/beer/ generalDrinking this and a local rye IPA tonight. Pretty good. Nothing special but easily worth 5$.
>>11744519Drinkin' a local Russian Imperial Stout. Good stuff.
Just poured myself a smoked porter. Good shit. Gonna get a little drunk and play some Smash
>>11744604Is it the Alaskan brewing one? That's the beer that turned me on to stouts and porters
>>11744636No, although I've had that. It's from Summit in MN
Drank this. The flavours were slightly synthetic but overall i really enjoyed it.
>>11744778I wish I had tons of money just to go travelling around and tasting all RIS there is to taste.
>>11744519Not a fan of rye beer from the half dozen I've tried. I don't like wheats much either, though. I hate non-cereal grain adjuncts too, but at least those beers are cheap and not filling. IMO the more barley, the better, from a wort standpoint.
>>11744674They have a smoked porter? Since when?
nice sour red ale.
The other store brought over some pic related and I'm probably gonna try it tonight. The pink can here is a Stillwater, Imperial Chocolate Milk Stout, and it's pretty fucking good. I've always been skeptical about their retardedly minimalistic designs. My town has only one place that's really into craft beer, and that's usually just commercial craft beer they can afford by transportation's cost, even their real off the wall shit. It's nice and all, but the people there are pretty snotty, and they don't invest in this crazy small name shit you find in the dark depths of the states.
>>11744986New variety 12 pack! Smoked porter, rye amber, a mediocre IPA and a really good pale
>>11744519Brewery Vivant Big Red Coq
>>11745084want this. really hard to find non meme sours that are actually flavorful and strong.
ehhh im just drinking stone IPA because i couldnt decide what to get and there was a good deal on a 12 pack. richmond life.
>>11744604>smoked porterWhat's that? Sounds interesting.
>>11745236where you at? i'm in southern ontario, this is had at the lcbo ($12 monopoly money). i've always assumed that whatever euro beers do make it here are mostly meme and not the genuine article. i admit i'm ignorant, i mostly drink scotch/gin, but i've been buying belgian beers to try them. i like earthy, muddy dark brews but this bottle is very pleasantly different.
>>11745267have this tonight, too. just tastes like beer. forgettable.
>>11745255dark beer with smoked malts. Tastes the way a campfire smells. This one also had some chilies in it which wasn't terrible (but normally I don't like spicy beers)It's not a super common style but it's goooood
>>11745094Fug I gotta pick that up
>>11745267>i've always assumed that whatever euro beers do make it here are mostly meme and not the genuine articlewhat do you mean by this?
actually intrested how many eurofags out here?
>>11745411>what do you mean by this?canadian culture is a bastardised mongrelisation of its euro and american antecedents. perhaps quebec is different, i've never lived there, but i have lived in the states and i don't conflate the lcbo's inflated prices with proof of quality. call me a cynic.
>>11745271That sounds fucking awesome. I smoke a lot of food, I'm very interested in having a smoked drink. I'll have to keep an eye out.
>>11745482It's more of a beer recommendation thread than a depression and despair blogging thread
>>11745446no what do you mean when you say that beers may be "meme"?
>>11745482don't try and derail our thread with your disorders, please stay in your containment thread.
>>11745636second-stringer in terms of quality.
>>11745643outside of macros you don't really have to worry about that with belgians, outside of maybe leffe's stuff (which isn't actually bad)
>>11744519this is beer which, if i saw it on the shelf at the store, i wouldn't buy because of the faggot label/name.
>>11745653i've had grande reserve 17, grande crus, saint bernardus abt 12, this rodenbach 16. i have a list of belgian beers on my phone, gleaned from /ck/, but i struggle to find most of them here in ontario. rodenbach 2016 has impressed me, however.
Homebrewing. Do I need to wait for my batch to stop bubbling completely before I bottle it? I brewed it 2 weeks ago, and fermentation got stuck after a couple days. OG was 1.046, took a reading last weekend when it was stuck at 1.020. I unstuck it (swirled it around a bit) and it's been slowly bubbling all week, and now it bubbles once every few minutes. FG is supposed to be 1.010-1.015. Since it was already down to 1.020 last weekend before I unstuck it, shouldn't it be down to 1.015 by now? I haven't taken a grav reading yet because I want to limit how many times I open it up, but if I take a grav reading and it's less than 1.015 is it good to bottle even if it still occasionally bubbles? I'm trying to get it in the bottles so it'll be ready by the Super Bowl in 3 weeks.
fuckin' grand prestige lads……… loool
>>11744519I fuckin hate the taste of all beer except for pussy Smirnoff ice, am I doomed anons?
>>11745662It's Lagunitas, dum dum.
>>11747973Have you tried selling your body to degenerate old men? Mad cash in that.
It's out, lads
never put as much effort into getting a beer as I did this one, but it was worth it for this whale
Bought one of these last night. Havent opened it yet. What am I in for?
>>11748334Amai mijne frak..............
>>11748334Cough syrup (jk, it's a good into Lambics)Shoutout to Yuengling Black and Tan pint cans for getting me through the winter.
Just scored a bottle of this, hopefully it lives up to the hype and the price
>>11745255I don't think they made any this past year but this is the best smoked porter I have tried so far
>tastes, looks and smells like redstripe, 4 times more expensiveweebs are basically suckers
>>11745466Keep an eye out for Raushbier as well. Its the german equivalent.
>>11748334Make a float out of it! Pour it over some vanilla ice cream! So good!
>>11748334hangover from all the sugar if you're not careful
Man, I feel like I'm missing out on beer proper. I've only drank IPA's, and they all taste like piss, basically. They get the job done, but I feel like there's more to try. Any recommendations?
is it reasonable to have a 6 pack of IPAs? or will that basicaly make you feel like shit due to hop overloaid?
Anyone had any of monument's stuff? Pic related and their brown ale are great. Also anyone have any brown ale recs? It's a pretty underappreciated style imo.
>>11749741hop overload isn't a thing, you won't feel any worse after drinking a 6 pack of IPA than you would another 6 pack of the same alcohol content
>>11749746Local Fav of mine. Newcastle kinda sucks and has no fizz.
>>11748861A buddy of mine who lives in Madison got me one of those, how much does it go for secondary?
>>11749757>Jacksonville Damn I haven't been in Tennessee since I was a kid. I'll be on the lookout if I ever go back.
>>11749835Funk Factory did a bottle event at Eagle Park Brewery near me today so I walked over and picked one up retail at $35Also picked up one of these
>>11749907Jesus christ maybe I have had a bit too much to drink. Regardless I haven't been to Florida in a while either.
>>11749889Nice score. I'm sure both of them will be incredible. I also picked up a Blackberry Meerts with my order, can't wait to try both of them. Funky, Tart, Geuzes' and Saison's are my favorite styles.
>>11749751nice. gonna have a bunch of IPAs then cause its all i got
>>11749006Kirin and Asahi are leagues better and cheaper
Had this earlier tonight. It was all right, though I was hyped for more than what I ended up tasting.
>>11748878One of my favorite releases from them
>>11749741Hops are natural sedatives. You'll be a little sleepier but that's it
>>11744519I've mostly been drinking my Belgian-y 3.5, trying to make room for the batch I'm making tomorrow (a chocolate cherry "Black Forest" stout), but everyone keeps bringing me Hacker Pschorrs... in cans.... THE BEER COMES IN GREAT FLIP-TOP BOTTLES! WHY ARE YOU BRINGING ME CANS, YOU PLEBEIANS? I mean. My friends are great, and I really enjoy getting buzzed and talking trash with them.
>>11748304What's a whale?
>>11748304>>11750501Or this maybe?
>>11748304>>11750496Is first year kbs? Idk.
>>11748304>>11750511Non spoiled 2015 proprietors has to be a whale right?
>>11745269>>11745269I'm sorry you can't appreciate it. It's one of my go-tos. Try the white one.
>>11750496>>11750501>>11750507>>11750511>>11750516sort out your fucking picture orientation mate
>>11745269>just tastes like beerYour tastebuds are fucked. I dont cream my pants over Belgians, but chimay is all around great
>>11745084Had this one yesterday, taste amazing.Red flanders have been my go to for a few weeks now but rodenbach is the best brewery by far for this. I like this one but I think the caractere rouge is my favorite.
>>11746921You definitely want it to stop bubbling before bottling. Fermentation isn't as simple as converting sugar to ethanol and C02; tons of other compounds are generated throughout the process. If you pull beer off of the yeast before fermentation is finished you'll get (among other things) a prevalence of acetaldehyde, which tastes like unripened green apples. Also, if you're bottle-conditioning, you run a serious risk of over-carbonating or even bursting bottles.tl;dr: Give it a couple of days to ferment out. If the bubbling slows to a few times a day you should be good. Better to have a beer a touch drier than you intended than an over-bubbly apple bomb.
>>11750496>>11750507These are the only impressive two out of the bunch. Havent you posted this shit before though?
Where can i buy this?
>>11752668I posted them while I drank them, cunt.
>>11752668>>11753401Here is a picture of what we started the night with before the host dug out the hardys (silver is a different year than I've ever had before). The rum wizzard in the photo came out around a month ago and that Jackie o's is much more recent than the last batch of photos.
>>11753244Meijer grocery stores in the midwest seem to still have it. It came out before the holiday so it may be harder to find.
>>11753401>>11753584Coulda sworn I've seen the same pictures before. How was the Thomas hardy stuff?
>>11753681I've posted from that house and alot of the same beer. As for the hardys it's great, which is why he has so fucking much of it. That bottle was better than a few ive had in the past. Full disclosure the proprietors was the best of the night. Really huge bourbon that presents in a truly unique way.
>>11745639they just deleted it again
I've been getting into Belgians lately and picked up a 750ml bottle of this for $10. What am I in for?
>>11754388An above average quad, but not as good as Rochefort 10, St. Bernardus 12, etc. They make a barrel aged version as well which I quite like, and they also released of the bourbon quad with their whiskey barrel stout which was phenomenal. Pic related.
>>11754597*released a blend of their bourbon quad with their whiskey stout
>>11754597Thanks for the input. I like it better than La Fin Du Monde. I know that's a Tripel, of course.
>>11754736Try to find trois pistoles from unibrou
The Bruery Bakery was a drain pour. Tasted like liquid coconut oil.
>>11755131coconut oil is liquid
>>11755183tasted like solid coconut oil then
>>11746921agree, definitely let it go until no more bubbles, and probably a few days extra for a diacetyl rest.why did it get stuck? are you controlling the temp?
I want to try hobgoblin or any wychwood beers. But I heard gingerbeard is bad so, gonna avoid that one despite its kickass label
>>11755230Hobgoblin's good. Try King Goblin if you see it.
Hop Bullet is really good this year.
any of you guys losing weight?if so how do you limit your beer consumption
>>11757759I stop buying it
>>11753681Went back up to help my buddy move some stuff and got to talking and the. This happened. I'm blow away by that in the woods bigfoot. I saw the label and cringed, then the ginger addition and cringed more. Couldnt be more wrong. Was very good and held up to the other stuff in the photo
>>11759163Forgot the picture.
>>11759163>>11759175I had that on tap a couple years ago. Wish I found a bottle or two to cellar.
>>11759163I've been really tempted on picking up those barrel aged SN beers. I think theyve done a couple different ones now, or they just rereleased that one a couple times. Not sure
Just drank this. Pretty underwhelming ťbh.t. Belgian in Canada
Still have some more to go.
>Night pils>Hop Stoopid>Imperial stout>Black Swan>IPALagunitas $5 bombers are all gifts from god.
>>11759665bombers are still a ripoff and terrible beer format. All beer should be 6 packs for base tier (or larger) and 4 packs for high tier
>>11759665That Hop Bullet >>11755476 was $2 for a single can and 8% ABV. The six pack is $10. Better tasting than any Lagunitas, cheaper, and harder hitting. Sierra Nevada are also proper craft beer, being independent and not owned by an outside company. (Lagunitas are owned by Heineken).
>>11759555Good belgian beer is tricky to find in Canada. I found a few good ones in southern BC, a couple in Quebec, but weirdly enough, Trans Canada Brewery in Winnipeg of all places had the best belgian farmhouse and german summer beers.
>>11759673I agree. Though for those of us who like to drink less but lack self control it's nice to be able to drop $5 and get just the right amount of beer. Though I'm so tired of paying $12 for 22oz of fancy beer when I just want 8oz of at most.>>11759690I'll have to try it. I've mostly given up trying new IPAs but every once in a while I'll give one a shot.>Lagunitas are owned by HeinekenYeah but they haven't changed in any way that I've noticed since they were purchased. I don't really care.
>>11759710>I dont really careDont say that, you'll get some uptight cunt angry at you and ruin the thread even though it really doesnt matter
>>11759758this has literally never happened here
ah yes im a bit of a beer aficionado
>>11759218The Maple Scotch TITW is easily the best one. Avoid the barrel aged Otra Vez. Probably the only outright terrible beer I've had from SN.
Starting to get into stouts after a few false starts (Modern Times Black House is shit). This fucker is pretty great. Bourbon Barrel Aged isn't just a meme I guess.
>>11759697Ive seen some in your liquor stores. Why do people fall for the Stella meme?
>>11759899mirin that Revision IPA. Never see them mentioned in these threads, but their beers are usually pretty tasty.
>>11759908It was better than expected. First can of theirs I've bought. A lot of their art and branding turns me off. This one got me to bite though. Would cop again even though it was a little pricey at $5.
>>11750516I drank an infected 15 barleywine the other day for memes. Fuck that was hard.
>>11759961What even is the date on that. Did they do another run of Muffin Sparkle or Disco Unicorn, whatever those two were called?
>>11759787This is litteraly not true. The faggot who posts his lines from every so cal event will lose his shit. He has a modern times tat on his ass and doesnt realise that one kind of shilling is just as bad as another.I'm pretty sure it's the same fag who thinks Alvarado street is unironically Americas best brewer.
>>11759555Canadian beer has some messy spots. Keep trying Belgian friendo, it wont be as cool as your beer at home but their are some good ones to be found.
>>11759787Happened to me about a month ago because I posted about enjoying something from elysian or some shit
>>11759555if you go to vancouver check out dageraad if you want belgian style beers
>>11759787there's one dork who spergs out about ab inbev now owning tripel karmeliet every time someone mentions that beer
>>11760678Semi-related note, this is pretty good if you have it in your area.
>>11762247I'm a Chicago, but I'm sure I can I can trade for it. Nice DDB sticker tho.
>>11760696It was a batch from mid December. Must have been a fresh run.
>>11762460Not bad. I remember the unicorn one being a bit better than the cat one.Just pounded my pre-work beer.
I dropped ten bucks on a 750ml bottle of this. Does anyone who tried it have any thoughts? I'll report back later once I crack into it.
>>11744519i'm drinking pic related. Rare Barrell is a sour-only brewery in my area and this is their Golden Sour Stout. >>11765130you are like entry-level babby but it's probably the best farmhouse ale imo.
>>11765178>you are like entry-level babbyObjectively true.
>>11765178>A Sour THE Beer Co.what did they mean by this?
>>11765130i remember that beer blowing my mind when i first had it years ago. crazy soft floral notes, it was like drinking roses. then i just grabbed a 6 pack of it a week ago and it was so bland. kinda made me feel disappointed in craft beer.
>>11744519I'd actually like to see a beer making thread on /ck/. Don't recall any. My dad makes some good dark beer, but I've never tried.
I've never met an IPA I've liked. Have I only had bad ones? What's an IPA you can recommend that could change my mind?
>>11765597What type of beer do you like? Malty? German? Light American? Sour?Drink an ipa from your local brewery. That's probably a safe bet too.
>>11765618I usually like dark and bitter beers, such as brown ales and stouts.I have a lot of local breweries, so I'll try asking about their popular IPAs on my next visit.
>>11765597What region are you in? If you can find it, look for >>11755476https://sierranevada.com/beer-locator
>>11765676I'm in the southeast US. I'll pick up a couple of those.
>>11765683I don't know many SE breweries, but as far as the big craft guys that are likely to be easy to find in much of the country go with Founders Azacca IPA,
>>11765198A Co. that sours the beer. Clearly.
>>11765683Ass Clown Brewing co. and Burial Beer Co. if you're near NC.Burial beers have the added bonus of being the closest you can come to drinking a death metal album.
>>11765546It's really bland and hoppy. I don't know if I'm not able to pick up more subtle notes or what. I really don't like believing the "it's gone downhill" meme, but I'm not impressed.
Central Waters never dissapoints.
Some of the finer craft selections from my gas station
>>11765646Yeah, finding a malt forward ipa (northwest ipa) over a citrusty one would probably be what you're looking for. Maybe trying a pale ale would be worthwhile also. I find that learning about the beer from the brewery; hops, how it got its name, the holistic aspects is enough to make you enjoy a beer, even if you don't like how it tastes. But that also takes a knowledgeable bartender.
>>11766448OM Ice and Beast Light were pretty tasteless, the latter was more pleasant, tasting mostly like saltine crackers.Genesee Cream is nothing fancy but a very solid cheap beer with a fantastic mouthfeel.Four O tastes like they poured a pound of HFCS in each can to reach the 10 percent ABV. Really gross but no alcohol burn.
>>11765597>>11765646Have you only drank US west coast style IPAs?Try an English style IPA, would probably be more to your taste.
