As a customer or employee
>>
None. I find my grocery store to be a great place, both guests and workers.
>>
>>12328165
Being in large line ups is enough to make me want to shoot up said grocery store. I don’t like black people, so I tend to want to get in and out and home as soon as possible.
>>
>>12328165
I don't go to the grocery store much. I walk down to the local farmers market every saturday and get most of my food there. Occasionally I'll go to the local organic market to get stuff I can't get there. Just the perks of living in a non-flyover city. I feel bad for the rednecks who have to go to Wal Mart every two days to refill their snack cakes and fight opiate addicts for jugs of pop.

you're lucky. grocery stores I go to have annoying ass old people, kids, ebt trash, and lard asses that block whole aisles.
>>
>made eye contact with the other man shopping by himself

Goddamnit.
>>
Do you prep for the whole experience?

It's so basic but nearly everyone fails. I gots me a big bag that I bring...sturdy. No plastic blues. You've got your list (organized by mental picture of said store layout) and then you organize BEFORE checkout in the cart (bulky items first--right, OJ, paper towels, so on--front loaded.) Sauces, cans, bottles, whatever. Napkins. Paper towels. Next are "whatev's" maybe I bought some tortillas or soap or a toothbrush. They fit in easily.

LAST IS PRODUCE--ginger, avocado, bananas, whateverthefuck. Here's where you speed up. The difference here is that you write down or memorize (or scan the PLU when possible/whats the code for rutabaga or celery root). All the while, you're bagging as you go. Bottles first, TP, so on. Tomato juice already in or whatever, Kleenex, all that shit at the bottom. MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE

I forgive old people; for they do not know better. You may be inclined to help them, as I have done many times. "do I push the button now?" I'm glad to see them up and about. But how you gonna act, 37 years old, on a "serious" bluetooth call, fucked up sweatpants, in a self service checkout, needing help on each 3 items....multiplied by 1000?!!!!
>>
>>12328165
The only thing that really annoy me are the people who stand right in front of the shit when looking to see if they want to buy it or blocking an isle with there cart. As in they will go right up to the shelve and block everything else off usually in isles that are "heavy traffic". Also dicks who dump a fucking cart into the fucking express lane like I just want to buy a fucking bottle of wine or some other small shit STOp USING THE FUCKING EXPRESS LANE FOR YOU FUCKING $300 FUCKING DOLLAR PURCHASE GOD FUCKING DAMME. Otherwise I don't really care.
>>
people who plant one of their kids or friends in a check out line while they continue to shop and then they just waltz to the front of a long cue when they are ready because their friend/kid decides to stay at the front and play gatekeeper and only let one person cut them at a time. its one thing if someone is in line with a full cart and they send the other person off to fetch a forgoten item or two otherwise they should only be allowed to commence cueing once they actually have most of their shit in a cart.

also cant stand those faggots who unload their entire cart and forget something so the entire cue has to wait for them to scramble off to get something.
>>
>>12328278
>people who stand right in front of the shit when looking to see if they want to buy it
I do this when I want to compare price per weight. Blame the grocery store for printing that shit tiny and just ask me to move nicely.

>>
People who bring dogs into the grocery store its fucking disgusting.
>>
>>12328165
People who walk beside their carts.
>>
>>12328165
Niggers. Plain amd simple.
There are some decent black employees that will bag shit right and make checlout smooth. But niggers will put like 1 or 2 items per bag. Then you end up with 20 bags for a small grocery trip. This has happened with multiple nigger baggers. I imagine they were new hires though.

Small talk. Shut the fuck up and scan my groceries wagie. Im not your friend.

Crowds. I hate when the store is crowded. Makes me anxious.
>>
Ducking in to grab something quick for lunch and other people just standing dead center of the display with no idea what they want. Just step back until you have an idea what you're going to grab and only get in the way when you're grabbing it.

And stepping out of someone's way only to be stepping in front of what they wanted to grab.

the WORST is when they know they don't have funds, still try to put the card thru, only to have muh decline let me try again, over and over, and eventually whole cart is put aside and they leave. wastes everyones time involved
>>
There's a WinCo on my way home from work and they shut down the self checkout at night when I get off so I'm always stuck waiting for some poor cashing out their gibs. The cashiers are also slow as shit there.
>>
>>12330007
I'm a fellow Winco dweller. Back when I had a secret addiction to oxycontin 10 years ago I would pill up browse the magazine section for a like an hour when I got off work before picking up dinner. Was comfy
>>
>>12328278

YES. My store has a really nice outdoor seating area where people can eat. There's a register by the door leading out to this area that's pretty much meant for people who want to purchase food to go outside. Invariably, there is always that person with 30 different items from produce which is extra annoying because produce is on the opposite side of the store and you pass both the regular checkouts and a bigger section of express checkout just to get to this one.
>>
>>12328165
-Boomers who stand in the aisles and catch up with friends
-Loud annoying black women that always argue with the cashier trying to get over on the store to save 50 cents
-People using motorized scooters because they are fat, not handicap.
-People who don't take their cart to the designated area outside.
-Self-checkout in general. I'm not doing your fucking job for you.

There are spans of time when I'm left alone to service the entire deli counter, which includes cutting meat, preparing sandwiches and cashiering, on most occasions during the lunch rush. It feels like I'm getting pummelled with death stares by the fucking customers waiting to be helped as I scatter to do my best in a timely manner. I don't think a lot of people understand what it's like to work customer service. I think we as a country would be a smarter more empathetic people if each person were assigned non ground military service and at least 3 months customer service. People are so fucking viscous and entitled, it is unreal how Mr rogers' rhetoric of being neighborly ended in vain. Inb4 complaining wageslave.

As a customer and for the brief period I was a cashier, usually it's white women and welfare rats. White women clog the entire aisle and will just stand in a pack with their carts blocking all transit while they "catch up" with eachother acting like they didn't just speak to each other last week. They're also always the coupon motherfuckers who take forever with their shit and then have a tantrum when their 25c yogurt coupon doesn't go through.

Welfare shits just need to die. They always come in wearing their ratty ass pajamas that they never take off, never bathe and buy out all the meat and soda at once with their EBT and anything they can't afford or don't want (how do you go the entire time in the store with shit in your cart and decide at the end you don'y want it?) they'll just leave somewhere in the store or hide in the magazine rack next to the checkout.

Nah I feel that. People are super impatient for their shit, like you should have had it ready before they even showed up. But I mean don’t take it personally, they’re just frustrated and you’re the one behind the counter. Fucking embarrassing when I’m out with someone that chimps out at a waiter/teller/cashier/etc when you know it’s management’s fault if anything most of the time. Why the fuck would you yell at someone behind a deli counter for being alone at lunch? Do you think they told the rest of the staff “relax, I got this” when it hit 12?

Tell me why the fuck I should know where Windex is. And let me tell you something else, You aren't catching me patrolling the store for my own goodwill to help customers, I am leaving my department to venture off to my lunch-break, or maybe even the restroom, I'm holding in a log of shit in my trembling intestines for the sake of imagination-I'm trying to be polite so I go along with you to find the isle the product is on, the isle you should know yourself just by using deductive reasoning: cleaning supplies- isle 9. I had no clue either, but now I can tell you without going into the isle that there is the correct place to find Windex. And guess what retard, isle 9 was 2 feet away from you. Back when I worked retail, what would happen if you just gave someone a direction was that they wouldn't find what they were looking for and 5-10 minutes later they'd come back and be pissed, so what I had to do with customers like you was that I'd give the directions, then wait a minute, and then go find you and ask how it's going and nudge you the right way anyways. So for convenience sake I just show where shit is from the beginning.

Make a list and send a few people out. Do not go out like an insect colony and have people randomly grab shit and throw it in the carts. This is why your card is empty and your bills are shit. Little Tyrone there is just grabbing what he wants and chucking it in cart two out of three.

-Scum of the earth lazy degenerates who leave their carts in a parking space or on a median, and I've never worked at a grocery store. It's just infuriating how fucking lazy that is.

-Self-checkout as a growing replacement for most checkout aisles instead of just express lanes. Most people on average have proven they are too slow to make that work on a larger scale without creating major bottlenecks. In stores that have added more self-checkout kiosks, it's paradoxically becoming quicker on average to hop in line for the manned checkout despite there being less clerks and baggers.

-store literally moves aisles and shelves around and gets rid of the best parking spaces to cater to a shitty curbside grocery delivery service that's clearly not getting used because all the spaces are perpetually empty months after launching. Thanks for moving all your shit around in bizarre groupings where no one can find it on a whim, you stupid Kroger corperate fucks.

I think the store manager hates me.

I buy yogurt but I'm the type of person who checks all the expiration dates and only buys the yogurt with the farthest expiration dates possible.

The store manager must have realized this because he suddenly put the yogurt with the earliest expiration date in front while stuffing the yogurt with the farthest expiration date all the way in the back that it requires you to use your entire arm to reach for the yogurt you want in the back.

I don't understand why the store manager acts like this. I buy my yogurt in bulk once every 2 weeks and the manager wants me to buy yogurt that expires in like 1 week instead of 2 weeks later.

It's not like I only buy one yogurt at a time.

I usually buy 6 to 8 bottles.

must be a really small store if the manager is noticing a single person buying stuff based on expiration dates once every 2 weeks
i buy almost everything based on furthest expiration date but it seems like other people just grab the closest thing to them.

majority of people dont even look at expiration dates anyways, especially if something goes on special.

When something is on sale most people look at the expiration date immediately even if they don't usually look at expiration dates. It makes it far more likely that it doesn't have much life left, obviously, and most people are aware of that.

Losing weight is 90-95% diet you retard. You are seriously overestimating how many calories you burn for standard exercise compared to how many calories you eat from typical American sized meals. Going out on walks or biking to work as weight loss methods are boomer memes, and look at how big they are.

There are some extremely rare disorders that make your body less efficient in absorbing calories in order to put on weight, but there is never a medical reason to be a fat fuck. Now granted if you have something like COPD that makes your life shit regardless of what weight you are then I won't hate you for choosing to be a fat fuck, so long as you know that it is indeed a conscious choice you are making.

But nah, occasionally you get fucking dumbasses buying enough food to feed an army taking their sweet time at self-checkout, not understanding the fact that their incompetent, moronic selves aren’t trained to scan items as fast as the cashiers so they’re wasting both their own time and everyone else’s. Worked prepared foods at Dean & Deluca. We gave out free samples there as a sales method and got the same rude old lady who’d occasionally come in 10 minutes before closing for her before-bed snack, which was several samples from my section without paying for anything. This is when we as employees were already beginning closing duties with the managers’ permission since they take 45 minutes to an hour to finish. She’d come up and ask me to unwrap everything, which I normally wouldn’t care about since the shop was still technically open and customer’s have the right to order food, except for the fact that her cunt ass always talked to me in the nastiest tone and every other time would flag down a manager to complain about me or other workers for the stupidest reasons. Thankfully all the managers recognized her and knew she was a cunt so they never took any action against us over her complaints, and some employees had the balls to straight up fuck with her because they knew any complaints she made wouldn’t affect them, but it still pissed me off that she had the nerve to try and get us to lose our jobs because we didn’t meet her ridiculous expectations for slaving over her free meal.

And no this isn’t a larp. The old white people in that wealthy neighborhood could be so fucking nasty it was almost impossible to hold your tongue, but she was by far the worst.

I've just started my 5th month working in a grocery store deli, and even though we are a lower density/ lower traffic location, it seems that 75% of the total amount of customers which walk through the entrance at the very least stop by to browse our display, or more likely to be waited on. There are times where I just feel so overwhelmed because I have a backlog of 3 customers who are staring me down as I rush to finish with the current customer without feeling pushy or disrespectful. There is a surprising amount of stress despite it being a repetitive, low skill job which can be done in air conditioning.
The few points your made about your time working in the deli resonated with me to a suspicious degree; for one, you mention working with older women, which I do as well. Out of the 4 female coworkers I have, 3 of them are over the age of 45, the oldest teetering on 60. The manager is a middle aged Jamaican woman, and she is exactly how you may imagine- very unpleasant, surveilling, quick to comment on what your doing wrong, awfully keen on trying to find something to snap at, just the type of person you can't be to sure around because of their bi-polar temperament.
Also, there is a resident " weird guy", but I assume he isn't there as proof of wasted potential, but because he may have mental issues and a severe lack of confidence.
More often than not, I find myself peering over to produce, which is across the pond to the deli counter, and I always take note of how loose the workers are, how comfortable they seem. I get envious, I'll confess. They don't have a bitch managers huffing over everything, they don't need to provide rapid fire customer service, they are allowed time to escape to the back of the store and go about work without interacting with people. All of them look so cheery and familial. I tell myself that I'm the one being built up with experience and a tolerance for pressure because I remain here, frustrated and longing.
>>
>>12336508
Honestly I really want to get stuff from the deli but I don't even know how. Like, if I want some cheese, do I ask for so and so cheese in such and such kg or lb or what? Or is everything on display just for display and you have stuff presliced behind the counter? I
>>
Hey grocery store fags, I've been going to the same store for 5 years and I'm probably the only white guy who goes there (I live in an Asian country). I'm moving soon to go back home.
I don't have conversations with the staff but obviously they recognize me and we're polite.
Should I say goodbye, or something? Would that be weird?
>>
>>12336508
Regarding the weird guy, yeah, my guy was really nice, I just always thought "dude wtf did you do with your life to end up in this deli at 70?".

I got lucky when another store of the same company opened up near by, so I they had tons of open spots and I got a place in produce. Are sundays, specifically right before football games start, insanely busy there?
>>
>bogo
>there’s only one item left
>>
>>12336546
You’d have to ask someone from that culture honestly bc the perspective on what’s weird is different to every culture. Maybe casually mention you’re going to a different country soon, probably the best option as a generalized non-culture-specific sort of way

The last store I was a cashier at made me do this because they thought that having stupid conversations with the customers would draw their attention away from the fact that the company was running the store into the ground
Management would run stings just to see if I made a conversation with every single customer and read through the conversation checklist, even if they were just buying a pack of gun.
>>
>>12336810

>>
>>12336842
Well, you said they were running the store into the ground, this is a good example of what not to do. Pretty much anywhere that wants to stay in business is gonna tell you the opposite, don't comment on what the customer buys.

That’s the opposite of Home Depot, oftentimes people would remember they forgot something or relish in their work if you talked to them about it. It was always obvious when someone didn’t want you to talk to them so I would just get quiet after a couple questions.

Unfortunately they had a receipt survey for the cashiers, and they wanted you to point it out every single damn time. This did not make customers consider you as genuinely friendly or worth talking to

I used to work retail. I helped the shit outta people and always them to mention me in the surveys.
My store fucking loved me, until corporate shifted from a customer service focus to a "all as many credit cards as possible with as much extra shit as possible" and suddenly my skills didn't matter anymore.
I'll be looking for a new job soon. I really hope I don't have to go back to retail.

Tried that once. Very, very subpar end result. They don't check to see the greens are a as crisp as you personally would, meats are as red and fresh as you would, bananas are at the right ripeness as you want, check the dates on the milk like you do, and of course occasional mistakes in orders. It's their job so they only care enough not to get fired (at least in my area).
I only order canned and packaged goods now when I don't feel like carrying shit. Sometimes order a shitton of canned goods if I'm running low and feel like being a dick.
>>
>>12337500
I work in a grocery store that does these kinds of things and it's so retarded. You have to wonder at the mentality of people who want to order something online but pay more for it because it's been shipped to a brick and mortar store and been stocked on shelves. Most of the people who use it are lazy fucks who get tons of pre-packaged preserved shit that rots your gut. So it's not like they're worried about fresh produce being picked. It's literally things you can order on Amazon or other online grocery websites. But most of the people that use the online grocery shopping service are too old to even know there's alternatives.
>>
>>12336244
>"I don't use self checkout, I wanna use a cheout lane with a real person!"
>Literally a real person in self-checkout to help with any problems
>gives people in the store an extra job on top of regular cashiers

Fucking boomer mentality. They think they're supporting the "middle class" when in reality they're just posing for their own moral high ground and using the poor (likely just above poverty) workers of grocery stores for their smug satisfaction.
>>
>>12335392
flyovers don't eat fresh veggies though, they ship them to actual civilized places like cities. but i'm sure you guys eat plenty of fried pork anuses with a tub of HFCS drink though.

Self checkout is the patrician way to buy groceries no matter how big the cart
>don’t have to talk to people
>ALWAYS faster than the lazy slow cashiers
>you get to order your shit how you like by bag

Self checkout is great to buy the more expensive veggies at the lowest possible price. Just pass everything as carrots or something and save tons.

This is a problem when there is such a gap between education in the country
Im chinese and I imagine it is much the same in the USA as it is here where wealthy educated people often have to deal with literal hill orcs and stupid apes coming out from the bumfucks to shop in the shiny new grocery store and have no concept of things like “not shouting constantly” or not letting their little runts tear the store apart while employees cry in the corner knowing they will need to clean up after their entitled ass

I worked produce for a few years and the store boss stuck me in deli for a week whenever I called her or my lead out on bullshit. Produce is definitely one of the best departments in the store to work in, and the customers are the least demanding there. Deli is fucking nightmarish, though we at least you can talk shit about management there without repercussions since that's why everyone is there anyway, so it was kinda chill in that way.

self-checkout is a godsend if you worked in retail for 5+ years
most cashiers can't bag properly or ring up items totally incorrectly

baggers are a waste of time. i'd rather pay taxes for someone to have neetbux than to be a bagger. it's more likely that they eventually do something with themselves. NO ONE SHOULD BE A BAGGER. bag your own fucking groceries you lazy fucking faggot kike.
