Since we're on the topic of wearing things because they're comfortable and not because some attention starved scrote that deserves to be reported needs something to jack off to: What is everyone's most comfortable old school item? For me it's pic related. Atelier Boz only described the fabric as cotton, but it's much more soft and cozy than anything else cotton I own.

Is Vivienne Westwood generally considered more old school? I seldom see it used anymore outside of occasional shoes or bags.

Stop baiting. old school is at most 2006. 2007-2009 was transitional into 2010 ap sweet
>>
>>10227597
Is there a term for AP's golden age? It's not old school and we shouldn't adopt it as old school as we move forward. That time period was like the first Sweet Era and Print Influx.
>>
>>10227604
I just call it the transitional years of lolita. It has its own style and flair to it that the AP Sweet Glory Days don't quiet hit right. It's actually my favorite style to work with, but it's hard to find many of the pieces for decent prices, since modern sweets eat them up as old school
>>
>>10226619
Can carnival even be considered oldschool?
>>
>>10227771
It came out in 2006. That was 13 years ago. Imo old school is anything 2006 and older. Old school doesn’t just consist of “traditional Lolita” motifs and styling.
>>

none of this made up shit you subscribe to works here. learn how to lurk quietly or else screw off.
>>10226707
the consistent subpar quality of all the pieces she coorded the bodyline with makes this whole thing look so cheap. elevating that jsk with a better blouse and non-taobao socks would probably look really nice.
>>
>>10226936
They both are really solid, well researched, neat coords, but they're a little too perfect. No untied ribbons, unmatching purses, choppy hair, or wonky shoes: the coords follow the rules perfectly, and lost some of the punky old school feel because of it.
>>
>>10226707

>>
>>10228244
the dress isn't an old school dress, the blouse looks way too modern too, the socks aren't the right type for old school, the fact that it's just a basic black/white coord and not at all old school...

VW would be the punk influences that were big in the 90s. My guess is also Nana and Paradise Kiss were at its peak during this time that had more people incorporating VW items than say in present day. I wouldn't say it makes it right out old school but I do feel it was used more heavily during the old school period, if that description makes sense.
>>
>>10228344
Vivienne Westwood was a huge influence on jfashion, particularly lolita since vivienne worked a lot with more victorian/vintage designs. I mean come on, we still use her iconic designs as a part of our own iconic looks
>>
>>10228264
Im not talkin bout myself. I mean Yetaxa is literally afraid to wear something not old school in her coords. She doesnt have fun as i see it.
>>
>>10228632
...just because someone has a rule for themselves, or a personal style goal, doesn't mean they are not having fun. that is the way you're seeing it but you need to be aware of the fact that your perception is likely not the case. you're being so judgmental and trying to police another person's engagement with the fashion.
>>
>>10228632
you have an unhealthy obsession with this girl anon, you need to take a break from online stuff. go pet a puppy, read a book, sew a sweater idgaf but bringing up old ass drama that no one actually cares about and trying to make up narratives about someone is really unhealthy and kind of sad. do you have friends? go talk to one of them about anything not lolita related
>>
>>10228632
no one gives a fuck about this girl anymore, give it a rest

newfag itt. So i guess Ophelia's blog entry about old school isn't trustworthy? With all this drama ><
>>
>>10228760
No it’s not, she presents herself as much more knowledgeable than she actually is. Unfortunately she comes to defend herself in these threads to backtrack because her massive ego can’t take being wrong. She’ll say it’s not her but then say stuff only opehelia or people obsessed with her would think to say.
>>
>>10228760
No it is, she just has a few people who really don't like her. I think for a newb getting into old school, it offers a lot of good advice. But like anyone, her word is not the gospel, she does not run the old school substyle, and she still finds new things from it all the time. Use your own head when making coords and don't listen to others on cgl who say she's not trustworthy because of a single incident that happened years ago

threads like that are against the rules so obviously they don't crop up anymore?
I saw the original video she made for her channel and it's such a shame she felt she had to delete it because haters brought out the canons the second she misspoke. your idea of perspective sounds like hopping on the vilification train and that's a hard fucking pass.

these old school threads always end up as either a place for the same 3 girls to selfpost and WK each other, or as a dramatic competition to see which one of them can pretend not to be themselves better whenever their scummy behavior gets mentioned.

just post more oldschool, its fashion not the retard olympics.
>>
Which solid color Bodyline dresses and blouses are good for Old School looks? If we are not trying to be copycat or ‘so historically accurate’ to a street snap surely there are a few that can be used to get an Old School look?
>>
>>10228885
l082 looks like shit in the pic on the website, but if you cut off the bows at the hem it's a really nice OP. i'd replace the black ribbon with white in the bl-owh colourway though.

there's also l096, but i'm beginning to question whether it'll ever restock. also i've never seen a worn pic of it so it might be shite.

>>
Maybe this belongs in the stupid questions thread, but why don’t old schoolers buy iconic Vivienne pieces to match their coords? The RHS are only slightly more expensive than an average VM release. With as much sperging constantly going on about accuracy you’d think everyone would own a pair, a few jewelry pieces and maybe a bag. The latter being fairly cheap second hand if you know how to not get scammed.

Also, has anyone purchased an older pair of Meta’s stripper heels? The ones with the higher platform, are they just as shitty? My newer ones had to be taken to a cobbler after one wear.
>>
>>10229215
Because our main pieces that are actually old school are much cheaper than buying brand new. Many of us actually do own real Westwood shoes, bags, or clothing items, and I think there is an original mini-crini floating around the community somewhere but I forget who has it
>>
>>10229224
I know, anon, I wear old school as well and most of my main pieces end up costing under $200. What I mean is the prices aren’t outrageous for the fashion and people often spend around the same or more on brand, especially considering you save buying used clothes for your main wardrobe. I never see them except for those hideous melissa RHS and maybe the cheapest petite orb necklace, not the more iconic pieces you’d expect people to own. It’s usually not even old schoolers that wear them.
Isn’t it garbage chan? Regardless, I’m talking about the community in general.
>>
>>10229215
Other than their RHS and one of their corsets, I personally don't find them "iconic" and I don't see the appeal beyond "someone in a streetsnap wore it!!". Most of it is regular plain items with their logo slapped on and marketed as punk.
>>
>>10229253
This.
>>
>>10229215
I bought a pair of older Meta platforms at Closet Child. At the time, the only issue was that some pleather was peeling away at the straps. The first time I wore them out, I tripped on a curb and the entire sole came off. I E6000'd it back on and wore it out a couple more times, but the pleather would peel more and more off the shoe, until once at a tea meet the sole came off again, and I haven't worn them out since.
>>
>>10229253
idk what old snaps you’ve seen, but I see their rhs, cardigans, necklaces, rings, plaid shit and teddy bears literally everywhere
>>
>>10228705
>She copied one snap, one time.

I don’t care much for her style, but how is it so horrible to dress up like your favorite lolita/someone from a snap you love that it warrants this much shit stirring? Yeah, lolita isn’t a costume, blah blah, but to me this is the same as wearing full sets or styling yourself like an ad, brand runway model or Momoko (which so many people have done, I fail to see how this is different). This is a passable homage to an iconic memorable look. The first example is retarded as well, they could’ve worn those colors on accident. That’s literally all there is in terms of similarities.

Got my first oldschool BTSSB dress and I didn't realize this shit was going to be fucking tiny. It's so short half of my butt is showing.

Now I understand the need for long bloomers and I need to purchase a whole bunch of pieces just to go with this dress.

Anon that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Older items are shorter because they have gothic leaning roots. Where in the piles of gorgeous ruffled lace do you see cost cutting measures? A bustled skirt takes MORE fabric (tiers of ruffles!)
Seriously, were you high when you thought this up?

>>10236378
I don't agree with people who think she copies, but for the life of me I can't see what is objectively wrong with copying street snaps. We all enjoy flipping through them and her coordinates are uber polished. It obviously takes a huge effort to style how she does which is why no one else does it.

>>
>>10236414
diffanon but I also think it's a cool accomplishment when you can track down all the pieces used in a particular street snap. you can obviously use those pieces in other ways, but it's a fun homage to recreate an iconic coord that inspired you.
I mean, many early gothic lolitas were constantly recreating Mana's coords, which he facilitated by making his own brand. Only drama-hungry born-yesterday gulls would emptily complain about copying streetsnaps.
>>
>>10236728
>Only drama-hungry born-yesterday gulls would emptily complain about copying streetsnaps.
Or people who see the irony of copying other people of an era whose spirit was all about self expression. I don't care about Ophelia but those defending arguments are pretty weak and are really telling about the mindset of neo-oldschoolers.
>>
>>10236378
I don’t hate ophelia but this is just false
>>
>>10236733
you really just want to be mad, my dude.
recreating a snap once or twice is absolutely a lighthearted homage. it's an activity in the nerd aspect of this hobby. I've only been an active participant in this fashion since 2014 but from her old D_L posts to her CoF posts, she clearly does her own inspired thing. making a consistent habit out of posting only recreations would be boring.
luckily for us, no one does that. so...

>>
>>10236733
>Or people who see the irony of copying other people of an era whose spirit was all about self expression.
No my dudes, this all the way. This is why I'm tired of all you oldschool trenders. You're supposed to JUST DO YOU. Not some fad!!
>>
>>10237085
Honestly I think a lot of it is wanting to capture something of the pre/early internet era and everything that goes with it. The 'imperfect doll' vibes meets 90s/00s street fashion of old school is just so captivating. I believe self-expression is about doing what feels good and 'right', not necessarily pursuing novelty or uniqueness. Some people feel closer to times they were never actually a part of by imitating styles. Clothing has an amazing ability to take you places that way.

I was so freaking close to being part of the Japanese early lolita fashion scene but missed out due to being an exchange student in the middle of nowhere. I didn't actually dress lolita until a couple of years later. Knowing this kinda haunts me.

Old school, or rather, what was around in 2001/2 was my first experience of the fashion, what I feel most passionate about, and I completely understand why people, no matter when they discovered the fashion are so drawn to it.
>>
>>10237027
Ophelia looks like a brand ad, instead of a girl in a street snap.

If oldschool is "grandma-kei", then Ophelia is grandmother's prized bisque doll, whereas street snaps and more offbeat coords are the wonky figurines that her grandkids made in art class. They're both beautiful and meaningful, just in different ways.

Lace on older pieces is usually yellowed. Should i wear offwhite blouse to match it or white one to be autentic
>>
>>10238699
Just do your laundry.
>>
>>10226707
I don't know why this girl gets so many comments about quality, her Bodyline items are always the ones that are above standard BL quality. Actually I admire her eye for picking better items from the trash that most of Bodyline is.
>>
>>10238699
I have managed to get my older piece's lace close to, if not completely, white with some oxyclean treatments.
>>
>>10238703
They're talking about yellowing from age genius
>>
>>10238735
And? If you do your laundry properly, no lolita piece is too old to have the correct color lace. I've rescued probably a dozen pieces with yellowed lace.
>>
>>10238710
>>10238735
How can you use oxyclean without affecting black fabric?

Btw my question wasn't "how to make lace white"
>>
>>10238801
get the kind safe for colors.
>>
>>10238801
Oxyclean doesn't bleach, it just lifts stains/discolorations.

As for your question, just clean the lace so it'll be white and wear a white blouse. That's why people answered to clean it, rather than what color blouse you should wear.
>>
>>10238751
What stain remover? I've tried oxyclean, spray n wash, and shout, none worked that well
>>
>>10238813
Not that anon, but I have had great success with multiple oxyclean treatments to fix discolored lace. I had one that had almost orange lace, I was pretty worried but it just took a few long soaks in oxy and it's practically white now.

Don't be a retard. Old school is not a fucking style it's an era. If you wear old school you are at least wearing main pieces that are from before 2006. Her coord is the equivalent to Youtube MUAs making "90s makeup tutorials" with modern makeup trends.

>>
>>10240421
it's a rerelease of an old school piece. how is that comparable to wearing a full bl/taobao coord without any real old school reference or anything?
>>
>>10240421
Rereleases don't count, but let's be real, the rerelease always looks more modern and polished and end up looking more trad than old school
>>
>>10240388
>Old school is not a fucking style it's an era
Wrong.
It's a style that has ties to an era. By your logic it is impossible to make a handmade oldschool coord, which is stupid. You don't need to carbon date a garment to tell what style it is.
>>
>>10240444
And by your logic someone can take a modern angelic pretty piece and make it "old school" because they said so. Its called Traditional lolita when you make a dress or style an outfit in a way they would have during the old school era.
>>
>>10240478
Ok, I guess we’ll all abide by your rules

It’s called semantics. Get over it and stop arguing
>>
>>10240478
>it's true because Ophelia said so
"Traditional lolita" doesn't even exist, it's what Misako/Japanese call oldschool. You sound like a Ophelia orbiter or Ophelia herself. If you are her, sincerely fuck off and stop acting like wearing only 10+ year old stuff makes you the best oldschooler.
>>
>>10240496
Kek, it's funny how ophelia acts like she is some kind of oldschool goddess when she can't coord for shit without copying old snaps
>>
>>10240478
Hey Ophelia, I know it’s difficult but could you please stop sperging out in these threads and WKing yourself/spreading your personal(incorrect) opinions as facts? Thanks
>>
>>10240496
Umm, traditional is absolutely it's own style.
old school encompasses all three major substyles and other themes like punk, sailor, etc.
Traditional is heavily doll-inspired or classic fairytale inspired imo and is not tied to a specific era like old school is.
Old school classic is often very traditional in vibe.

I am a huge fan of "traditional" elements and style, which is why I also like many old school pieces.
In >>10230658: left coord has many traditional elements while right has very few. All three looks are old school, being either EGL or EGA. In my thinking, traditional is just a style, a flavor, like sweet, gothic, or classic.
One big thing between old school and trad is there are no restrictions about the lace types used on pieces. Mam's current skirt/capelet sets, or several of Baby's classical releases come to mind. (The newer Shirring Princess releases have tulle lace, for example)
>>
>>10240496

>>10240496

>>
>>10240541
Please stop you are embarrassing yourself.

>>
>>10240543
Bye Ophelia.
>>
>>10240541
Because the style emerged between those years, dumb-dumb. A dress that follows the characteristics of the style isn't automatically "not oldschool" just because it was released in 2007.

>>
>>10240588
>no matter what your opinion is
"Oldschool with modern items is traditional lolita" is literally a shit opinion Ophelia came up with in order to feed her superiority complex but okay.

>>10240604
