>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

short term, it's anyone's guess. mine is that the 10yr yields got just shitty enough that people dont want them (under 3%) and big players don't really want to sit in cash due to inflation, so the money flows to one of the only other places it can -- equities.

It's not a head and shoulders. The shoulders aren't supposed to be roughly level with the top of the head. There was a double top, dump, nominally lower high, dump, and now today's green dildo on a rope. The lower trend line held, which is why there was good buy volume towards end of day.

Calling pivot point for the dude weed sector. Aphria's run in with yellow biz short slime accelerated the pattern. I was thinking the bear market on large Canadian dude weed would continue in to early 2019 on a gentle downward slope, more or less. But now thanks to the madness, the trend support was hit and held with prejudice. Now, the bearish trend could continue but I think the coming days should see a lot of buy volume because of this to give a reversal a solid try.

you pay taxes on divvies as you get them. it's to your tax advantage (especially when you're young) to own more growth stocks and less dividend payers, so your gains grow exponentially and are not taxed until you sell.

Also not a cup and handle. The peaks are supposed to be roughly level, not askew like this. Cup n' handle can be a scary pattern to trade as it looks just like, and technically is, a double top with a drop off. You don't get confirmation until the big green or red break off it.

I tried this earlier, and got a few ideas. What should I stuff my retirement portfolio (IRA and then more on the side) with? Considering pic related and narrowed it down to O, KO, MSFT, MDLZ, LMT, JNJ, MMM, HON, WM, MCD and the rest in VT. Thinking 50% VT and the rest 5% each.

I did the math and it comes out to 63% 5 year growth with a 2.5% dividend on average with a low af beta. Beats the S&P 500 in all 3 metrics. Am I on to something or am I missing something?

I also want to dump in dude weed MJ and NRZ for shiggles maybe.

I know it's a good idea. So what is the play? Is there a desert Oasis REIT or something? Some company that has proven reserves in an area with relatively high water scarcity?
>>

I don't either
I see water utilities as a way to profit from the fact that the US' water infrastructure is in need of repair and as a dependable hedge for my portfolio

If you put it in dividend growth stocks like:

KO, SBUX, JNJ, AAPL, MSFT, PG, JPM, LOW (or just look up Dividend Kings and Contenders)

you will eventually get $800 per month of that initial investment even without reinvesting dividends (you'll get there faster if you do).

nice work. as someone who's on their way to making it, a few points of advice:

1. Don't let lifestyle inflation/creep get in the way of scheduled payments. spend on yourself but understand the main goal.
2. http://www.moneychimp.com/calculator/compound_interest_calculator.htm Compounding interest calculators are a good way to see where you want to go and how to get there. also a good way to keep you interested in saving for retirement and possibly retire early
3. don't buy anything recommended by /smg/ that doesn't have a market cap of at least $1B.
4. Don't let bitches know how much money you saved.

Should have I had sex with her and lost my virginity? Yes. But the lashing marks from the stick were so satisfying.
She agreed to 20, right across the ass. I had her count them out loud
>1 sir, 2 sir, 3 sir
By 20 she was trembling
I cupped her face in my hands and kissed her nose, and told the cum dumpster of a whore I'd give her 50 cents for each lashing after.
We got to 50 lashings before she finally gave up.
Then we got in my car and drove out to an abandoned house, she rubbed my crotch on the way there, dancing little loops across the head of my penis with her soft hands.
We got out of the car and I facefucked her until no tomorrow, smacking my cock across her pale white face. I eventually came on her chest and demanded she eat it, which she did.

That was a good night, it's a shame she's in prison now lmao

Possible day trade idea for tomorrow. Organigram have earnings call scheduled for morning before market opens. They lost a hefty chunk on the dude weed dumpening, good recovery today but still well short of long term rising trend. Last quarters earnings were very good. This quarters have no reason to be less good. It good pump decently for a few hours, maybe hit the gas and plow through resistance if things are going really well.

It's iffy on account of it did not hold the break above long term trend today for close. However, there is reason to believe dude weed sector as a whole may be on the cusp of bullish reversal if >>12033916 holds true.

Conservative entry would be to wait to see if it breaks above $42(CAN). That would put it above both ascending and descending trends and signal tentative bulls that the time is right.

Canopy Growth put out a news release this morning that I think got overlooked a bit during all the mania today. They're buying out Storz & Bickel for $220m.

Storz & Bickel is a German company, best known for manufacturing dry media vaporizers like the Volcano and handheld Mighty. They were the go-to vaporizer brand before Arizer hit the scene with versions that (arguably) worked just as well for around 40% cheaper retail price. If Canopy had bought out Arizer instead, I think that would have been much bigger news. Nevertheless, S&B is a quality dry vape manufacturer with a good international reputation and a solid get for Canopy.

you can only look irrational in retrospect. if you're the first person to short sell the panic, you look like a genius. if there's a rally instead, you look like a dickhead.

and keep in mind (EVERYONE needs to keep in mind) the rally this afternoon was caused first and foremost by signals that the Fed's grip on the money supply next year will be looser than previously expected. not market fundamentals or economic strength, it was just optimism and assumption of more inflated asset prices, and cheaper leverage, to give a softer landing to a decelerating economy. inflation should be a lot of fun, buckle up and wear a fucking helmet kiddos.

Imagine panic selling at the bottom today.

>why did you buy IRM?
not for a good reason, pardon the long answer. i sold some old mutual funds and consolidated all of my investments under Vanguard, leaving me with about $75K cash. i decided, rather than just index it, i would have fun and build a custom portfolio, focused on dividends and diversified by payment date. i want to get a dividend every day, so that no matter what, i'm getting paid every day just for investing. since i had no individual stocks i started from scratch.

i polled my friends and told them i'd buy 100 shares or approximately $5K worth of whatever they told me to, without contesting it. friend #1 works for iron mountain as an art handler. so he picked IRM, and I bought the shares.

what's their future? if i knew i would sell, or double down. :)

wish i had a more useful answer but maybe the most useful answer is the truth. i can't lie to you. i believe in the random walk.

Really don't understand this mentality at all. Find a shit ton of East Euro and Indian/SE Asian women on FB and add them and chat with them if you see they speak English. >5.5% Yield

I won't even look at anything under 7%.

Dividend-heavy stocks usually price-drop with the ex date. Your $20 stock with a $0.50 dividend will open at $19.50, plus now you owe taxes on the $0.50.
>>
>>12038050
Huh? Even if that was the case I could just sell faster than everyone? The price can't drop instantly. As long as I sell it first I would still make some profit?

Oh my god, please try and outsell literal bots that operate on the fastest internet speed offered to man, you fucking knob.

not only that, pretty much all brokers sell order flow to high frequency traders
>>
>>12038083
the marketmaker corrects the price during premarket so you have no chance
However of course there is the chance the stock moves up during the day. If you have no income (for tax) like a neet and an autistic knowledge about dividend aristocrats you might do this successfully

aren't most of these high reratedenquincy traders bots?

So how do I sell things faster? Seems like if I could sell things very fast I could basically 100% guarantee a return. When I sell something where does the order go? Stock market? Can I move to same city as stock market to speed it up and also get something like Google Fiber?

>>12038222
yep, bots are better at it than humans

How do I become a market maker? This is very interesting subject. I'm surprised people are wasting their time with picking stocks when you can just be faster and smarter than everyone else to make money using dividends.
>>
>>12038247
you have to go to Market maker school
>>
>>12038247
I live off of my dividends. Please listen. You are in for a rude awakening. That's simply not how it works. If you'd like to just throw money away, I'll give you a PO box you can send it all to.

You have to be able to make a market in under 30 seconds without the instruction manual or a youtube tutorial to get your license

also, am I retarded or are you not making 8% a quarter? It would be 2% a quarter for a total of 8 for the year, right?
>>
>>12038247
to become a market maker, you must sell and buy on both sides. It takes a ton of capital and relationships, but it's not that hard if that's what your lifes work is going to be.
>>
>>12038247
pass your series 57, then you get hired by any of the big brokers, NASDQ to become a DMM
theres nothing too special about it, you get some amount of pay depending on your contract, a % of the liquidity provided.

your taking on a risk in most of these jobs for supplying liquidity.
you can be a private MM, many brokers like TDameritrade will give you bonuses depending on how much capital you push monthly
all you have to do is remain mostly neutral on your trades
>>
>>12038342
In that example, yes, your math is correct. Yields are annualized. 8% yield = 2% per quarter = 0.66% per month (some stocks pay monthly dividends)
