Hey guys do you think my cat needs to lose weight? She's 10 and doesn't do much anymore besides bite people and cuddle with my dad
>>
>>3109060
That's quite the chonk.
Yeah she could lose a bit of weight, what type of food does she eat?
>>
>>3109061
She eats meow mix dry food and my mom treats her to some kind of canned food, half a can, once a day. I told her to stop giving the canned food but I don't live there so I can't stop her. I was thinking of getting them a dog harness for her so they can take her on walks or something

My cat has a thyroid condition, what should I feed him? He is very thin. No vets

Make good wet food her main food, high protein low fat is best to keep her statisfied with less calories. Use a little bit of dry food for playtime, like try if she runs after the pieces if you throw them through the room or if you can motivate her to search for pieces you hide. 10 is no age to only lay around.

this is a thread about cats, not about human living standards. if the cat is happy living there, stop being a whiny cunt and post your own cat for a change
>>
Help me to understand my cat.
Example:
>we(humans) are laying in bed ready to sleep
>she hops in, starts milk stepping and purring
>I try to reach my hand to pet her cause she's absolute cuteness
>she declines my hand, says 'mrrr' and goes to purr under the bed
Cat enjoys pets in regular but then why she does this?? She's visibly enjoying her time with us but still goes away under the bed. She comes at night\early morning to sleep with us or for pets and she's affectionate when just woke up.
Another example is when she laying on the floor, meows to me, and when I get up and go to her she says mrr and runs away.
>>
>cat gives me love bite on the nose
>that love bite gets purchase on the inside of my nostril
>even with very little force behind it, it's eye wateringly painful
I was struck suddenly by the huge amount of trust I place in my cat. While she couldn't kill me, she could easily do permanent damage while we're face to face. Does anyone else do something similar? The realization of trust was an extremely weird sensation, granted my cat and I are basically aliens compared to each other. At the same time, she's obviously trusting me a lot too when she lets me scratch her tummy, or literally grab her (extremely gently) around her throat. Feels like it'd be almost rude to not show her I trust her as well. I wonder if she can register the trust I put in her.

Also, in case anyone wants to call me out, I'm always aware of her body language. I know it's still possible that she could lash out at me, but I've raised her from a kitten and I'm pretty well aware of what her body language is telling me when she's feeling frisky.
>>
>>3110325
Cats do what they want, when they want. They have personality quirks like humans do. It might just be that she wants affection but only on her terms. If she's choosing to be in the same room as you and relaxing, that's still a compliment. She could be anywhere else at that moment and she chooses to be near you -- even if she doesn't necessarily want physical contact.

Today, I found out that my most beloved cat got hit by a car deadly.

I know that one's supposed to like all cats/children/whatever equally but if one's honest, that's just not possible. He was very cheeky (or sassy? English is not my first language) and trustful. He also brought home many birds which he ate when I was watching.

I will bury him at a river tomorrow early morning when nobody's watching because it's illegal around here. His brothers will miss him.

>>
>>3110340
>Implying that was the implication.
>>
>>3110332
I guess, my cat is princess type, her being purebreed british doesn't help. I was trying to make her to get used to human laps by giving treats and it kinda working, she has to reach a treat by standing on my laps. But otherwise, I guess we just need to accept her personality.
>>
>>3108970
Kittens can be a lot of work, but I don't regret having gotten my girl as a kitten. That said, now that I'm more familiar with cats in general, I'd probably go for an adult. Also, if you care, the adoption outlook for adult cats is generally really poor. Many people want a cute little purr ball but dump the adult creature back into the system when it's no longer a baby. Many cats end up being put down because there just simply isn't a demand compared to kittens. All said, an adult cat will likely be less work to handle, but you kind of have to know what to look for. A feral adult cat would likely not be a good fit for a first time cat caretaker. You could likely explain that to the shelter and ask them to show you adult cats which were released directly to the shelter by owners. They probably know who the real sweethearts are and will likely love you for your interest in the adults. It's up to you though. I don't personally subscribe to the kind of moral absolutism some people do where adopting cats is concerned. Do what feels right, but just make sure you do it right.
>>
>>3110359
Yeah you really just gotta accept the creature for what it is, it can't help its nature. In my own opinion, part of what makes cats so amazing is that they're still wild enough to care about their own desires more than they'll ever care about yours. You can try to incentivize your cat all you want -- nothing wrong with that -- but I think cultivating a sense of the cat's own innate and absolute agency is helpful as well. Gotta see what the creature really is before you can appreciate what it really is.
>>
>>3110375
>Kittens can be a lot of work
Lol no, unless they don't have a mother.

If they have a mother to show them how to hunt and an according, save surrounding, they'll develop to become your most beloved cats ever.
>>
>>3110380
Kittens test their environment. They test their boundaries, of what's acceptable for them to do. My cat used to try to chew through coaxial and power cables as a kitten. Kittens have way more energy and need a lot of attention compared to adult cats, who tend to mellow out as they grow older. How is this not more work?

Hello anons, I saw a homeless woman with a kitten yesterday, discovered she only just got a hold of it. She was obviously crazy and a frequent drug user, I tried to offer $40 and a gram of weed for the cat, but she refused because it would keep her warm at night.
What drug and amount can I offer that will likely make her change her mind, at all? Or if not, I'd there anyone I can call to get the kitten taken away from her? Even all her homeless buddies were saying she cant look after it.

Anyone know a good site to try to get a stray cat adopted? I've already tried Craigslist but I have to compete with people giving away little kittens.

The cat is I think 1 years old and hangs around my house. He will lay on my doormat for pets but I have a dog that could get to it so I want it to have a safe home. I let the cat come into my house when my dog is sleeping in my room and roam around and he would make a great indoor cat.

This is what the cat looks like. I'm near the Los Angeles area.

I got a young cat/old kitten day before yesterday. I want to have it make frens w dog. I put the cat in its carrier, and bring the dog in; dog sniffs the cage, I give it treats for being a good boy---the cat growls and even smacked the cage once.

I am afraid for the cat---I dont want it to start a fight w the dog. How can I get the cat to be nice? My attention is mostly on keeping the dog calm. I expect I will have to do these meetings for 2-4 weeks.

Pic related, said cat being a goofball
>>
>>3111076
Don't do that. Cats hate enclosed spaces and being cornered by a big scary dog will just make them anxious.

If anything put the dog in the kennel and let the cat come up at its own pace. Or just put them in the same room and keep a very very close eye on them. Make sure the dog doesn't get too friendly. Once the cat is familiar with the environment, you, the dog, and just everything in general it will calm down. Cats typically do not start fights. They get into fights with other cats over territory.

i have a 20 year old cat with recurring dental infections, hes seen several vets for it and they all agree that the only thing i can do is either have his remaining teeth removed which would probably be hard on him at this age or just leave it be and give him painkillers as needed. its a pretty even split of some pushing harder for one option over the other and i dont know what to do at this point, i dont want him to live the rest of his life in pain but the possibility of complications during surgery really worries me, especially with all the stories ive heard of older cats passing during it or having a very difficult recovery

So there was this wild mama cat who was hanging around my house a couple months back, she had three kittens, one died, the other I rescued, and the third wouldn't let me near it at all. The one I rescued basically spent an entire month in bad condition, in and out of the vet, he was in really rough shape for awhile there and it took a lot of effort to get him healthy again(anemic, worms, bad flea infestation, looked like he was attacked and had puncture wounds full of maggots, pink eye in both eyes), the other surviving sibling is easily three times as big as him. Is he going to be smol forever? :(

hey /kot/, i need some advice. theres this stray whos been around here since 2010/2011 named blackbeard. back in 2012, he disappeared and never came back until just these last few months. hes old as hell and sickly looking, and i dont know what to do. i really really wanna take him in and give him a good home to live out the last few years of his life, but at the same time i cant bring him in due to the risk of him getting my indoor cats sick, and i cant afford vet bills for him due to being a poorfag and knowing that his vet bills are probably gonna be something that are impossible for me to pay currently, and it makes me feel terrible. poor guys obviously attention starved, as he wants nothing but pets and cuddles and will ignore any food i give him if it means getting affection, and i really dont want him to die alone in a ditch somewhere. does anyone know what to do?

Cat's only really use their teeth for breaking down large prey so if you feed raw chicken wings as a snacks he might miss those, otherwise nearly nothing changes. Just switch to smaller kibble if you feed that.

Lingering infection and pain medication can cause other issues, in a 20 year old that might not be important anymore so if it works, okay.
But in a younger cat I would get rid of all teeth at the first sign of infection, this disease sounds like it always comes back and the more it advances the more difficult it gets to get rid of.

My cat won't wash her asshole properly. No, she's not fat, either - physically she's perfectly capable of doing it, but just doesn't seem to know or care how to. She does the typical violin ass-cleaning thing after using the box, but only very briefly and rarely enough. Sometimes I'll clean her with a damp cloth, but she hates that. Any ideas?

How can I get my cats to get along? I got two cats from the shelter back in March, both just over a year and a half old now, one male and one female. After a few weeks the female started actively bullying the male, and he's just too much of a sweetheart to fight back. He won't sit with me anymore because she comes around to kick him out and demand my attention. There are times when she just really has it out for him and will chase him around the house and slap him around. I've taken to giving her timeouts when I see it happen, but sometimes she'll just go right back to it when I let her out. I've been using the Feliway hormones for a few months and it's hard to tell if it's working. I try to get both of them active with toys and such to burn off energy, but what more can I do to decrease her aggression?

Contrary to popular belief cats are solitary creatures and mostly prefer to be alone in a territory. You can work to train them to tolerate one another, but likely there will always be some kind of tension between the two of them. The best thing would be to make sure they each have their own spaces, try to intervene when it seems there will be issues, and use positive reinforcement to encourage good behaviors. Keep up with the feliway, and sometimes having them play together can help
>>
>>3112038
Get him to a vet and possibly from there to a shelter man. You don’t have to pay the vet bills even. I found a stray once who was out in the cold, and I got him in a carrier and to the vet. I told the vet I couldn’t keep him (my apartment was no pets) and explained the situation. He got some medical care and was put in a shelter. If you are really freaked out the vet will hold you accountable, drop him off and run. But honestly I wouldn’t worry about that. I think most vets got into the practice because they want to do right by animals and I think many of them will do what they can given the situation.
>>

Most vets are fucking tired of shitty owners that have $50 and want them to save the day.

If it likes you it doesn't matter what age. One thing to consider is that if you get another cat, it's easier for a kitten to adapt to the house than for 2 full growns to get used to each other. Something to keep in mind.

Hello Guys,

I know, I'm sure that's true. I've never been in the industry, but I have friends who are and some of the shit I've heard from them makes me die inside. Still, if the animal clearly needs medical attention and is not so feral it cannot be handled, I'm giving anon the best advice I can think of to save its life and possibly get it long term care. I don't think Blackbeard is going to get cancer surgery from a random vet or anything, but if it needs basic inexpensive medication my guess is a lot of vets will just go ahead and do it, or refer it to a shelter's / humane society's vet after diagnosis.

I'm not saying it's an ethical thing to do to dump the animal off at some vet. But neither is it ethical to just let it die, even if money is an issue - and I think most vets and all legitimate shelters will understand that.
>>
>>3113405
Also, a vet will have a scanner. If the dude went missing in 2012 and is as friendly as anon says, there is a good chance he is chipped at this point and they may well be able to contact the owner. If he's an old dude, he may have been living quite comfortably for a few years up until the last couple of weeks and has gotten lost.

>My cat used to try to chew through coaxial and power cables as a kitten.
How did you stop it, or did it just grow out of it? And when? My cat chews through cables like a fucking gremlin and nothing has helped. At this point she's chewed through a half dozen ethernet cables and a few USB cables. Anything less hardy than coax can't be exposedin the apartment, and I have to use cable runners and vinyl tubing for any wires that have to be ran.
>>
>>3113392
Cats don't have to chew, they have teeth to cut large pieces of meat and break bones. As soon as something is small enough to swallow they just swallow, that's normal.
Dry food comes into contact with fluids in the stomach and soaks these up so the portion gets bigger after eating. If the cat ate until full, she'll be more than full after it soaked and she might puke. Switching to wet food or letting the kibble soak beforehand should prevent it.

>always asking for food
Most likely he's hungry. Feed as much as he wants but try smaller portions with some time in between. Also look for food with high animal protein, on too much carbs and fat they sometimes can even go fat but stay hungry.
If that doesn't help I'd check for thyroid issues.
>>

Cutting it a little around her butt might help her clean herself.

It's funny when non-cat people talk about how their cats are so mean because they'll play bite or give warning nips for touching their stomachs. I've worked with feral cats and let me tell you, if they actually wanted to fuck us up they're very capable of doing so. When I was interning I had one feral launch from a counter to dig its claws into a coworker's face, narrowly missing her eyeball and instead puncturing the lower lid. She had a black eye for two weeks and looked like a domestic abuse victim.

>>3110767
Don't get any with that fake fleece shit unless you're getting it dirt cheap, like <$40. It wears off quickly, and the construction tends to be more rickety and low-quality in general. Bigger is not necessarily better either, because if the tree shakes the cat won't feel safe going on the higher levels. Look for trees covered in actual carpet, like this: https://www.costco.com/New-Cat-Condos-4-level-Cat-Lounger.product.100423046.html

They're more expensive but will last you a lot longer. I got a ~6ft Bob Cat brand tree at Sam's Club for $40 on clearance. New Cat Condos, Whisker City, and You & Me all tend to make good products.

Tbh, I'd leave it and give abx + buprenorphine long-term if he seems comfortable that way. If he's actually 20 he'll almost certainly die within the next year. If not actually 20, I've seen many 15-18 year old cats that did fine under anesthesia and post-surgery. Anesthetic deaths are extremely rare in decent practices.

But a good samaritan trying to do right by a stray is different from Poorfag Fucko #8093 who decides to own 6 pets he can't afford and only seeks medical attention when they're on death's door from completely preventable issues. Both. She doesn't mind the spray, and the tape helps keep her from pulling up carpet for awhile but eventually she starts chewing on it. We got her a legit dog chew toy and she likes it and chews on it a lot of nights, but if she finds an exposed cable she'll go to town.

I’m the guy who suggested he take the animal to a vet. Yes, exactly, that was my experience, is that someone trying to do right by a friendly stray is different than someone who is just irresponsible.

Back in oh, 2009 or so? There was a white stray outside my buddies place. He said it had been out there for several weeks at least. It was early spring and over the last few days we had a cold snap - essentially freezing rain and sleet. This guy looked to be in really rough shape - part of his tail was skeletal and I think he wound up loosing the tips of his ears to frostbite. He was so friendly. My buddy had a cat and could not take it in because of the risk of transmitting disease to his cat. My apartment was no pets. My friend had an extra carrier he was willing to give me, so I got him in to the carrier. He spent the night with me and the next morning I took him to the vet and explained the situation and let them know up front that I didn’t have much money but I couldn’t just let the thing stay outside and probably freeze to death or starve. They were really gracious about it.

He turned out to be chipped, but this was about the 3rd time something like this had happened to him, so he was not returned to his owner. He was taken To a shelter. The shelter folks really wanted me to take him, in spite of the no pets policy. I wanted to so bad. I asked everyone I knew, but no one would take him, and even though my wife wanted him, she was more nervous about the prospect that we could be kicked out for not following the rules.

Someone else DID eventually take him from the shelter, so it worked out. Happy story. But the main thing I wanted to convey was that I really think talking to the vets, most of them will understand the Good Samaritan and help out as opposed to the douchebag owner you described.

Hi guys, I have a problem with my cat I'm hoping you can help me with. Ever since our kitchen had to be taken apart due to an emergency, she's refused to use her litter boxes that are kept in a small room off to the side of the kitchen. She's been going on the furniture and under beds. The boxes are kept clean and she WILL use them if you put her in one, but she's stressed the entire time and she runs from the room/through the kitchen and back into the living room the second she's done. Since the renovation wasn't planned and our house was suddenly swarming with strangers, and a month later things still aren't back to normal (insurance being a dick) we're fairly confident she just finds the changes too scary. She tries to avoid the kitchen in general if she can. My questions are:

-What are the odds that once the kitchen is fixed she'll go back to using the litter boxes on her own?
-If low, what can I do to encourage her without stressing her any further? There's only two spaces on the side of the house she's been hiding in I can try moving a litter box into to help her get acclimated to using them again: a small unused closet and the second bathroom. Boyfriend doesn't like the idea of having a litter box in the bathroom but I will fight him on this if it'll help the cat and potentially save the fucking furniture.
-Is our furniture just fucked? We've been using Rocco and Roxie and it works 75%ish of the time at getting the odor and stain out, but it's after multiple uses and she STILL tries to go on the couch. We've talked about getting a cleaning company out but I've read that's not a good idea since they usually use steam and that can lock the odor in? Currently we've just put the boxes full of the stuff we had to pack away onto the furniture to keep her off, but she still sometimes finds a way to squeeze in.

Ty for your assistance. If it matters she's about 9 years old.

My cat keeps rolling around all over the purse where I keep my perfume. Last time she did it, she wound up smelling just like it. It’s been a couple weeks since then and she never showed any symptoms. I just put my perfume back in my bag, and now she’s trying to roll all over it again.

Is this something I should be worried about? I don’t want her getting the scent on her body and then getting sick from licking it off.

The bottle says the ingredients are “Alcohol Denat., Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Fragrance, Water.”

Guys,I need help.
My cat, who is around 10 years old, started eating the dirt in the plants I have on the balcony.
So I stopped letting her out to the balcony thinking "what a weird dumbass", and now she's eating her litter.
I poked around online and from that + my intuition I think it's some sort of dietary deficiency.
Thing is she's been eating the same food for years, which hasn't given her any problems, so it's weird for a dietary deficiency to suddenly pop up.
What should I do? What should I feed her in addition to her dry cat food?
>>
god i want a cat so fucking bad
>>
>>3114037
It's not weird at all to get a deficiency when you eat the same food for your entire life, things like that take years to show. Like with taurine you might not notice until the cat gets blind or heart issues at around 14.
Don't trust bought food too much, give her several brands and different types, maybe even a frozen mouse or raw chicken wing every now and then.
>>
>>3114010
Get cat some wheat grass to eat.
>>
>>3113950
Feeding and cleaning the litter are obvious necessities. Spraying/neutering when the cat is of age.
Besides that, play with the cat every now and then. Pick it up every so often. That gets it accustomed to human contact. It's not a huge time investment, just giving it a pet or two whenever you pass it in the house or it approaches you gets it more accustomed. You don't have to set aside hours for it, it's something you do on the side.
A new kitten might piss on the carpet or puke somewhere occasionally. Normally a cat will prefer the litterbox naturally for the former, so it may be a sign that the litterbox is dirty or it does not know where the litterbox is, just set it in the litterbox every now and then, but the puking you'll just have to get used to reacting to in time.
Be careful with leaving tilt windows open unsupervised, they're deathtraps for cats.
Also give the kot some space every now and then. The personality of your cat will still develop. You might get a cuddly social type, or a more distant calm cat. You never know in advance.

The only convenient place for my cat's litter box is in the corner of the dining area (live in an apartment). We have an enclosed box so it's not like there's just shit lying out, but when she uses it sometimes it'll just reek for a little bit afterwards before the litter can take the edge off. There's a grated hole in the top for ventilation, and I've been thinking about using a computer fan and a carbon filter or something to pull air through it after she uses the box to try to take the edge off. I just can't decide if it'd make things better or worse, and if having a fan whirl up when she goes in would deter her from using the box. Any thoughts?

Cats generally don't get along because of their competitive nature, don't fall for the buddy cat meme or you will end up with a depressed fat duo of cats.

If you want two cats adopt them as kitten so they grow up together and they need to do EVERYTHING together, so don't give them each their own litter box.

Don't adopt kittens of different gender, cats even if they are of the same family, they don't have the concept of blood ties I hope this makes obvious what it means.

Neuter then asap when they grow up so they don't fight for space.

It is important that they get along because otherwise they will live depressed and one will be bullied by the other, we humans can't sense or see it all the time(some owners are so irresponsible they never see it and think, that one cat is shy and the other is agitated...).

Best way to know if they get along: give them each their own water boil when they grow up and see if THE TWO(important) of them switch boils around from time to time, this indicates that they don't care where they drink from.
>>
>>3115102
Also yes, it matters if one comes after the other unless its a kitten, once a cat determined this is his house he won't share.
Better get two the same day.

contact the local rescues. Odds are you will have to call the animal control that covers your area, the officers don't like dealing with this so they will make up shit and give you the run around, just talk to the local shelter volunteers to figure out which place you might have to go/call and what to expect. Then once you've figured out which animal control office to call and where the cat will end up (and if you are comfortable with that) you call the officer and tell them you have a friendly stray that's been hanging around for a few days and can he get it or can you drop it off. If he tries to say you're outside of their jurisdiction and you're pretty sure they're not threaten to contact the city/mayors office/whatever

>is it an okay idea to adopt an adult and get a kitten?
Kittens ned to play a lot and an older cat might feel annoyed and later maybe scared by the constant 'attacks' of the kitten. So if you do this, choose an active adult cat that is as close to kitten age as possible to prevent trouble. Same sex pairs also tend to get along better, because they have a higher chance of playing alike. It really depends on the character though, and with a kitten you won't really know until it's grown up.

That's also why two kittens work very well and get along fast at first but sometimes turn out to be the wrong combination at around a year or two, like if one really loves to cuddle and fight and the other one would prefer no body contact at all. Have an eye on that and just in case be prepare you'll might have to 'change' cats or rehome one if they don't get along.
But a single kitten still is the worst option if there's not someone at home almost all day and its humans (bad idea in a single household if you do have a job and hobbies or value sleep) can't keep up giving it the huge amount of attention it needs to not develop behaviour problems.

Also reminder that you shouldn't get a kitten that spent less than 12 weeks, better 16, with its family because they still learn things you might not be able to teach them, you'll want a well socialized cat in a two cat household (older ones better be proven social with cats, too) and a very small kitten can be overrun by a older, stronger cat if you choose that combination.

(1/2)
>>
>>3115400
>>3115102
(2/2)

A single, older cat usually works fine as long as you can offer enough social contact and entertainment. Expecially younger 'old' ones require a good amount of playtime like chasing, fighting and hunting games, cuddling and general attention. Even if you don't see it as a chore and can skip a few days of it if you're stressed or something without problems, you should be aware it's a responsibility you take just like feeding. Otherwise your cat might turn into depressed living furniture or get stressed which can cause damage.
So if no one is home much, better get a really old cat like 10+ or one that is known to not need much human attention and will probably do fine most of the day on its own.

Two older cats from different places with well known fitting characters that are known to be social usually work well, too. Older already bonded pairs are also an option but their dynamic can change due to the new territory.

All in all you can have some bad luck with your plan but it's not nearly as bad as >>3115108 makes it sound, at least if you are willing to give it a second try and don't just throw unfitting cats together that haven't had friendly contact with another cat since they were 8 weeks old.
If it works well, you'll have to worry less about entertainment, lonelyness and brushing/cleaning ears. Worth a try or two.

My landlord is cheap so he's coming in tomorrow to swap out all my faucets, showerheads, and toilets with ones that consume less water

He won't give a specific time, so I need to secure my two cats for the whole day while I'm at work

If I lock them in my bedroom will they piss and shit, or will they hold it until the litter box is available again? Don't really want to put the litter box in my bedroom because they throw the gravel around like motherfuckers

[I would've just scheduled a vet visit for the day to catch up on vaccinations and what not, but landlord gave me notice on Friday evening like a douche, and my vet is closed all weekend]
>>
Give some kot medical advice please...my cat nacho threw up three times yesterday after eating his food. Throwing up from eating quickly isn't unusual from him, but that's more of a once every two weeks kind of thing. Three times in a night is weird. Then today he hasn't had much of an appetite, ate a couple of bites all day and that's it. He threw up just clear slightly foamy liquid midday today...but other than that he still has lots of energy and hasnt slowed down at all. He's just as playful as he always is, and his poops have looked normal...any idea what's going on? The vet over the phone recommended to keep food away for a day and slowly reintroduce it back. I'm doing that, but even after not eating for the day he isn't too jazzed about food.

Doesn't have to be something bad but even minor issues can cause problems later in life if left untreated. A general health check every now and then isn't a bad idea in case you overlooked things or just to get the cat used to vet visits.

My girlfriend and I just moved in together and have been living in our new place for a little over 2 months now.

She has a cat who
>isn't very social
>but demands someone watch him eat or else he just...won't ever eat

What's his deal? He was like this at her old apartment before, so it's not new behavior.

He doesn't like hanging out very much (I work at home so I try giving him attention when I can...he's not super receptive) but he needs one of us next to him to eat.
>>
>>3117152
I don't think this is super unusual. I have one who needs to be watched to eat. What I do now is move her bowl to wherever I'm going to be for the next few minutes.

If you do a bit of searching it's likely you'll find that most people think it's because cats are more vulnerable while they are eating, and they like having a second pair of eyes around. Me, I'm not sure, but it comes up every now and then so I don't think it is unusual.

some people say wet food is worse for teeth (marginally, also doesn't matter if you brush like you should), but everyone agrees it's better for her general health for a number of reasons. less filler, water intake is always good, etc. it's also probably easier to portion for a fat shit like her.

>>

"He" can't be a calico because only females are calico. He's a tabby. If you've seen a few calicos and tortoise shells you'll know they're not just tabbies
>>
>>3117152
Over the long haul that's not necessarily a bad thing. Cats can stop eating if they get sick, and if you're used to leaving food down you might not notice for a day if they've stopped.
>>
>>3117372
They can be, it's just incredibly rare.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calico_cat
>Because genetic determination of coat colors in calico cats is linked to the X chromosome, calicos are nearly always female, with one color linked to the maternal X chromosome and a second color linked to the paternal X chromosome.[2][3] In most cases, males are only one color (for instance, black) as they have only one X chromosome. Hence, they cannot be calico, unless they are affected by a rare genetic condition called Klinefelter syndrome, which gives them two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome. In addition to other symptoms caused by the condition, these male calicos are often sterile.

>>3117326
That, sir is a Cat™ brand cat. Enjoy. They make the best cats.
>>
>>3117352
I am just asking a question. Also, calico is not a breed. Its just a color combo usually only linked to females(with the exception of males having xxy.
>>
>>3117230
anon you are talking to retards who don't understand how calico genetics work.

First of all, it is not a breed. Second of all, calicos can be tabby, third of all, the fact he has any orange black and white at the same time makes him a calico because it is impossible to have black fur, white fur and orange fur at once without two x chromosomes. So he has an extra x chromosome. Congrats on your rare kot.
>>
>>3117398
That is what I figured. He will probably be sterile, and even if he wasn't you can not breed for this afaik, but I wonder what other issues can happen with klinefelter male cats.

Wait, you're supposed to brush your cat's teeth?
>>
>>3117548
A lot of them have problems with gingivitis and tooth decay. I am supposed to brush one of mines teeth per the vet, but it’s been hard to remember. She isn’t too bad about it, she squirms a bit but it’s easy for me to get her canines. It’s mush harder for me to get her smaller teeth. I’d like to pick up the finger cap (saw a pic here, maybe earlier in this thread even). As it stands I just use my finger because she hates the actual brush.
>>
>>3117548
>>3117615
It's also preventative care since cats are prone to dental problems. The gingivitis usually doesn't happen instantly and out of nowhere. It's a lot cheaper and less stressful than having to pay fatty cleaning costs or other, worse bills if it gets bad enough without you noticing. If you can't or are that lazy, at least give them dental treats, real, enzymatic ones, not just the ones that claim they help tooth decay because of chewing.

Problem is he has a food allergy that we haven’t figured out yet. Wet food causes him to lick all his fur off. We found one kind of dry food that doesn’t cause a reaction. Even wet food for sensitive skin causes him to overgroom.

It’s taken months for his tummy fur to grow back. It used to be damn near bald.

Over-grooming is not typically an allergy issue, is actually an anxiety issue. Have you talked to the vet about a Prozac trial? Definitely do not change the food or give any treats for at least 6 months, then add new things in one-by-one.

In the meantime, the recommendation still stands that you should feed less and keep a stricter schedule, your cat needs to lose some weight

There's not any evidence that Munchkins are more prone to health issues than any other breed, and often it's the breeder associations are on the forefront of health research in cats. Any good breeder will remove a pairing if a kitten develops a congenital issue (and sometimes even cancel extended relatives' pairings, depending on the issue), and increasingly good breeders can test for major congenital issue before a pairing takes place. One thing cat breeding has that dog breeding does not is acceptable outcrossing, which strengthens the gene pools of pure breeds
