This was really, really bad
>>107026300maybe you're just a pleb.
I found it "okay" it's a more visceral version of what equates to an mcu movie.I do like that this feels like the youngest of the three hellboys that we have had so far.My biggest issue really comes down that this feels like a sequel to a film that was never made. There felt like there was a whole other movie with Hellboy and Baba Yaga
>>107026300>No GuillermoBiggest fuckup since Pacific Rim, actually might be a bigger fuckup...
>>107026322Watch the movie and tell me with a straight face that the fight between Hellboy and the three giants is "kino" or even passable.
>>107026498>Already having to spar with Shazam right off the bat, and then having to buried by Endgame a week laterDefinitely a bigger fuckup. Who in their right mind thought that release date was a good idea!? I've already given up hope for a proper Hellboy sequel.
>>107026486why do the movies always make him so embarrassingly infantile? i know in the comics he ages slower, so technically has a teenage mind, but he doesn't act like it so much.why are they so incapable of getting his personality right? do the think that's what audiences want?
>>107026300i still feel like i havent seen any proper reason why this movie is bad.everytime i see someone mention about it and say how bad it is, its mostly because they just hate it since its not ron pearlman and del taco behind the movie.
>>107026661It looks and sounds like a parody of the comics.Do I need to pull up the Lobster Johnson credits scene?
>>107026300Mignola sold the fuck out.
>>107026661Have you watched it? If you have and you still think it's good you're a lost cause.
>>107026661It's one of those rare moments where the critics were actually right and summed up all you need to know about the movie. Watch it if you don't believe.
>>107026661i got a cringe overload from the opening narration alone>it was the FUCKIN Dark Ages>she was an evil FUCKIN witch>and here's King Arthur - yeah, THAT King Arthur
>>107026660The daddy issues/"you're not my real dad!" bullshit made me laugh at least. It was so unintentionally bad.
Gruagach was amazing but not enough to be a saving grace. His constant swearing, spotty cgi, random death and smaller version were all annoying. I didn't really like anything else besides maybe baba yaga and her hut. If you have some extra money the artbook and its concepts are much better than the actual movie.
>>107026660>>107026486>I do like that this feels like the youngest of the three hellboys that we have had so far.> i know in the comics he ages slower, so technically has a teenage mind,NO.NO HE FUCKING ISNT.HE ISNT SUPPOSED TO BE "YOUNG" OR "INFANTILE".HE'S A FUCKING DEPRESSED BLUE COLLAR DOWN TO EARTH EVERYMAN. HE'S BASED OFF MIGNOLAS FUCKING FATHER. HE ISNT A FUCKING TEENAGER, HE DOESNT FUCKING T-POSE AND FUCKING SCREAM AT THE CAMERA.GOD DAMMIT YOU FUCKING FAGGOTS READ THE GOD DAMN COMIC
>>107026737Be careful anon, the "HIS NAME IS THE LOBSTER YOU DONT READ COMICS" retard might be lurking here.
>>107026885even though the film was bad, directors, artists and writers are allowed to explore characters in their own ways. Quit being such a gatekeeping REEEEEing faggot. You're not special for reading cartoons.
>>107026885that's what I said retard, he doesn't act like a teenager in the comic DESPITE the ageing thing. that's what makes them good.
>>107026894Are you that retard who was screencapping wikipedia and then later vandalized the lobster johnson wikipedia page because you were so butthurt?
>>107026934And there he is.
>>107026885legendary AF post t-b-h.even demons have demons.
>>107026962I'm not, you paranoid retard. You're just being a faggot.
>>107026885Are you illiterate?
>>107026975>knows exactly what i'm talking about from one specific instance>i-its not me!Do your job and correct the "lobster johnson" anon. Go on, say the word!
>>107026988I remembered it because you were a sperg and edited the wikipedia page after you sperged out.
>>107026934Holy shit, based
there was so much obnoxious rock music in this.
>>107027023>HURR HELLMAN METAL AF>Am I right, fellow kids?
Call the sequel "Hellboy II: Hell in a Handbasket".
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6esXJEMK9E>*T-Poses in your general direction*>[Incoherent Retard Screeching]Ah yes, this is truly Hellboy manifest.
>>107026300It was a big "fuck you"
>>107027112wait, was that pose on purpose?
>>107027175Knowing hollywood executives?Yes.
>>107027184But in that case Mignola's just made himself look stupid. Hardly a fuck you to GTD.
>>107026300>Notre Dame burns down just as this flopsCoincidence?
>>107027158At least, i got that vibe. It feel like a pieces of narrative loosely put it together, with reference to the original comic but with big obnoxious moments of music and jokes that feel underwhelming. And not all the gore of the world or the "fucks" in the dialogue is going to save the movie. I mean, it's okey if people like it, but for me it really feel like a "fuck you".
>>107027184No, i don't. But the scene between Baba Yaga and Hellboy feel straight of the original movies. It remind me of a better movie, and that's a bad sign.
>>107026498>>107027184Seriously, what is it about the Del Toro A.K.A the "a little to liberal" creature fucker's vision that other filmmakers don't seem to have? Dude's created tons of monster kino for /co/ and /tv/ to enjoy and drool over. It's practically ridiculous how much there is.
>>107027112Why does hellboy sound like he's mumbling most the time
>>10702744330 pounds of facial prosthetics.
>>107027417but Amphibians dont have scales.
>>107027417It all boils down to him being really passionate about his stuff. He doesn't do stuff he's not a fan of first and foremost (even the Hobbit), and his vision of an actual fan of these movies are what allow him to produce all this awesome shit, it's a labor of love. Also, he's been #punished by the industry, which made him become a bit of a realist and plan his steps ahead (which I guess started paying off now with Shape of Water). Think of him like Grant Morrison, in that he's not a mainstream filmmaker, but an auteur who really likes mainstream stuff (or knows how to work the mainstream in his favor).
>>107027112Isn't that meant to be a Jesus pose or something?
>>107026885calm down buddy
>>107026300The characters were mostly fine. I'd go see a movie with this Hellboy, Alice and Damio. The problem was the plot.
And in my opinion, it is gorgeous and awesome. Guro at maximum power with weighing eyes, guts, tearing bodies into pieces, cutting faces. Its very juicy, Deadpool nervously smokes on the sidelines. There are drive rock metal soundtrack, demons, witches, intercourse of the first and second, a bunch of all sorts of creatures, fiery swords. This is what people wanted see in the Doom movie, and not this urine with Rock. For normie, of course, too cruel. Basedboys will look shit about a schoolboy man.
>>107027622>It's good because i'm 13 years old
>>107027622I don't know what's worse, that you're this dumb in the first place or that you started pretending to be to shit on imagined crowds of normies and basedboys that only exist in your head.
>>107026300>overrated comic book series can't create a single interesting or actually good movie
>>107027622>Guro at maximum power with weighing eyeswh>Its very juicy, Deadpool nervously smokes on the sidelinesuh?>intercourse of the first and secondthe fuck...>not this urine with Rock. For normie, of course, too cruel. Basedboys will look shit about a schoolboy man.Are you okay? ESL?>Urine, Guro, Intercourse.Oh. Oh no you jacked off to this. Oh....
>>107027713But theres 4 good Hellboy movies.
I didn't think /co/ are so onions. You probably can't even into OVA old anime.
>>107027493>Morrison>Not mainstreamYeah, right.
>>107027808>off topic anime on /co/Better get ready frend because... HE DOES IT FOR FREE
>>107027831He is mainstream because he works in the mainstream but his work isn't necessarily mainstream. Invisibles for instance is borderline "college comics" in that it's just a guy wanking it to how cool he is or how JLA is just him trying to write a mythology for himself. He's just another guy obsessing about his obsessions, but his obsession is "DC superheroes"
>>107027100I like it how ALL the fucking songs have 'devil' in in the lyrics.
>>107027890Why is this so funny to me, kek.
>>107027493I rewatched the first Hellboy last night and even with the studio-forced love triangle the movie oozes soul. You can see in a lot of scenes where Del Toro visually references the comics, like how he recreates the floating crown or the prevalence of the gothic sculptures Mignola's so fond of.
>>107027443His entire lower jaw is prosthetic, Harbour could barely open his mouth.
>>107027859True cartoonfag loves all kinds of animation.
>>107027493I wanted to see his version of At The Mountains of Madness even if it turned out to be bad. I'm curious to see how he was planning to make that movie.
I rewatched Hellboy II last night just to wash the bad taste off my eyes and holy shit is it good. Yes, it deviates a LOT from the comics but it has its own identity and the design of everything, creatures, sets and all is fantastic. It's a great advantage they didn't straight adapt any of the stories and just went with the general idea of magical creatures dying out and them trying a last ditch pushback against humans (you know, same as the new movie, except done right). I'm convinced that it'd have done great financially if it had come out this year.
>>107027861He spent years working on Batman and JLA, he did a long run in Superman, he did The Flash, he's now doing Green Lantern, he wrote two Wonder Woman volumes for Earth One and when he was in Marvel he did X-Men. His non-mainstream work is the exception, not the rule.
>>107027622>This is what people wanted see in the Doom movie, and not this urine with Rock.what
>>107027493>Think of him like Grant Morrison, in that he's not a mainstream filmmaker, but an auteur who really likes mainstream stuffWhat?
>>107027255damn, mike's pretty upset.
>>107027916>madman Del Toro somehow found a way to work in the John Byrne catchphrase bullshit without it feeling forced or weirdHow did he do it.
>>107028009I know there was a Doom movie, even if it has nothing to do with fucking Hellboy other than the general demons theme. I'm just confused by your strange grasp of the English language.
>>107027984I don't disagree with you but what you said doesn't really contradict me either. The man works inside the mainstream, so he's obviously a mainstream author, but the way he's working within it sugests it's on his terms, which separates him from most other mainstream authors, and he's similar to Del Toro in that. Consider his Batman run for instance, where editorial simply let him ignore a company-wide event because it's far more interesting for DC to have him on Batman than to piss him off (and he's unlike Del Toro at that, or at least was, I guess GDT has enough clout to make studios bend to him now).
What did Marshall mean by this scene?
>>107027622Anon, I hope for your own sake you’re high.
It was too quippy and the daddy issues stuff was forced but I liked seeing a more direct adaptation of the comics and the action adventure was good. Gruagach was great.I didn't like how Harbour played it, which is why scenes like the after-credits with Lobster Johnson are so bad.
>>107027622Which was your favourite scene, my friend? I was partial to the floating shit-dad myself. Such an emotional punch.
>>107028054I just took issue with you saying that they were not mainstream, when both are, specially Morrison that has even written something like Final Crisis. Of course he's not an empty carcass like Johns, but he isn't Alan Moore either. And the same goes for Del Toro. You don't get the budgets he works with and an Oscar if you're not mainstream.
>>107026885You're like this in every thread and it's incredibly embarrassing.
>>107026300>YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD: The MovieAre the comics like this? was going to give 'em a try but I'm mot so sure now...
>>107027955I'll never understand the logic behind why they canned this. Toro has proven again and again that whatever monster franchise he touches turns to gold. Seriously, what is with the movie industries boner for romance/comedy?
>>107028130Not "traditionally mainstream" would suit you better? And I guess it's about budgets (in Del Toro's case) and properties (in Morrison's case), they really need those things only "the mainstream" can provide, but they also get (or demand) a liberty very few people in the industry usually get.
>>107028127Fight with giants, according to the canons of the God of WarBaba Yaga kiss
>>107028015Damn I forgot about that
>>107028157Hell no. Hellboy and the professor have a great relationship.
>>107028157do u think the Lobster wud've save anne
The First Trilogy was better and you know it.
>>107026885Anon you know /co/ don't read Comics. They watch Cinematic movies.
>>107027955>>107028165From what I heard, he's in talks about it with Legendary right now, but if this falls through, he said he's going to give up on it
Why did Mike do it?
>>107029995He tried to summon a demon to kill the critics.
>>107026611That was one of the few scenes i enjoyed
>>107029581Cala a boca filho da puta
>>107027622Are...are you ok anon? Are you having a seizure?
>>107026644It's how they justify not paying residuals.
>>107026300I thought it would be bad in a good sort of way but it's not. It's just bad. When it opened up with an f-bomb I knew I had wasted my money.
