zbrush retop to maya. This advice might go against a lot of people here but if you wanna be a character modeler just focus on doing character models. Dont worry so much about making textures look 4k or get too crazy about any other aspects. Thats what other jobs are for.

Guy I met from my school had his internship accepted and now works for Dreamworks by doing just that. He uses the basic zbrush polypaint but not much else.
Are you local to LA by any chance? Siggraphs coming up. Great opportunity to meet other artists and motivation.

Yeah, doesn't suit until I gave context. Originally, this was a fake title screen for a Star vs. video, where some epic final boss was about to take place, complete with HUD... Well, that idea was dropped when I watched the finale, and the action was lackluster (the only good part is Marco got himself impaled by a unicorn, and that's it).

I actually got this done in just 2 days. The rigging bit was easy, since I've imported this as an .SVG, which gives the advantage of it being a "curved surface object" so you could rig the nodes with ease.

>tfw my stuff is fairly "popular" in some circles (not trying to sound like an ass about it), but my most popular render is hardly all that impressive or my best.
I've done things that I feel is more impressive than this, but this is mainly what I'm known for. I've been branching out and playing around with different styles and shit, but between work and people coming to me for work, I don't have much time for my own stuff to experiment.
Least I've made a good bit of cash selling posters and stuff with it.

Thanks I guess. To be honest I don't really think it's all that great, at least in the sense of /3/ stuff. It's painfully easy to make. I like it (and still use it as my wallpaper), but I guess I've grown tired of it. I think it's just because that's the only thing people associate me with.

I think mainly I just got lucky and put it out at a time that was good for it. It was originally an ultrawide wallpaper, and there weren't many around so there was a demand, and the whole retro 80s thing was in full swing so that crowd got a hold of it. Though I don't really classify my art as 80s.
I'm glad that it's been successful and people like it at least. As an artist that makes me happy.

You know that it's not. No one that uses C4D ever makes their own models. They just download stuff other people make and dress it up to pretend they're hot shit.
They couldn't model anything to save their lives. Just look at how many slap bald, T-posing, makehuman models in their renders to seem deep.
