11 is rediculous I wonder how can you even walk in that without tripping over your own socks?
>>10014200
I like 7 best too for loose socks, not too much but also just enough of a loose sock.
Personally I would love to see a revival f the 1989 three fold socks one.
It seems from the chart that it’s sort of cycling back around though as now many school girls like over ankle length socks and scrunch them down which is not too far off from 1989 “3 folded” so maybe in the next 10 years we will be back at loose socks again.

if anyone’s interested, Kazuharuhina @ instagram/Twitter does a lot of “uniform of the day” drawings.

This uniform looks like something out of a Latin american soap opera for teens and tweens that airs on Disney channel(slightly better,probably?)... which is were my interest for uniforms comes from. I think most of them only aired in Latin America,Spain and Italy? Gulls please share your favourite school uniforms from media. What do you guys think of adding patches to blazers/cardigans? Do you personally do it? Do you like using a generic school looking patch, or something that reflects more of your personality/interests?

There are online store for secondhand uniforms, but to weed out the pervs, you have to register with them and show proof of ID to buy from them (I don’t think most of them ship internationally). It probably works the same way for physical shops.

I hate how cheap a lot of the stuff for sale looks. Like the materials look so bad.
I'm also not a fan of blazers with high contrast piping. Even though I know there are uniforms like that, they just look extra costumey to me for some reason.

>>What’s your favourite style? Blazer/Vest, Cardigan/Blouse,Polo Shirt, Sailor?
I really love sailor shirts, especially when under a cardigan. Otherwise a vest and box cut blazer. I've also seen combos of a Blazer with a sailor collar, but I don't know how common those actually are.

thoughts on wearing black leggings with nanchatte?
it's not the same as wearing tights, I know, but I can only find thick leggings, not thick tights. I live in Canada where it can get quite cold.
I wear leggings with rainboots so they get tucked in. I just hope that makes them look close enough to tights. Obviously I try not to wear my leggings with sneakers or loafers, that looks messy.
>>
>>10017675
I think black leggings with rainboots or UGG boots can be a nice combination. When it gets really cold here I wear loose socks over leggings, I find keeping it monochrome is weird but gray leggings with white socks is fine for instance.
>>

how is stuff from lawara shop?
>>
Bodyline is having a 50% off what would be something of decent quality
>>
>>10019800
The skirts are decent sometimes. I bought 4 of them a while back and 3 of them were great and 1 was just okay. I wouldn't suggest the sets... most of them are more costumey than not.
>>
>>10019689
Go to passing-fancy instead. Lawara is just a reseller of CandySugar, which is cheaper to buy direct.

>>
>>10020753
how do you buy CandySugar directly? and, lawarashop seems to have some other stuff that passing-fancy doesn't have, like some styles of sailor uniforms. (i think passing-fancy primarily resells things from cecile)

does anyone have tips on dressing nanchatte even in very cold weather? i need to purchase a parka and nothing seems to have the right aesthetic. it's going to be too cold for a duffel/pea coat. :(
>>
>>10021284
Thermal tights, and maybe socks over them. And for the coats, try getting a very thick woolen coat.
>>
>>10021284
Function over fashion, always. No one cares how cute or perfectly balanced your outfit is if you've got frostbite.
That being said, thermal undershirts, tights and layering jackets help a lot

I would love to have a woolen coat. I think it would match perfectly and I'm probably going to get one to wear in fall/spring. But I think I need something waterproof when it comes to winter.

>>10022579
>Function over fashion
Agreed! I don't stay out long enough to get frostbite, though, so I can sacrifice just a little function, I think. I've been layering as much as I can, but the final piece of the puzzle is a jacket that's right in the perfect intersection of cute and warm.
>>
>>10021284
I have no shame at all in doing this on really cold days where I have to suffer cold for a while but am eventually going indoors not just in nanchatte.
>>
>>10021284
I don't even go here, but as someone who had to wear skirts to school even in cold winters, it's really about the under layers. Keep key areas warm like your chest, your neck and your ears. I used to wear extra shorts under my skirts, over my tights.

Of course, paired with a cute jacket, this will get you to like -15C at most. Colder requires less pretty outerwear unless you're a masochist. Though you can still dress it up cutely, like tie your scarf in a bow or something. I think as long as you have that sort of silhouette/vibes that the school skirt gives off, I would still recognize it as nanchatte.

>>
>>10022602
Wear a raincoat over it? Or,if you're willing to shell out a lot of money,I think that conomi or eastboy have waterproof coats
>>
>>10022631
Hah, I used to wear sweatpants under my uniform skirt like that.

I can suffer the cold to a certain degree, but when it gets to be -25 celsius after wind chill, you get frostbitten in several minutes. If I had a car I think it wouldn't matter much, but I take public transit and often wait up to a half hour for transfers.

>>10021284
I honestly just have a parka and sure it's down to my knees and covers everything cute about my outfit but at least I can wear a cute hat and mitts and stuff. Go for a cute colours like pastel pink or blue if you can find something (I know it's tricky as usually winter stuff is so drab). And for winter boots, make sure you go waterproof and frostproof but maybe with some fluffy trim or pompoms or something.
>>
>>10023257
>wait up to a half hour
Are you waiting aboveground without any shelter? Where I'm from, our trains are largely underground
>>
>>10023321

I'm sorry but that's beyond sheltered and into stupid territory. Even if what you say is true surely you realise other cities depend on buses and above ground rail for public transport.

>>
>>10013941
What would you call the style of the girl on the rights socks?
>>
>>10023988
loose socks
>>
>>10023321
Hahaha, that'd be nice. No, my city is too small for trains, (there used to be street cars in the 60s and those got nixed). And the buses are often late or they skip a scheduled bus and some buses only come once every 30 minutes (1 hr on Sundays). There are bus shelters at some stops, but they're not heated, nor do they have actual doors you can close, they just keep the wind and precipitation off you a little bit.

Seconding the cosplay vibe. She's also contorting herself to show off her waist and bust. You can try the pose for yourself in the mirror. She'll look boxy standing straight unless it's very tight. Aliexpress has some tights you can find with the fuzzy lining inside.
>>
>>10034840
Buying from Aliexpress, ebay, or taobao carries the risk the tights won't fit right if you're taller than 5'4" or have muscular or slightly chubby legs.

Of all the fleece lined tights I've ordered from these places, one fit properly, two fit so-so, the rest had the crotch ride down so bad I couldn't wear them.

H&M IIRC, and Walmart, have both sold fleece lined leggings at some point. And if anyone knows of any sellers that sell "plus size" tights hmu, I want some better colour variation.
>>
>>10034894
I haven't checked this year, but sockdreams has had fleece lined leggings/tights in the past.
>>
Wearing nanchatte (seifuku) out today for the first time. I have a question though, I got this seifuku from bodyline, and it's actually quite nice... except the skirt. For whatever reason the skirt will not stay pleated. Luckily I have one of their separate skirts, which is leagues ahead of the seifuku skirt in quality, but I have seen other girls wearing bodyline seifuku sets and they seem to stay pleated. would perhaps ironing the pleats down help, or am I jsut out of luck? anyone have any bodyline uniform tips?

Also, did anyone buy any of the skirts or sets in the sale? I picked up 3 different skirts and one of their new-ish uniform blouses to try out, i'll let you know what I think about them when they come in. Overall I have pretty good things to say about bodyline's skirt separates, but I'm really not feeling the set skirts right now.
>>

Living in Japan and seeing girls wearing super cute uniforms makes me want to wear nanchatte so bad. I've been to the Conomi store in Harajuku and you're definitely allowed to try on clothes there. I tried on a sailor outfit: skirt, top and ribbon. I don't think they usually get many people at once, so there was great customer service. There was an old woman working there at the time and she was incredibly nice to me. The only thing is, she was so nice that I would have felt bad if I'd left the place empty-handed. And all the stuff is super nice... I ended up buying a school bag, sailor top, and ribbons. So if you're ready to spend all your money there then go for it.

Did she have reddish hair? I love her! I was there last year and talked to her. I went in with a plan to buy a cardigan though so I was ok lol

Hello students
Did anyone happen to own this sakura schoolbag? Is it heavy and with weak hooks or alright quality overall?
I had a really similar "retro" bag and it was impossible for everyday use, had to replace hooks twice..... So I wonder if it's the same.
>>
>>10045240
that was actually made as a cosplay bag, one of mikus school outfits has it
but i mean trivia aside i have nothing to say
>>
>>10045240
I have it but I've never used it because it's literally so narrow that my wallet doesn't fit in it (to be fair my wallet is large). Its literally like an inch front to back. It's very much for looks and not for function. I was pretty disappointed.
>>

Conomi seems like it's the only place that has adequate male nanchatte, so once I get to Japan in the spring that's gonna be the first place I go so I can stop living off of the thrifted pseudo-uniform stuff I have here.
Especially looking forward to getting one of their cardigans.
>>
>>10029540
tfw I have the brown one and haven't worn it yet because I'm too self conscious about wearing nanchatte out, hmmm.

This was my first time trying nanchatte. I really like the style but I'm wondering can I improve at all?
>>
>>10046336
It's a really good first try!

This is just my personal opinion but:

>get a wig that compliments the colors (natural color is best)
>unbutton the bottom 1 or 2 buttons on cardigan to avoid squeezing skirt to death
>different shoes or ditch the leg warmers because both together look odd
>>
>>10046336
The first anon gave pretty good feedback but I'll add that it looks like the skirt pleats need to be ironed and you might be able to get away with the legwarmers if they're a darker color or you change the shoes, the black-white-black transition is just a bit harsh and distracting. The cardigan is really cute, I'd love to know where you got it from. The plush elements are a nice detail.
>>
>>10046336
I think the cardi looks too cosplayish desu. It looks more like a cheapo sweat shirt than a nice knit school cardigan. I'd also ditch the leg warmers. If you really wanted that look, I think loose socks would look better. Also, maybe iron the pleats of the skirt and unbutton the last few buttons on the cardi to prevent the skirt from being pinched in too much. Otherwise, it's good for a first time! I love the little usa on your bag.
>>
>>10046428
I think it was just the sweater making the pleats look so wrinkled. I didn't realize to unbutton the last two.
The cardigan: I found a white cardigan at the thrift store and bravely dyed it pink. I got lucky the pink turned out right. I had to iron on the B.

>>10046497
In what way does it look cosplayish may I ask? I definitely need to get loose socks. I figured the warmers would do for now. The skirt was definitely ironed. I guess the sweater did some major pinching. I'll fix it.
Thank you for the advice! And I wish Usa was more useful and not just a really cute decorative charm
>>
>>10046371
I definitely have natural color wigs, so I'll use those next time. I just wanted to have color that day to try and brighten my mood, ya know?
>>
>>10046643
I said it looks cosplayish because it looks more like a sweatshirt hoodie type material than a good knit cardi. it might just be the picture quality though. I do love the patch on it, and I think you did really well with colors, the only thing a bit off to me colorwise are the leg warmers. I think loose socks would look better. I got a really long pair of loose socks on amazon, surprisingly, and they are great quality. Good luck anon! I actually just started wearing nanchatte out in public recently too.

Thanks for replying guys!
I finally went to the store to try some things on today since I finished work early, I felt weird going there with my work clothes but what the hell.

The shop assistant told me the lucky packs were not random but exactly the same colorways as pictured, which kinda surprised me but now looking at the item descriptions in >>10037649 it was clearly written.
I'll probably get one anyways just to get started, the quality is so good and the packs are kind of a steal. I'll probably sell the backpack too, and then buy some cheaper things to make a well coordinated outfit.
In any case it felt super nice to try on a uniform after thinking of it for so long, I felt cute as fuck. Thanks for the push Anons.

I don't know what Conomi's policy is on photographs but if it's possible could you take some next time you go? I've been dying to see how it looks now.

What’s your work anon? ALT?

Hey gulls, hoping I could ask for some advice here. I have someone in the secret santa exchange who said they wear some nanchatte and while I've pretty much fulfilled my full gift for them I wanted to get them a little something they could use for nanchatte. What would be a good not large item? UTKs? Fleece tights for the winter? I'm guessing I should avoid neck ribbons if I don't know what skirts they have to match? Would looking at normie cardigans work for this fashion if you go a bit large? (Like, they don't work for lolita mostly, but do they work for nanchatte?)

And does brand matter as much with nanchatte? I wear lolita and while offbrand can work, my brand UTKs/OTKs are much better than my offbrand ones, but maybe I've just been buying from the wrong places.

Sorry for all the questions, I just feel a bit dumb with a j-fash I have no experience with. Want to make sure I'm getting them a quality item but also kind of need to stick with something already in the USA so I can get their stuff ready to ship when the last item from Japan arrives soon.
>>
>>10051074
I think a bow could be a good idea as nanchatte in not as matchy-matchy as lolita. You could buy one in a colour you know they like to wear and that would make for a nice gift. Brand or off-brand is not a big deal as long as the item does not look too shiny/costumey/cosplay-ish.
>>
>>10050725
>>10050725
My friend was there in September and she was allowed to take pictures of some items, so I think you can take pictures.
However, it's always better to ask.
>>
>>10051074

Regular cardigans work, oversized vs unoversized is a matter of style, I think. The cardigan in >>10050725 doesn't seem that loose on her, just long.

If you're really stuck for ideas and don't like the idea of gifting a bow tie, then hair accessories are usually okay -- scrunchies, hair ties, cutesy bow clips, as long as you roughly know what colours she likes then it's okay if it's not a 100% match.

Alternatively, you could simply send her some cute stationery or some snacks (if you know what her allergies are/aren't). I know, not very related to nanchatte, but most girls appreciate snacks and cute stationery either way, it's cheap and easy to find.
>>
>>10050725
Sure, they didn't mind me taking pics of myself in the mirror so I don't think they'd have an issue with general pics of the store. I'll probably go back to buy a ribbon after I get my lucky pack, will post then!

>>10050756
I'm a shop assistant at a department store in Umeda, my shop's dress code is a black suit.

>>10051074
Maybe a pretty patch-iron emblem that she can put on a cardigan, blazer or bag? Alternatively, a cute oversized keychain that would look cute dangling from a bag.
>>
>>10051074
It really depends on the shape of the cardi. Normie cardis with a straight neck don't look very nanchatte; likewise a lot of them have a very deep vneck that goes halfway down your torso which leaves a lot of white space for the shirt you wear underneath. Some will work just fine. One of my best cardigans is one I found on a clearance rack in the men's section at Urban Planet.

Brand doesn't matter much for otk's or utk's but it is a matter of fit and comfort. If they're petite they'll have no problems with socks sitting where they should. If not, or if they prefer nicer material like cotton and such, get otk's from Sock Dreams. And fleece tights are a must in winter in colder places.

They're a bit more cosplayish but I really like matching set uniforms

>>
>>10052113
I'm going to be that obnoxious bitch and say i personally wouldn't ever wear nanchatte because i was under the impression that it was restricted to micro skirts. But I would wear the shit out of this.
>>
>>10052628
You must be retarded then, because most nanchatte has nothing to do with fetishy porn skirts.

>micro skirts
If you mean this it's because they've rolled them up at the waist.
Unless you mean what >>10052707 said with the skirts where your ass hangs out. In which that isn't nanchatte, it's just porn wear.
>>
>>10052628
the whole point of nanchatte is that it looks like/is derived from a legit uniform, some of which feature longer skirts. You don't have to roll your skirt if you don't want to, that's mostly a kogal thing and kogal is only a small part (overlap) of nanchatte.

Oh I didn't know. I've seen it as two pieces but the not with the longer skirt and combined into a one-piece.
>>
Gulls- Any examples of outfits that would suit us older girls? Of course Japanese girls are lucky they look young most of the time, but what about a more mature look with nanchatte, can it be done?
>>
>>10054177
I actually think Korean style uniforms suit people who want a more mature look.

Speaking of Korean uniforms, you can rent them now for photos.
I wonder if Japan has similar things for foreigners.
