>The fundamental problem is that Jane Foster is Marvel's best Thor, and there's no way the Odinson can take her place again.
>She's an ordinary human being, one who has lived in the realm of gods, and yet now walks among them. Jane has been challenged every step of the way; the gods haven't taken kindly to the female Thor, and she's even wound up dueling Odin himself.
>Most remarkable of all, Jane's very humanity has allowed her to tap into Mjolnir in a way even the Odinson never has. She alone learned the secret of the God Storm that lies deep within Mjolnir, granting the hammer its incredible power. In Jane's hands, Mjolnir is no mere weapon; it is an ally in its own right.

>Marvel's best Thor
I like how he we're keep being told this and everyone jobs to her so that she looks good. She's the most perfect character ever, has no flaws, and she has cancer so that makes her even more special because she's fighting that as well as evil from all dimensions.

All this did was remind me how much I loved Eric Masterson. Jane really was just a poor man's Eric Masterson, with the only sticking point being "oh, but Jane is a WOMAN." Other than that, everything she did, Eric already did but better. Eric's Absorbing Man/Titania issue? Great. Jane's? Shit. Leader of Asgard not liking him because he's not the real Thor? Eric's had some nuance to it while Jane's was basically just "everyone loves her but Odin, and Odin's motivation for not liking her sucks." It's weird because looking back, there's actually a lot of very specific plot beats that both of them hit, and in almost every case, Eric's run handled it way better.

Like, there's the ticking clock with her cancer and her being Thor potentially leading to her death from it, but even THAT was already done with Masterson. He didn't have cancer, sure, but really early on there was the prophecy that being Thor would lead to his death. And, sure enough, his series ultimately ended with him sacrificing himself as Thunderstrike.

Now, mind you, I actually think that Jane's run as Thor isn't that bad. It gets way more shit than it deserved, but likewise, it got way more praise than it deserved too. It was basically just a worse version of Eric's run, held up by how beautiful the art was. But then, Eric's run as Thor is some of the best post-Simonson Thor comics, so "worse than Masterson Thor" doesn't necessarily mean bad.
>>
Wouldn't she stop dying of cancer if she just took Thor's offer of help to magically cure it? Wouldn't she be not dying of cancer if she went through her chemo instead of blowing it off and putting her life at risk just to be a superhero?
>>
Giving Jane powers wasn’t a bad idea, just the powerset they gave her. She was only “Thor” because of branding.
>>
>>105236808
Actually she was taking chemo. It’s just that Mjolnir kept undoing her treatments. So yeah, Jane wasn’t really fighting cancer, and was a complete idiot
>>
>>105236541
I would've prefered if her identity had stayed a mystery. I found Woman Thor's character interactions and method solving interesting compared to Thor's more direct approach, which I also like.

making her a dying Jane Foster felt like a copout to me. it just confirmed that she would just die soon and give the hammer back.

there's like 100 magic users and another 50 "worlds smartest" characters in Marvel that everyone in that universe knows about that could instantly remove her cancer, its hard to take this shit seriously when it gets dramatic.
>>
>>105236841
thats stupid
why would it do that?
>>
>>105236541
jane fosters dead bro
>>
>>105236541
Is there even one (besides OP) comic reader who remembers Jane Thor?
She's faded now, like a bad dream, and everyone should forget she existed.
>>
>>105236644
Yes, no, yes. She's now in Asgard taking her cancer treatment among the Valkyries and whatnot. No, not Asgardian medicine, regular, Earth-based medicine.
>>
>>105239671
but i like her
>>
>>105239107
Writer inspired stupidity and/or editorial mandate. Marvel wanted a way to reset to status quo, especially if that status quo involves movie synergy. Whor may have got some attention but it was never more than a publicity stunt in the end and MCU Jane Foster never clicked with audiences. Meanwhile, Jason Aaron is stuck on the idea that magic always has costs, hence the shitty retcon.
>>
>>105236541
She's barely a character, and a terrible one at that.

I want her to die already.
>>
>>105240834
The problem is that if turning into Thor resets the chemo, then all Jane would need to do is get additional chemo when reverts to human. Or she could just always stay Thor.
>>
>>105236541
>Doesn’t sell
>ShES tHe BEst ThOR EvER
>>
>>105241053
The stay Whor thing was made out to be a death sentence if she ever changed back. She intentionally kept the side effects secret so that anyone with an once of morality wouldn't stop her from sabotaging her own chemo for a hit of Thor's power. They were basically glorifying a drug addict.
>>
>>105241332
Except by staying Thor she'd never die from cancer as long as she never turned back, and considering her turning into Thor basically just turned her into the fitness model version of herself, where is bad?
>>
>>105241428
It would of been ok if there was a story where the hammer was stolen and she was forced to stay as jane and we just see her spiral down like an addict
>>

>Jane Foster is Marvel's best Thor, and there's no way the Odinson can take her place again.
This would be hilarious if Marvel didn't think like that too
>>
>>105236714
Oh, she's not the most perfect.

She's not America Chavez. Hell, she's not even Carol.

I mean, I largely agree with you, I just think that Carolpushing and America are even more stupid.

>>105241870
Anon, Jane's been effectively dead for like a year now.

>>105241909
No? She didn't die. Did you even read those issues?

wait did the death stick ?
I remember her dying then dabbing on Ondins at Valhalla's door
Is she actually dead now ?

No one made any celebration threads so I imagine she is alive. She was resurrected in her final issue. Still has cancer. Still looks like a holocaust survivor/crack whore.

yup

Her in Valhalla (traditionaly a male space) would have completed the arc nicely (sincce entering Valhalla in not a matter of gender but of worth).
But htey dropped the ball as always
>>
>>105236541
she's also a giant fucking hypocrite that got addicted to magic but refuses any magic, even any good science to heal her. Dr Strange told her if he came to him earlier he could have used SCIENCE to save her life. But she's a fucking addict who pushed everyone away so she could play god all day.
