When you think about it, there's no reason why a dog would be unable to learn human speech, if you sat down and taught it.

Dogs don't even hear human speech the way we do.
>>
>>2918026
ever tried to tech a chinaman English? Even a willing one?
it's hard even if you speak mandarin.
while, depending on race, dogs are equally as smart or dumber than chinamen, you don't speak dog.
>>
yeah and you could learn some gills if a fish sat down and taught you
>>
>>2918162
>you don't speak dog.
It can't be that difficult, they don't exactly have a lot of words.
>>
>>2918026
Have you thought about it yourself? Their lack of lips, for instance? And that's just the most obvious problem.
>>
>>2918026
They have different vocal chords and their brain is also different. Their way to understand human speech is pretty different, too

>When you think about it, there's no reason why a dog would be unable to learn human speech, if you sat down and taught it.

I mean, if you take into consideration that dogs' don't overly communicate with 'speech' but body language, dogs' don't have much understanding of language and speech; but tone, and lastly dogs' rely heavily on human emotion when interacting with us and do not use all of the 'language interpretation' section of their brain even when interacting with other dogs.

Then you know, take into consideration dogs' do not process the correct vocal cords to make audible words, dialect, or 'language', and can only make up to 100 variations of sounds with not much ability to control pitch and volume. They have no evolutionary advancements in their mouths or tongues to help pronounce vowels, consonants, or tone. Nor do they possess the correct lips to help enunciate language.

You know what I think is cool? I trained my dogs some 20ish commands. Again, mostly tone and gesture based to get them to do what I want. But. They trained me how to communicate with them. My dogs also paws at dishes for refill or barks at the fridge (water dispensing fridge), whimpers at a door for a walk, presses on me for pets, tilts her head for a treat, can open basic doors and gates, bows and lowers for a toy out of their box, and my favourite is the 'one paw on your lap' because they want to be cuddled and petted but know enough to ask to enter my space.

there are more than two reasons why that wont work

I literally just heard a wolf say "Can't let you do that, Star Fox!"

But some people do teach their dog human speech
Some don’t even need to be taught
They can definitely learn to understand human language

Or, more likely, they are so intelligent that we are simply not capable of comprehending them at this time. Someday we shall uncover the mysteries of Long Johnson and Don Piano.

Lack of human lips. Dogs have lips, just not like ours where you can shape them.

Sometimes they go "PFFBBB" and their lips puff out though so there's that.

Teach your dog how to make art or logics or engineering. If he can some of these things then he doesn't even need to use human speech.

We tried teaching a dolphin human speech and it killed itself. Probably not a good idea.
>>
>>2932276
I looked into what you're talking about and the real reason he killed himself is because the experiment lost its funding and so she was not able to take care of him properly.

An actual funded experiment would probably turn out differently.

Animals literally cannot learn reflective human speech because it was an evolutionary trade-off for humans where they lost a significant amount of short-term memory capacity.

And what are yOU gonna do about it?

Why would you post a dachshund tho? They are easily one of the stupidest breeds of dog.
>>
>>2935101
Do you have a single fact to back that up?
>>
I'll tell you why you can't. Simple brains, vocal chord and mouth structure, different hearing, inability to read or understand gestures, communication largely based on body language... The list goes on....

>the experiment lost its funding and so she was not able to take care of him properly.
>An actual funded experiment would probably turn out differently.

I looked into it like you did. It's one of the saddest things I've ever heard.
After the funding went away, the experiment ended and he was transferred to a tank in isolation, and away from her. He was broken hearted and consciously decided to not breathe. Even an "actual funded experiment" will come to an end.
Dolphins in captivity can show signs of depression and die willingly, as their breathing isn't instintinctive and controlled unconsciously like ours.

Patty the Dolphin from the show flipper ended her own life as well.

impressive.

Are border collies the most intelligent of dogs? or have the largest memory?
>>
>>2939128
>one of the saddest things I've ever heard.
just want to clarify, because I didn't word this accurately:
It's not Peter's death in particular that saddens me as much as the fact that dolphins, as a species, do not only suffer depression, but choose to kill themselves.
The idea of that just makes me sick.
I wish humans would get their shit together already and fix things so that humans and all other living creatures don't have to suffer so needlessly.
>>
What the fuck?
>>
>>2918162
There is no biological basis for intelligence so clearly an animal could be taught to speak like a human.
>>
This Good Boy has some things to say.

why don't you learn to speak dog instead?
