Should Lex Luthor have an ideological reason for hating Superman like Muh Aliens, Muh you hold humanity back, muh gods, or muh hair? Or is it enough that Lex Luthor wants power, and Superman is the biggest obstacle in his way?
>>
>>105860866
He can dress it up however he likes. But his reason for hating Superman is always going to be the same:pettiness.

Superman is powerful and humble. Lex is weak and petty. It’s why they’re a better match than Joker and Batman.
>>
>>105860866
I like how Johns and Morrison do it. A man all about personal ego with decepting even himself into thinking it's all about saving humanity from people like Superman.
>>
>>105860866
He should hate him both on an ideological level and on a personal level. Which came first, if one affected the other, and so on are all dependant on the writer.
>>
Luthor wants power, Superman is something he cannot attain.

Frustration over the idea of the Uber mensch.
>>
>>105860866
He is a petty bald fuck with a tiny penis and a huge ego, he doesn't need any ideological reasons, it's terrible when some morons actually believe Lex is some kind of anti-hero or tragic character.
>>105861230
There's literally nothing about the ubermensch in Luthor's character, he isn't Batman
>>
>>105861305
Yes there is, a twisted interpretation but still.
>>
>>105861034
>better match than Joker and Batman.
That's a low bar.
>>
>>105861349
>a twisted interpretation but still.
There's nothing, just because you are extremely ignorant about Nietzsche doesn't mean fucking lex as a character has anything to do with the ubermensch, lex is just megalomaniac and evil. Not a single writer has had megalomania Nietzsche in mind when writing lex, trying to make the character more interesting by trying to slap mainstream philosophical concept on him is a waste of time, especially when the every casual resambleance, especially morally is just result of Lex being a caricature of old school psychopathy
>>
>>105861034
It's not better, just different. Some people don't like how Superman is basically without flaws in the relationship. Superman is morally right in every way and never needs to stray from it. Lex is always just being a dick and its never a big deal for superman to grab Lex and jail him. Batman and Joker is more nuanced. Joker is much more of a sick puppy than Lex and Batman faces a moral dilemma by not ending him on every occasion they met.

Have you noticed how a lot of in the last few years were focused on bringing Superman down and making him suffer? Stuff like BvS and Injustice. Those are stories that try to take the moral intricacies that Batman has and apply them to Superman.
>>
>>105861424
And how many writers have had Lex's motivation be tied to the size of his genitals, as you so boldly claimed?
>>
>>105860866
Lex is super smart. Why doens't he just cure his baldness?
>>
>>105861519
Oh no!, the lexfag got mad that his self-insert has a tiny dick, i bet you got triggered by Lex in BvS not being "sexy and suave" as DCAUfaggots and CWfangirls usually prefer him.

Also, you still don't know shit about Nietzsche.
>>
>>105861560
It's super-baldness. In the DC universe if you cure cancer using super-science or magic it get replaced by super-cancer or magic-cancer
>>
>>105861614
Are you just an SJW who got upset because someone mentioned something that's often prevalent in white supremist circles?
>>
He should hate Superman because he blames him for his baldness
>>
>>105861560
Because he doesn't care. Hell there is one what-if story where the entire El family survives and comes to Earth, and Lex Luthor works for Jor-El and cures baldness which he gets awards for, but Lex gets butthurt of all the scientific achievements he's made only his hair formula gets recognition to he becomes a supervillain and shaves his head.
>>
>>105860866
Lex Luthor Man of Steel was a god tier book. So that.
>>
>>105861732
So you admit having never read Nietzsche. And just memeing . Now you are calling me a fucking SJW because i called you on your bullshit, nice try.
>>
>>105861757
that's badass
>>
>>105861936
No, are you fucking retarded?

I never read that stuff and didn't claim to. I'm not even the same guy who brought that up. Sorry if you feel I should have to mention that immediately. I surmised you were SJW because of how you sperged about ubermensh. Not just disagreed but actually got angry. This in conjunction with bringing up penis size twice gave me a hunch that you were one of those people. You're something of a cunt either way.
>>
>>105861625
>super-baldness

No, that's when you're so bald that the light reflecting off you blinds everyone in your vicinity. Like King Neptune in that one scene from the SpongeBob movie.

Posting this again in this thread. I'm recommending a fanfic. Not mine. Explores Luthor's motivations in a way that doesn't make Luthor seem like a whiny teenager.

assuming that Lex is not hurting innocent people, isn't Lex automatically better than Clark in every way?
this entire conversation seems pedantic
evil or not, if Lex is not hurting innocents, then its better for Superman to be dead, because Lex can do far more for humanity than a flying brick
I'm always kind of irritated by the 'oh he isn't a nice person' like that somehow one of the countless factors that matter
>>
>>105861936
I was the one you originally answered to.

Luthor is an image of the Ubermensch. Throwing a tantrum about it not being a case won't change anything.

The character is literally about a will to power taken to a wrong turn. And when he finds himself before what he cannot achieve be cause of his human nature but also because of his own person he becomes autistic about destroying it.
>>
>>105860866
Lex Luthor is just an egotist, he's only pissed that people are looking up to Superman and not him.

The "holding humanity back" stuff is just a bullshit justification he's invented in his head.

>because Lex can do far more for humanity than a flying brick
Superman has saved the Earth countless times. Without Superman, everyone on Earth would be dead, including Luthor himself. I'd say that keeping humanity from going extinct is pretty damn useful.
And if Luthor truly wants to help humanity, why would Superman need to be dead in order for him to do so?
>>
>>105862368
Superman has literally saved the world multiple time.

Also even when Superman has been 'gone' Lex doesn't do all the shit he claims he would if Superman is gone.

He'd rather sell a treatment to diseases than a cure, because holding it back makes him more money.
>>
>>105862376
Third guy, the other lad is clearly sperging out. While not DIRECTLY nietzschean, Lex is very much similar to Rhaskolnikov (as you pointed out, as "will to power taking a wrong turn), and that type of Icarus was very much something NIetzsche was interested in, that guy who ALMOST gets there but is still tied up by his resentment
>>
>>105862434
If anything, having a fying brick that can punch shit away should clear a lot of free time to the special bald genius who can save everyone.

I like the idea that Lex tries to gussy it up as some sort of ideological thing, and maybe even deludes himself into believing it's so, but ultimately it's just Lex taking things overly personal and he's a petty prick.

Literally what? Superman has saved the world and the universe multiple times

>Or is it enough that Lex Luthor wants power, and Superman is the biggest obstacle in his way?

In what way Superman is an obstacle? All Luther has to do is use his brain for something that isn't giant kryptonite robots or doomsday space lasers, and he'd surpass Superman real quick.
>>
>>105862773
>In what way Superman is an obstacle?
Stops him from taking power.
>>
>>105862773
If superman has even a single person praising him instead of Lex then Lex gets pissy and throws a tantrum
>>
>>105862784
But he doesn't. Lex became fucking president and was doing deals with Darkseid and Kal didn't do anything about it.

Lex looks like he needs to poop but can't.
>>
>>105860866
Yes he needs a reason for the conflict because otherwise he's smart enough to just avoid ever antagonizing Superman. He'd just use him forever without the need to prove him wrong.
