are dragonfruits dangerous? sounds dangerous, looks dangerous
>>
>>12030961
no, the white ones taste like nothing.
>>
Dangerous?
>>
>>12031366
it has a neurotoxin that people with healthy kidneys don't need to worry about
>>
>>12030951
>tasty
girls aren't allowed to post on /ck/.
>>
>>12030961
Dangerously disappointing
>>
>>12030951
Grapefruits, if you take certain medications
>>
>>12030951
starfruit is shit
>>
>>12030961
Over prices and bland. It has a VERY subtle flavor, but it's not worth the prices I see them sold for. Very disappointing as they look really cool.
>>
>>12031380
You're still not supposed to eat them on an empty stomach, even with healthy kidneys.
>>
Grapefruit with certain medications.
>>
>>12031672
Starfruit is only shit if you eat it outside of the country and climate of origin.
>>
>>12032818
Nah, I live in the dark depths of Eastern Yuropooria and bought a bunch of them on clearance (because fuck paying nearly 2 bucks-equivalent per piece) and they're nice and refreshing, even if they've started to brown at the edges.
>>
>>12030951
>tasty but dangerous
Are you throwing it at people?
>>
>>12030961
>Store was carrying them and some other weird fruit that was in season
>Dragonfruit was $5 a piece, bought one just to try it
>Ate it for breakfast, not bad, but a very mild fruit.
If it was cheaper I wouldn't have been disappointed. I'm curious how the pink ones taste, are they any different?
>>
>>12032853
They contain a neurotoxin and large amounts of oxalic acid. People with kidney issues can (though admittedly the chance is low) actually die from eating them.
>>
>>12032873
Red ones have a much stronger flavor, slightly citrussy and sweeter. White dragonfruit tastes like nothing.

Better spit the seed back out because if it somehow gets broken up in your stomach you're in for an embarrasing trip to the hospital.
>>
regular anona fruit consumption fruit is terrible for your brain, especially if you drink juice because the juice has some of the skin and seed with it as well.
it's been studied and proven but it's fucken delicious just don't get the seed anywhere near your eyes or mouth and you should be fine even if you eat it once a month

Confirming. Really tasty but the seeds are poisonous as fuck.

If you're not willing to eat fruit with seeds outright classified as a lethal poison you may want mullberry. Delicious in moderate amounts, will cause explosive diarrhea if eaten in excess.
>>
>>12033492
what is it?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxine_alkaloids

BTW, it's the common yew aka European yew, and frequently planted as a decorative bush.

I don't know if it was these ones or some other poisonous decorative berries, but I distinctly remember being in kindergarden, and the teachers constantly telling kids to not eat the berries and watching the edges of the yard like a hawk. Yeah, the kindergarden's outdoor play area was surrounded with bushes that had poisonous berries, A+ design from the gardener.

>are dragonfruits dangerous? sounds dangerous, looks dangerous

No, the real name is pitaya. It is a type of cactus that climbs rocks and trees.

>No, the real name is pitaya. It is a type of cactus that climbs rocks and trees.
However it will give you diarrhea if you eat too many.
>>
>>12030951
Why are they dangerous? I remember eating these as a kid for a treat when my mom wanted to splurge a little at the grocery store.
>>
>>12035633
They contain a toxin which can send people with kidney problems to the ER. Apparently, if you start hiccuping continuously after eating them, go see a doctor immediately.
>>
>>12035665
Good to know.
>>
>>12030961
They look awesome, but like the other anons said, it's very bland. Rambutan is the superior Asian fruit.
>>
>>12032873
>>12033199
Confirming this. The red ones are actually really delicious. Just beware that they stain everything badly and I found it's somewhat annoying to even wash it of my hands.
>>
>>12033901
Every kindergarden and primary school in germany during the 90s was surrounded by them. It's like our elders knew how to weed out the tards and call it an "exident".
>>
>>12031672
Starfruit feeds giant crows that let you into their gold cave once a year, how that is shit, I will never understand.

Kek. And yeah it was the 90s, so it wasn't just us doing that. Anyone else from other european countries remembers it?
>>
>>12030951
How is star fruit dangerous exactly?
>>
>>12032789

I tried kumquats recently. They are dangerously tart.

Speaking of kumquats, what the hell should I do with the rest of the ones I bought? I'm 50/50 on cutting them up and drying the zest or candying them.
>>
What about that bullshit about apple seeds being poisonous? Is that real? As Im not a faggot, I always eat the seeds instead of spitting them out, will my manly ways kill me?
>>
>>12038200
You're not a faggot but you love eating seed?
Fag.
>>
>>12038200
Technically they are, I think it was some compound that is related to cyanide, but the doses are small enough that eating the seeds of like a couple of apples at a time is fine. I don't know why you'd do that though.
>>
>>12038200
They are, potatoes are toxic too but to actually get sick you need to eat a FUCKLOAD of them basically nonstop.
>>
>>12035677
longan/rambutan/lychee all taste the same to me basically but they're all based. pitayas aren't asian, though.
>>
>>12038734
Then why didn’t The Martian die, huh?
>>
>>12031151
the purple ones are good though
>>
>>12038734
It's kind of a misnomer to call them toxic. It's actually the other parts of the plant which are, and the tuber itself has only traces of the toxin. On top of that modern taters are usually cultivars that have been refined to have very low levels of the toxin in the first place.
>>
>>12034022
All fruit does that
>>
>>12037156
Answer me, you cretins. Candy or Zest these kumquats?
>>
>>12035823
I'm pretty sure we had those around in gradeschool. Old enough to know better but dumb enough to try anyway. Wasn't it particularly slimy when crushed?

The 'don't eat the seeds' thing is such bullshit. Back when I was an edgy teen I tried to kill myself chewing a few yew berries everyday on the way to and from school for a week or something, 5/6 berries a day because they're too bitter to eat more, and they did fuck all. I'm 29 now and still have functioning kidneys, liver, heart whatever.

I don't understand how people die from it, like you'd probably have to eat way more than I did but it tastes worse than raw acorns I don't know know you can eat that much in one go without throwing it back up immediately.

The red flesh is really sweet and gooey and delicious though. I still nab a few berries when I pass a yew bush/tree.

>he thinks /ck/ is a male board
What a fag
>>
>>12041002
Yeah, has the texture of natto/snot but is sweet and has a really subtle resin-y hint.
