other non Donald Duck/Mickey Mouse Disney-comics besides Br'er Rabbit. Those had a comfy feel to them even if they were pretty repetitive.

Doesn't he live in the same place as DW, with same neighbours (with different personalities of course) and the only reason he didn't put two and two together is because he's too busy murdering squirrels with a chansaw and the usual? Just like DW who's too busy to notice a giant Negaduck flag.

In the comics, the cities are quite close to each other, just a couple towns apart at most. In this story from Disney Comics and Stories #664, "All Creatures Great and Small," Donald needs to recover a lost ape for a pet store, and this involves driving from Duckburg to St. Canard, which is accomplished very quickly.
>>
I don't think we will ever get a full Darkwing Duck reboot series.
But I could see 2 or 3 Darkwing Duck episodes sneak into each seasons going forward.
By Season 6, after reintroducing the Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop, and TaleSpin, DuckTales would basically become the "Disney Afternoon" show, alternating between all of them.
>>
>>107625789
>The theme tune cameo

This fucking episode had everything, didn't it?
>>
Negaduck being a has-been TV actor who's desperate to be back in the public spotlight again could be the reason why he's obsessed with being Public Enemy #1, like he was in the old show.
>>
>>107625505
That does raise the question of why Starling's suit wasn't originally purple.

Chris Diamantopoulos can pull off a great DW voice. The fact that he can also sound much softer as Drake actually could make the Civilian/superhero dynamic work pretty well in a possible spinoff

Although it'd be weird having a DW that isn't as arrogant. The fact DW had an ego but tended to overcome it was a big part of the show.
>>

I'm a little shocked how close I was to guessing how they would introduce Drake Mallard/Real Darkwing into the show.

My guess what that Drake would be a S.H.U.S.H. washout to explain his combat experience, but I guess what they're explaining that by saying he took martial arts lessons to prepare for the role.

I had also guessed that Scrooge would fund him like he does with Gizmoduck. A small time actor doesn't seem like someone who could afford to have a secret headquarters carved into the side of a bridge.

I love they were pretty clear to show how resistant to pain both Dakrwings were. Gives hope that a possible spinoff wouldn't shy away of Drake getting hurt.

Hard slapstick is hard to come by in cartoons these days and a new Darkwing Duck show'd be weird without it.
>>
>>107625028
Seem they wanna push the new show Amphibia as the big summer cartoon.
>>
>>107626110
drake got exploded, had a piano dropped on him and was zapped multiple times.in this so I think they could do it for its own show
>>
Considering this version of Darkwing's origin is much more rooted in Ducktales lore than the previous version, do you think other Darkwing Duck characters may have connections to Ducktales characters?

Magica DeSpell and Morgana Macabre seem like they should know each other. Rival witch families?

I could see them connecting Stegmutt's origin to Bubba the Caveduck if they want to introduce the entire Justice Ducks team.

I still believe they might reveal that Scrooge's board of directors is actually F.O.W.L. High Command.

I liked how they both were terrified of breaking any of the Darkwing collectible items, and how they kept halting their fight just to make sure those things won't accidentally suffer any damage. Both of them were too big fans to use those things as weapons or consider even threatening to break them, which was something I haven't seen a lot before. Usually in cartoons, those kinds of priceless items tend to get destroyed for the sake of a joke.
The way they were next seen playing with their toys was kind of cute too. I liked how they bonded over their mutual fondness for DW, but both of them were nervous and awkward around the guy himself.

>>
>>107626441
Has this situation happened elsewhere? The original hero goes evil, so the fanboy/sidekick is forced to take the mantle and reluctantly fight the guy who inspired them? It seems like an obvious way to introduce a new replacement for an existing character, but I'm having trouble thinking of other instances.
Considering how much people hated the Kyle/Hal/Parallax origins, I think it's not done too often because fans tend to get pissed off. They don't want to see their favourite heroes derailed like that, and it can also make them hate the new character by association. So it's more common to see a fanboy just having a friendly team-up with their hero like >>107626721

Making an evil version of Darkwing works here a bit better since there already was an evil version of him, and the episode gave him a decent origin story.

>>
>>107625257
That was pretty fucking great. The general quality of this show has noticeably improved since the first season, from the animation to the writing, but this one really blew me away.

I expected them to pull the actor becoming his character in real life trope, so I'm not really surprised that Darkwing is here to stay, but I really didn't see that twist with Starling and Negaduck coming. And the cinematography in this episode holds up pretty well, so does the Gizmoduck intro from yesterday's ep. I really think they can make more superhero stories work with this style. Now let's hope Paperinik/Duck avenger/Powerduck will join the gang some time in the future.

Overall that was a pretty great batch of episodes. I'm still waiting to see how they'll handle the whole Donald on the moon arc but I'm more hopeful about it than I was a week before.
