Guy on the right helped me out big time. Bottom floor near the cosplay panel room. Very grateful. He asked me to do something on Instagram but I don't have an account so figured I'd give a shoutout here.

I think I'll try harder to talk to people tomorrow, today was a bit lonely. Will there be another meetup on Saturday?

I liked the Yukana panel, her gesticulations and manner of speaking were pretty cute. Too many audience members talking loudly while she was speaking though, pretty disrespectful.

Same, luckily I’m going tomorrow too so Hopefully I can bring up the courage to chat up some people
>>
>>10290072
Not him, but it's just so..intimidating? Most if not everyone is in groups so it seems intrusive as fuck to just butt in when they've got all their inside jokes and stories going.

And small talk on panel lines never last either
>>
>>10290074
Most of the females at the party appear to already be with someone. The enticing ones at least.
>>
>>10290075
I'm a simple man, I am a 5 that stays in his lane.
>>
>>10290076
I don't know what I am, plus this isn't exactly a linear scale. I mean enticing to *me*, which can be different from what it is to others.
>>
>>10290074
Agree anon (though I don't want to turn this into a zetsubouthread). Not even looking for girls specifically, even the guys I tried to talk to seemed reluctant to carry on a conversation. I think the best way is probably to find someone with shared interests but there are no melancholy seinen slice of life panels or exhibits. Or I guess if you're at the after party, get really drunk, then everyone's your friend.
>>
>>10290083
That sounds more like MDMA than alcohol. Plus, I don't drink, and I don't go for sauced girls.
>>
>>10290049
I just learned. brb dying.
>>
>>10290083
Yeah, I'm fairly confident in my ability to read people, most people give off a vibe they aren't interested in anything past a sentence or two.
>>
>>10290075
Fuck off incel
>>
>>10290085
I mean if you just want hookups just go on tinder. At least in my experience alcohol is the go-to here. And then after, depending on who you're with is either pot or cocaine. MDMA if you're in bushwick.

>>10290092
Maybe playing one of those board games or video games at the game area would be good since it lasts a while? Heh, I feel pretty autistic thinking of ways to scam people into talking to me

I left after Miku, I hope I did not miss anything like Miku coming back. Was hoping for a certain song.
>>
>>10290468
Well, first, Miku did not come back yet so she was still being kept in a special facility. It was a situation where there were still people missing from the incident. The song was a special song made for this occasion. This was done in the first two months after the incident ended and I was going to make the song just as a memory of the event. I made the song and Air Dropped it. I felt so happy when the song started to do well. I thought it would have a good effect on people.

In the same way, I wrote the song because I wanted to play it. I wanted to play it for the first time on stage. When I was in my early twenties, I wanted to make the song. I wanted people to play it. I wrote the song for the last song of the album, and made it during that time.

Didn't go to the official afterparty but went to the OWA one.

Was overall pretty nice and long beach griffy was there too. Only real downside imo was that the "bar" was basically a kitchen so you'd need to order multiple drinks in advance to avoid the line.

After switching to the SBB party from OWA I managed to pick someone up pretty easily and ended the night at her hotel.

I’m convinced that all the 3rd party after parties suck (perez play/OWA) if you’re outside the “clique”
>>
>>10290845
Green text time
>>
>>10290849
Not much desu
>head to OWA at Bowery after not going to the con on Saturday because Friday was boring as fuck
>chill there for 2 hours but realize everyone else is already in a clique/group
>the one girl I tried to hit up got pulled away by her friends
>ended up playing Overwatch on the PCs at OS until I got bored and left
>end up at Spin
>party is a blast full of people noise and fun
>chill around the bar for a bit waiting a meet some /a/nons
>as I’m talking with them and waiting for my drink I notice a girl alone who looked kinda lonely
>mustered up the courage to ask if she was alone and when I got confirmation offered to buy her a drink
>spent the next 3 hours at the party just talking and getting to know each other
>she books an Uber for 2 to her hotel and
>...
>profit

I did learn from her that part of the reason she accepted my drink offer was because of my cosplay. I’m the guy with the animated UwU glasses in a full Ahegao jumpsuit.
>>
>>10290845

You know I really liked owa, actually was able to dance with a bunch of people but the venue was just too cramped, nice video game setups, if I’m ever on a trip to nyc I might consider going to os though.

I’ll probably just go to senpai and sonic next year
>>
>>10290845

Also makes me wonder if any unlucky anons went to Perez play
>>
>>10290853
I think OWA would have been better it it wasn’t at OS. I said this earlier but the combination of it being a cliquey party and the ability to zone out and play vidya really fucked the mood of the party.
>>
I went to OWA briefly but I was too tired. Place was cramped as hell and I definitely agree about the clique thing.

>>
Didn't really feel like I enjoyed this year too much.

Was torn between two groups of friends that made it difficult to hang out with either group, and like 50% of the time was spent looking for one of the groups.

Had my Camera with me but I didn't really ask for photos too much due to my retard social skills and being introverted.

Met up with someone briefly from /cgl/ that didnt seem all that thrilled to see me.

And missed 99% of the panels, with the last Pokemon panel being a borefest.

The most fun I had was at the OWA party and even then I left early due to no friends and retard social skills.
>>
>>10290891
I've realized this after the first time I went to Otakon 4 years ago. These shonen-obsessed assholes with their short attention spans aren't fun or interesting. I have a better time on /a/ interacting with others.
I just go to cons for premiers and announcements, Japanese arcade games, original artwork, Japanese anime industry people, loli porn, and cheap anime garbage. Basically everything except socializing.
>>
>>10290983
This was my first time too. I’ve only had 1 other serious gf and the girl I met at the party was the first I’ve ever made out with. You just need to be aware of your surroundings and have a little liquid courage.
>>
>>10291143
I'm decently confident in my ability to read people, I can tell if someone's into me, sometimes I just get blinded by desire and try to force what's not there.

I dunno how to do any of this shit though, the socializing to get to a girls hotel room, that's not the hard part, I can do that, it's everything after, that's some un-fucking-marked territory.

>>10291107
Not that anon, but AX has fallen off the last 5-7 years in terms of quality due to overcrowding and the industry presence slowly degrading of inudstry. Luckily CRX will replace AX in the near future as the "industry" con of California.

Yep! That was super fun to watch
Overall it was a good concert, lots of excitement after GK went on, lots of collabs between the artists. One thing to note is that similar to AX, a lot of people were there jsut for love live, so energy kind of sucked in the beginning (I know that's just how a lot of idol fans are, but it's still rude). Biggest con is probably that the room was not suited for a concert, so they should probably move to a bigger one with better sound

I had a blast at the con as always! 3rd year in a row but this was by FAR my busiest con! Almost as busy as NYCC since I was working with a lot of companies and hooking people up. I think there was someone who said he was going as Shin in one of these threads. Your costume was badass (especially the mask holy shit). I think you should have roughed up the suit a bit to make the cosplay perfect.

Thank you so much and I had to since the kids really wanted to get those prizes but they had to do the hunt for it. I didn’t mind doing it at all, it was fun! And never be nervous to ask for anything. I don’t mind it at all. And you’re welcome!
>>10291584
What made that more hilarious was that I know most of the staff and even THEY were annoyed at that guy. But it’s all good. I loved how Jam Project drew on my chest for funsies and people were asking why was my stuff drawn on me lol. And dude do you have the pic? I loved that we just ran into each other and squared up like that lol.

Side note, this King was awesome!
>>
>>10291587
Were you the chode on the left? I remember that annoying asshole. Wouldn't shut the hell up and thought he was hot shit for no reason. What was that douchebag even supposed to be cosplaying as?
>>
>>10291593
I was! I just have a lot of energy and didn’t sleep for 3 days due to not wanting to ruin the bodypaint lol. I had a lot of fun seeing old and new people alike, so I’m always energetic. I was Rob Lucci from One Piece, his Leopard Form. There was funny enough, another Rob Lucci in his normal form with Hattori. Next year I’m bringing the whole CP9 or I’ll do CP0 version of Rob Lucci.
>>
>>10291597
I thought you were a cool dude, loved what you did with the body paint.
>>
>>10291597
I thought you were a thundercat.
I was joking by the way. Conventions could use more fun people like you that aren't offensively abrasive.
>>
>>10291587
Oh shit I remember you telling my group to have a nice night as you were leaving the diner on Sat night lmao.

Anyone have any pics of that Negev cosplayer? Friend told me ANYC had a ton of GFL peeps.

I'm actually severely jealous of the dudes that can bring their gf's to this thing and have a blast. I wish I could have that.
>>
>>10291787
>>10291798
Fucking hell. I can only go to the cons in the south east and never ever see any GFL cosplays. I see like maybe one commander or T-Doll ever per con. Please post pictures if you have any.
>>
>>10291558
Thanks man, I'm very glad you liked my cosplay!, it was my first time cosplaying, so I'll take your advice for the next time. Also of course I remember you, you're one of the few who asked for something unique.
>>
so no pic dump?
>>
>>10291587

Yeah I do! did a bit of work on it too. My favorite would be just the amount of great cosplays out there in the con, like there so many interesting takes out there.

Thanks man. It took a good while to do but it was worth it. And lasted pretty well I want to improve on it next year so I’m more than happy to take any advice on this.
>>10291610
Thank you so much. And it’s crazy that I got compared to cheetara, and King from Tekken and then i run into 2 cosplayers who were doing that lol. I ran with it though. I never want to spoil someone else’s fun.
>>10291680
I remember you and your group. You all seriously nailed your cosplays and I really do hope you all got your well earned rest. Were there any highlights for you this year?

Mannnnn the fact that Kizaru and Aokiji came through was so good!!! I had to do their Japanese voices lol. Thanks for this bro. And one of my favorite shots of the con I just received

RDCWorld1 was there too btw.
>>
>>10291949
How many youtubers were at OWA? So far I count 2.
>>
>>10291949
I dunno anon anyone who says that SBB was just a bunch of people waving glowsticks is already someone not to be trusted.

I was also at both and outside of maybe 5 people in front of the DJ booth there was no one dancing. Everyone else was either chatting or playing on consoles/computers.
>>
>>10291983
>was just a bunch of people waving glowsticks
Made me think of like 20 something people violently flailing glowsticks with no synchronization
>>
>>10291983
I went to the official afterparty and stayed for about an hour. Thery did the Hatsune Miku waving flashlights thing and it was lame.

I get it though. It's an anime convention so they wanted to make it like your japanese animes but as an adult i found it kind of childish. The DJ telling people to change lights and for the most part, the main crowd was just waving flash lights. The DJ would be like, "Everybody change it to green! Change it to green!"

I just wasn't down with that and it was weird. I didn't feel like I was at a 21+ event with that going on. SBB has thrown great parties in the past, and even in that venue. But I feel like they were forced to do that to make it better fit with the convention theme.

I arrived to OWA shortly after midnight.

I don't want this to come off as too negative because I like both of these promotions and they throw great parties. I think next year I'm just going to go with OWA because that was way more wild and fun. And adult.

Games were there but they're usually there at these NYC anime parties but I don't really play them longer than maybe 15 minutes. It's not what I'm there for.
>>
>>10292018
I did sort of the opposite. I stayed at OWA til 11 and headed to SBB afterwards. I already said most of the stuff here but SBB felt more like a club than OWA by far. And when I was at OS a good chunk of people weren't even dancing they were either sitting around chatting or playing vidya.

Also it seems kinda weird to me that you'd go to an anime convention afterparty yet find the anime part of it weird especially since you're on /cgl/.
>>
>>10292028
>Also it seems kinda weird to me that you'd go to an anime convention afterparty yet find the anime part of it weird especially since you're on /cgl/.

No, I've been to SBB and OWA plenty of times in the past, I'm local. We do our anime thing there. We sing Naruto OPs and mark out. We cosplay. But it's also an adult vibe. For the time I was at SBB it felt younger. But given that we were both the early at the parties we didn't like so much maybe they didn't cook until later?

Like I said, both promotions are great and I'm glad we have them in NEw York. The ire was getting a little stale. My only refuge were the goth parties and those seem to be dying out. I think the goths all migrated to Jersey bc I see a lot more happening there.
>>
I could use some advice for next years con:
Are we able to just ghost our way in? Cuz security this year only checked like every other guys badge which is odd
>>
>The ire
That's an amazing typo. I meant to say the nightlife. Their used to be crazier nightlife events like TRASH! and NC-17. The promotor and DJ of those events sadly passed away. The scene's never been the same. There's also the warehouse raves in Brooklyn but I haven't gone to one recently. And as I mentioned the goth/fetish parties are my usual hangs.

But this anime shit that's jumping off? I like that we have that.
>>
>>10292063
Just buy a fucking ticket. I mean, you can definitly try that but who knows if they'll be as lax next year. There's also tickets being sold by the train. And I think they still had them online. Tickets was to see vendors, you could literally just chill outside the vendor area tho
>>
>>10292068
This

If you're just there to see cosplays and photoshoots, no ticket was needed.
>>
>go to after-party on Friday
>get way too drunk at the pregame, and a guy was buying everyone up shots at the actual after-party
>quickly realize I can't really chat up girls since I'm a mess
>end up buying an 80 dollar Uber back home instead of taking the train which I don't remember doing
>wake up Saturday with a banged up knee and no idea how I got back home
>Basically hobble around all Saturday, can't do the poses I wanted to since I doubted I could hold anyone

Why am I like this

>>
>>10293435
It's not out of place, but it's the definition of no effort. Type UA Uniform into amazon. Done.
>>
>>10293686
I do have one of this Amazon UA uniforms, which I've mostly used for parties.

I don't think that the goal of wearing it is to go for effort as much as it is to just embrace the fandom. I would not expect anyone in a UA uniform with a basic wig to start posing for photos on the floor.

But I guess cosplay is subjective to some extent.

-Separate artist alley again
-More attendee interaction events like a speed dating thing or something
-More giveaways/raffles
-Security that actually does their job
-Staff needs to tell people when a panel is maxed out so we can stop having extremely long lines with 80% of it not standing a chance
>>
>>10295093
Please seperate artist ally. Felt like I paid for a badge just to wander around one room the entire weekend
Also maybe seperate cosplay meetup spots, that area gets crowded enough without 3 groups jockying for space
>>
>>10295093
-Better/normal afterparty. Didn't sign up this year due to not being familiar with Club Love Live
-24/7 Arcade corner
-24/7 Anime Streaming
-More interactive panels, I know of other cons that have things like speed dating and dance lessons
-No ball/plush pits, its already unhygenic enough plus mixing in a bunch of unwashed lardweebs is a recipe for a superbug.
-Better placement of booth tags at booths, I felt like some booths weren't displaying their tags properly, which would lead to a ton of frustration when trying to look for friends.
>>
>>10295487
24/7 isn't going to happen, it's logistically impossible to rent out the entire Javits for 24h a day and secure it
>>
>>10295093
-18+ panels
-fan made panels would be nice, i feel like it would lighten the load to the main con panels lines
-if tokyo pop is able to, have more cabinets at least 2 of each game. if not then its understandable
-smash bros and some other games not covered by tokyo pop
-seconding the interactive panels
-more coat checks areas/space? im not entirely sure how they would do this but it would be nice since on saturday both coat checks got filled.
-bigger meetup areas for larger communities, for the demon slayer meetup with the amount of space there was along with the amount of people there as well as other meetups and shoots going on, i feel like it would be good to accomodate accordingly for fandoms that might need it
-larger after party venue, might be a small thing but i feel like there was a lot more people who wanted to go to the official after party but couldn't just because of how many tickets there were available
>>
>>10295093
I mostly went for the Japanese guests, and I do have to say this year went a lot better than last year for sure.
- All Japanese autographs are done by lottery; none of this random Vofan/Kugirie/Yukana business where it's tied into a booth or online purchase
- Weighted lottery entries: if there's 10 guests each person entering the lottery has 10 points to allocate. If you're really into 1 guest you can throw all 10 points into them, which eliminates you entirely from the running for the other guests but gives you the maximum chance to get an autograph ticket for said guest
-Better line management - staff should have an idea how much room is in the Special Events or any smaller panel room and cut people off earlier, as well as better organizing the hordes of people who want to get into highly anticipated events like Tenki no Ko early
>>
>>10295093
Please separate artist alley, that's all I want!

>>10295175
>>10295465
>>10295487
>>10295570

>>10295583

Yeah separating artist alley again is a great idea. It should be back to where it was last year. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. As far as speed dating is concerned, I’m afraid that won’t be happening at all. There’s too many risks involved that the owner and company do not want to get into if a situation happens. I mentioned this last year as well. More arcades can definitely be done as well as bringing in more game companies too. More coat checks could be done but realistically only about 1-2 more at best. Bigger meet ups are a plus. Any other suggestions people? I have a conference call with the company on Friday.
>>
>>10295580
>as well as better organizing the hordes of people who want to get into highly anticipated events like Tenki no Ko early
The crowd management for Lantis Matsuri was ridiculous, Javits staff kept giving different instructions to the VIP section and ultimately ended up just opening the doors and letting everyone shove their way in.

>>10295631
Might be outside the scope of the conversation at this point but I'd like to see the concerts either moved back to an outside venue or the line-up procedures clearly outlined before the day of the show. That was actually the only communications let down I had this year, no Crew or Javits people I talked to knew how it was going to work and it was never posted online other than 'Starting at 5:30'. Assigned seating wouldn't hurt either, takes the edge off lining up entirely.
>>
>>10295631
>into if a situation happens
Like what? What could happen that couldn't happen on the floor?
>>
>>10295667
Quiet you rapist
>>
>>10295672
What does that even mean? I'm asking you an actual question. Are they afraid of asshurt dudes causing a scene? That can happen on the floor too, at least in a contained environment they can be dealt with WAY easier.
>>
>>10295631
No, the artists and management already pointed out that the space upstairs was maxed out last year, and this year is even bigger. So likely not happening.
>>
>>10295702
It needs to happen or they need to find an alternative exclusive artist space because this years was too overwhelming
>>
>>10295631
> Speed dating
Yeah, big no. ANYC has way too many students for that.

Only other suggestion would be better rooms for some of the panels/events. Events like the concert should have been held in a room with an actual stage
>>
>>10295631
>>10295715

Honestly only way I can see speed dating working if it was an 18+ thing if they even considered it

One thing more I’d like to see is just a panel or area were you could just talk with other people, because I know a lot of people might be a little bit shy so that could be a good push in the right direction
>>
>>10295093
Lottery system is fine but maybe do the JapanExpo style lottery and also gave second chance for dropout
>>
>>10295780
>because I know a lot of people might be a little bit shy so that could be a good push in the right direction
That would help tons, I went with a friend and while on a line for a panel, this girl just started chatting us up, we all got along fairly well, just talked and joked for a good hour or so, I could tell she was excited to have someone to talk to, cause she would keep resparking the convo even if I didn't have much to say.

If she weren't with her parents I imagine she would've wanted to tag along for the rest of the day.
>>
>>10295820
>If she weren't with her parents
>>
>>10295857
Wasn't a loli, goober. She was an adult, just seemed extremely sheltered based on how excited she was to interact with people.
>>
>>10295711
On the other hand, the artists benefit from being placed in the same stream as the commercial vendors.

Part of the problem is that the Javits Center is undersized. Despite NYC being the largest city in the country, the Javits is only the 12th largest convention center. The only other places the artist alley could be placed are 3A or one of the first floor exhibition halls, and at the rate the con is growing, 3A will he needed for the commercial exhibitors next year.

See https://nypost.com/2016/01/07/the-javits-center-is-about-to-get-a-whole-lot-bigger/ about the expansion project.
>>
>>10295931

true like i can see where your coming from with the artists benefiting .they are building a new section from what i saw outside so maybe thats something
>>
>>10295931
Also some retard thought that it was a good idea to close off the 4th floor making the main one overcrowded and hard to get thru. Idk about 2018 but in 17, the 4th was open and it was a lot easier to get around
>>
>>10295693
There's a pretty big difference in 'could happen on the floor' and creating a situation where a bunch of dudes are going to feel entitled to act like creeps due to the format if these two threads are anything to go by.
>>
>>10295999
The fourth floor was closed off because the convention didn't pay for it, going with adding halls 3D and 3B instead. In 2018 the artist alley was filled to bursting
>>
>>10295631
I made like 30 minute critical review of the convention and my experience as an artist alley attendee if you want me to link that when I finish editing the video.
I tried to covered everything from start to finish of the convention.
>>
>>10296075
Speed dating is never gonna happen. IIRC, last time a con tried it, it blew up into some sort of scandal, so no.
>>
>>10296351
