body suit and face mask are just geoshells that I drew textures for in photoshop. The hoodie is a reskinned dforce hoodie available in the daz store (I deleted all polygons belonging to the sweater part of it). Shoes are the ones that came with the "Toon boy outfit", recolored to match the bodysuit (though you can't tell because I didn't lit it very well).

is there ANY way to permanently subdivide a Daz character?
I know this was possible in earlier versions but I can't find it anymore, it only lets you set subdivision levels but I need that fucking mesh to be actually subdivided for higher detail morphs I want to do.

I found out something amazing. Maybe this will help someone else too.
Noticed how there's no way to instantly clear the whole scene from keyframes of all things in the scene? Even if you go through every item and delete the keys one by one, there's always some hidden shit left that flies around.

To solve this set total animation frames to 1 and save your project. Then reload it and bam - all keyframes are gone from the scene and you can do some fresh animation without any long fuckery to remove old keyframes.
It's kinda infuriating that there's no official way to simply remove all keyframes at once.

Also, Daz Studio is probably the worst documented software in existence. There was a time when they actually implemented features but then didn't bother to document them. Tons of empty or unfinished sites in their online documentation.

Surprisingly, it is difficult to not create a disgusting monstrosity when trying to make a sexy character. In fact it is ridiculously hard, and the more you know about Daz, the more difficult it is, I have found in practice.

We have some really good Uncanny Valley filters which can detect when something isn't right. All porn creators reach a point where they want to rise up the length of the legs, or maybe the height of the figure, or maybe the size of the breast, to create the perfect waifu. It's natural, trying to reach perfection.

Problem is, your 8'5 foot tall woman with HH breasts triggers the Uncanny Valley mechanisms something great. It doesn't look great, and the more you're trying to fix it the more disgusting it looks.

Surprisingly, the sexiest figures are the ones with small but important flaws, like too small breasts or height, scars, asymmetry, moles, etc.

only if you change the geometry. There are various options when importing a morph. You can export the obj with all 200+ morphs, make the fix then reimport but choose a specific option (that i forget atm). something like "inverse blah blah" and it will only apply the difference between the two rather than reapplying the 200+ shapes and the fix.

Victoria 8 requires Genesis 8. Genesis is usually the base figure for it's generation. Victoria is a popular morph/material that comes out each generation for the base. Michael is one for the guys.
You don't need anything but the starter content as a requirement for Victoria 8 (V8). However it's suggested to get the body/face morphs for a particular generation you are interested in working with.

I went back and followed the instructions step by step. It was stupid easy.
Then I thought there was still some deformation from autofit on the zipper but it appears to be how the creator made it. Default G8F(body) left, G3F default on the right.

but like been mentioned, the best way to do unique looking stuff is to learn how to do stuff outside of daz3d and then bring it in. for modeling, hexagon isn5 what anybody who knows their shit would use but it comes for free and is easy to use with daz becaude the bridge so it's a good place to start. learning what the iray settings do for the skin (visit the daz3d forums megathread for ideas) and learning to make your own/adjust textures in photoshop or whatever is also good.

It's the shaders. They make new models, textures and everything else, but the garbage shaders have barely changed since forever that's why every render looks the same. The glassy eyes, the dead skin, the half transparent hair, everything still looks like something that would be on the cover of a 3D magazine from 1998.

99% of the casual DAZfags won't bother exporting the model and use a different renderer, i mean that's the reason why they use DAZ in the first place, they want quick results and not good results.

Its small, but recognizable, ESPECIALLY when dealing with the representation of humans.
Our visual cortex is highly trained to recognize humans and a small feature like this can make or break an image.
Even the best artist using the best render engines in the industry can't easily fool our eyes.
Remember Tarkin from Rogue One? That one was close but still freaked me out. Rachel from Blade Runner 2049 was much better, so was Logan.

How does one convert a G3 prop to G8. This gun for instance. When I make no modifications and load it, its offset like this.

Pale skin is fine, that addon just seems to "bleach" everything. Destroys makeup and gives awful borders around brows. I'm sure tweaking would help but I've just started playing with translucency settings instead. May have went a bit overboard into WHY SO SERIOUS territory. Original material/skin on right.

I've also read that lighting can change the skin a lot too.

Made 7 MCM's for the eyebrows to allow for toonier facial expressions without the entire forehead getting super deformed. It wasn't all that hard and but I had been putting it off because I forgot how MCM's work... and 4.11 crashing a lot when going back and forth between it and Hexagon, for some reason. I'll soon actually be finished with this damn model. I think I'll just re-do the skin settings for something slightly more toony, like say halfway to the Asterix screenshot (>>661326) and maybe make sure the face is smooth enough (there's a shadow under the eyes that I don't know how I got there that I might have to straighten out)

Shit, those eyes look really good. Small tip though, adjust your SSS radius settings to something like (1.0, 0.35, 0.2) for skin. That causes SSS translucency to be tinted red, and you'll get those really red patches under bright light that simulate there being blood under the skin. Thanks! Yep, there is more work to do with the SSS. Currently, I'm just using one layer with the diffuse slightly tinted orange (a remnant of previous attempts), but the plan is to use at least another, reddish as you suggest. It's been a bit wonky so far in thinner parts though, such as the eyelids showing blue hues, so I'm trying to solve that.

Well, I heard it take full advantage of system memory you might have. Not only full use of graphics card memory, but when it runs out, it'll expand into computer ram. This is needed to render super complex scenes. That's one advantage.

I can't comment on it in the context of Daz, I picked it because I wanted a GPU renderer with good integration in Houdini and, between it and Octane, I saw Redshift as the better choice.

I believe Iray leans towards unbiased rendering, if so there's a good chance Redshift is faster, as it employs many tricks to render quickly even if it means a less physically accurate simulation of light. Visually, however, I'd say the result is good enough that the loss in accuracy doesn't matter much. But there's no plug-in to use Redshift directly in Daz, you have to go through another program. The choice of software to use with Redshift is ample, however -- Maya, 3ds, C4D, Houdini, and Katana. So if you can bear with moving assets from Daz into any of those and recreating the shaders and scene, you'll be golden.

Now that I think of it, Octane has a plug-in for Daz, so it may be a better choice than Redshift if going through other apps is too much of a hassle.

Also the differences between Redshift and lets say Arnold or Octane are so minimal, i can't visually recognize them. Biased or not does not matter, especially not if you're just rendering Daz models.

I'd like to properly learn how to mess with skin shaders and make my own skin texture but I'm honestly quite bad at judging what looks good/bad. I basically just steal other people's shit, tweak it and render it off. Is there any good jumping off point for properly understanding shaders etc?

It's kinda amazing what others can do with DAZ or blender (especially animations in cycles) though it's kinda depressing as well seeing people just pump out so much in such a short time

I'm in that same boat myself. I upgraded my system completely to hopefully get faster preview renders so I could see changes to lighting and shaders in nearly realtime.
Still pretty lost though, haven't been able to find good documentation for shaders like there is everywhere for 3 point lighting.

I originally was using a sandy bridge quad core i5 with 4GB 980 and 16GB system memory with some basic samsung 2.5 SSD's.
Upgraded to AMD Threadshitter 1950x, RTX 2080 TI FE, 32GB system memory and m.2 NVME SSD.
Pretty much a whole new build.
The biggest change for me was having 11gb of video memory for my scenes and the nvme m.2 speed vs standard ssd's are not a meme at all. Scenes/HDRI loaded much faster.

I've had that happen too. Try parenting the gun to all the different bones in the hand to see if that stops the gun flying away. If it doesn't you'll just have to manually repose the gun in each image.
