cell tells us that trunks was the one who preset the time machine to go back 4 years (1 year before the frieza earth encounter). first of all why was trunks planning on going back to the past if he had defeated 17 and 18 in that timeline? second, why did he set the time to 1 year before the frieza encounter on earth? goku wasn't even on earth at that time.
This is wrong, he set it up himself because he needed 4 years to hibernate.
