Is catfish the best tasting and least expensive fish among the sustainable fishes?
>>
>>12469541
All I know is I love me some fried catfish and sum mustard n biscuits mhmmmm.
>>
>>12469541
Yes. They often gain a reputation as "nigger fish" due to their bottom dwelling nature, the fact they can often be caught shoreside and probably their wide mouth appearance but they are great under certain conditions. First they should be 10-20lbs in size max, bigger cats tend to scavenge whatever the fuck and are less predatory. Second they are better from deeper, salty waters. Basically you don't want a fat neckbeard fish thats been wallowing in 3ft of water eating mud and decaying crap.
>>
Yes catfish farm raised in the US is fine.

Dont buy Tilapia otr that Viet stuff. You are eating their sewet cleaning animals. Enjoy your heavy metals too.
>>
>>12469541
Its okay
>>
Just moved to TN and had catfish for the first time

Absolutely great
>>
>>12469552

Channel cat isn't really worth a shit, but blues and flatheads are excellent eating. Tbh I'd rather eat a walleye or crappy.
>>

thats enough.

>>
>>12469541
Yes, and they'll stay that way as long as nobody blogs about it. Nothing's sacred when it comes to selling "trendy" shit at twelve times its original price.
t. bitter, bitter offalfag
>>
>>12471599
i think this one will remain safe. zoomers and hipsters generally are of the mindset "ewwww fish smelly gross!" and since its traditionally deep fried it won't become some fitness trend either
>>
>>12471461
Get some of that mustard sauce and I'm in
>>
>>12469541
catfish is disgusting
>>
>>12469541
Depends on where you live. River striper and ocean rockfish are both very good. Steelhead is also good and so is trout. Bacalhau is fucking dank but I don't know much about cod populations.

STEP ASIDE FOR CARP. Cheap as shit here and also an invasive species so you're doing good for the environment by eating them.
>>
Stuffed flatfish is an equally cheap, great dish depending on your geographic location.

Great high energy breakfast in congee with some scallions
>>

Fried and serve with fries.
>>
>>12473283
Red braise with tofu. Carp flesh is tender and soft, also soaks up flavors well.
>>
For me it's Herring?
>>
>>12471468
Channels are fine they're actually closely related to Blues but just don't get as big.
>>
>>12473290
Steam it for extreme tenderness.

The only thing I hate is that it usually has very tiny bone fragments in it. Not a ideal breakfast to me.

>The basic red braise base is soy sauce, Chinese rice wine (Shaoxing wine, huangjiu etc.) and rock sugar. Five-spice powder are crucial elements in these dishes but are used in moderation so that their flavors do not overwhelm the main ingredients. Soy sauce (usually a mix of light and dark soy sauce), fermented bean paste, red fermented tofu or rock sugar is commonly used to give an appetising flavor and reddish brown hue to the items being cooked.
You use it to cook meats, for fish you go even lighter on the five-spice and add more ginger and scallions.

Yeah carp is one of the bonier fish but the flesh is so soft you barely need to chew it so it's really easy to feel for the bones imo

Carp is also popular in Eastern/Central Europe.
>>
>>12469541
catfish tastes muddy to me, and salmon is great for you
>>
>>12473247
Carp is insanely underrated in the states. Whenever I suggest eating one everyone turns up their nose. You just put them in clean water for at least 24 hours before cleaning and cooking and it gets rid of any real funk
>>
>>12473292
Well is it or isn't it?

Yeah, they're very easy to clean and if you fishes more than you can eat in one go you can keep them alive in a big tub with goldfish pellets.

Japanese nimono style koi, like red braising but with more sugar and no five-spice or fermented tofu/bean paste. Miso ni has fermented bean paste.
>>
>>12473439
Yamagata also has specialty which is like nimono but you use slices of the whole carp, guts and all. I imagine it only tastes good with carp especially raised for this purpose. The roe is a highlight here.

You can make great Korean Maeun Tang with carp too
>>
>>12473487
But for me, it's the sweet and sour deep fried carp.
>>
Catfish is gross. Bottom feeder, tastes like shit
>>
>>12473493
And my favourite rendition of that is 'squirrel fish' where they cut the carp to look like a pine cone and drizzle with sweet and sour sauce and pine nuts.

You could also leave it in milk or wine raw onions to get rid of the funkiness. The only shitty thing about carp is the amount of bones it has. But luckily the meat is a sponge for flavor
>>
>>12473531
This. But I feel it's worth it for how easy they are to catch and how cheap they are, especially given their taste.

Are you stupid? No one eats fucking catfish sushi.

>>12474413
You are so retarded that it hurts. The post I was replying said zoomers and hipsters don't like fish because it's slimy. It didn't say catfish. Holy shit just kill yourself already
