Why does this show have such a hard time finding a larger audience? Is it because of the shitty first half of Season 1 and the shitty first half of Season 2? Didn't seem to stop Clone Wars which had some really terrible episodes.
>>
Because it is French.
>>
>>105244094
Because it's dub sucks, if it had a good one people would have come flocking to it
>>
>>105244094
It's probably because it took them almost 3 seasons to finally get English VAs, and they were trash.

But the french is fine. Do people really have such a problem with reading subs?
>>
Was Ruel sounding like Yoda and Seasame Street Grover mix done on purpose?
>>
>>105244172
Personally I don't, but almost every single other person I know who watches cartoons hates dubs. I suppose I'm just a fast reader, as their stated reason was that they miss everything happening because they're reading.
>>
>>105244281
What the hell.
I also just realize that this might actually be the main reason for anime becoming mainstream lately since every show is getting dubs now. Now I hate dubs even more. How the fuck can people even be unable to read fast enough to enjoy subbed shows?

>anime becoming mainstream lately
Anon, it was more mainstream in the 2000s than it is now. I'm not saying it's not still mainstream, but the anime boom happened all the way back in the mid-90s (even earlier in parts of Europe), and hit its peak long ago
>>
>>105244923
You are kinda right, but it was more of a subculture back then whereas it's more of a casual thing right now. People barely watch it, but everyone watches one or two a year or so series nonetheless, making anime more mainstreamy to some degree despite not being actual mainstream. It's the fanbase that has changed completely and most anime threads on /a/ are slow as fuck nowadays because the audience has shifted.
Anyway, still weird how much of a problem subs are nowadays. With internet and chats becoming a daily thing you'd expect people to be fast readers now.

Ankama is fucking brain dead when it comes to advertising. Hardly anyone outside of France/adjacent countries even knew it existed. Also it didn't help that they either hire incompetent people and/or refuse to give them proper resources to advertise their brand.

Age Yugo for gods sake its turning into a depressing mess. Your friends are growing up having kids THEIR KIDS ARE GETTING OLDER THAN YOU
>>
>>105244094
Season 2 and up suck! As does the Dofus movie
>>
>>105246689
Season 3 is good and I don't care. It definitely feels rushed due to not all the demigods getting their screen time, but the shorter season made everything feel more impactful and kept the series from wandering. Seasons 1 and 2 should have been 13 episodes long as well.
>>
>>105244172
>reading while trying to take in a visual medium
people who watch with subs are literal retards
>>
>>105246657
Yugo is for suffering
>>
>>105244094
I'd say the big two things going against it is the art style and the way it can't seem to make up its mind about what sort of show it wants to be in seasons 1 and 2. I've had friends who expressed interest who stopped watching after a few episodes because of how childish it can get. And now the cast has added not one, not two, but three young children to it, which are never popular with audiences. Giving in to the networks demand that Yugo not age but then trying to turn it into a plot point was dumb and sort of goes back to what I said about how they don't know what they want this show to be about. Also to make room for the three new Scrappies two characters who have been around since day one have basically been shelved. They made Grovy way too damn special. The English dub is awful. I don't know, I enjoyed Wakfu for what it was but it definitely feels like a poor man's ATLA.

>Season 2 sucked
Remington was cool.
>>
>>105244094
The dub sucked and came years late at that.
>>
>>105247954
You learn to do both, anon.
>>
Because it looks like waifubait which makes me think the actual story is weak. Maybe it's not but that's the impression I got. Animation is also pretty stiff.
>>
>>105244172
I like the french and watched the whole thing subbed, but the audience at large will simply turn it off. Same reason foreign films can struggle here, they can be a masterpiece but the audience doesn't want to have to work for it.

The first season was great but I had trouble finding subs by the time the hype had ended. The second season had fucking long ass arcs I gave no fucks about (soccer fuck you soccer fuck you).

The movies and third season I'm going to pretend don't exist.

>The movies
You mean the OVAs?

The Dofus movie is great.

There is one further issue with the subs for this compared to say japanese. French has a rather quick cadence, and I know many people personally who can't watch this show because the french subs go too fast for them. They even say they like the show for the most part, but just can't keep up.

>>
>>105244094
